Geek Squad/Best Buy Reviews

Crashed Computer
I should have researched this site prior to calling Geek Squad. Paid for Remote Service. Tech. crashed my computer. Another remote tech. could not reboot computer. Told me to take computer to Best Buy/Geek Squad store. Store told me it would cost
$200 to get computer fixed and I would lose all information. Asked if there were any other options, was told I could buy a new computer. They could install my data from old computer to new computer. Since Geek Squad was last to "touch" my computer and they crashed it, I am looking for good faith customer service. Asking for the$79.99 PC Set-Up fee and $80.00 Data Transfer fee to be credited. It has been a run-around since Thursday June 30, 2011 with customer relations via phone. I will never again use Geek Squad, and will not recommend Geed Squad to anyone. Their Customer Service/Relations could care less about the problem.

Attempted to charge me for uneccesary repairs
When I got to work yesterday morning and fired up the Laptop, I got the dreaded blue screen. Not good. I then tried about 10 more times to shut down and restart. Still no luck.

I could have been patient and UPS's the laptop up to our IT people in the bay area. But I have ALL of my work on there and can't afford to be without a computer for a week or so.

So, I decided to go to Geek Squad near my house in Temecula. I have bought many items @ Best Buy over the years and have always received great service so I figured they would treat me right.

Oh, was I ever so wrong to make that assumption!!!

I had a bad feeling in my gut right when I walked up to the counter when Mr. "No eye contact", head down with no personality quickly told me $70 to diagnose it. To his credit he did on machine, wrote down error code, went to the back room and Googled it, and came back out and said it was most likely NOT a hard drive crash. WHEW! OK, I am thinking, this guy is probably legit. They then said they would run diagnostic and contact me on my cell in a little bit.

At the end of the day, and about 4 calls later (they never called me of course), I finally was told that they had run the diagnostic. The diagnosis? The Geek told me I had over 500 viruses and malware infecting my poor Dell. Hmmmmm? I immediately was suspicious. The laptop was running full speed until that morning. Furthermore, I am somewhat computer savvy - I have a top notch antivirus/spyware/firewall program installed that is monitored by an excellent IT company we contract with. So when I immediately questioned they guy, he stutters a little and says "well, some of the, were cookies and stuff like that". No no no, can't be, I have my settings set to auto remove all of that stuff upon log out each day.

So, I get home and figure, what the heak, let's start it and see what happens! And, low and behold, the damn thing boots right up. Did Geek Squad know that is was fixed, or maybe saw the error on the registry or wherever and repaired and then decided to soak me for another $230?

As I thought about more, I came to the logical and obvious conclusion, OF COURSE THEY KNEW. They would have to have restarted to the laptop after the diagnostic and they would have seen it was running fine, don't ya think? And if not, they are DORKS and NOT Geeks.

I am by far no computer Wiz, or in this case, a Geek. But I know enough to smell a rat here. It is just a shame they are trying to unethically make a few extra bucks under the Best Buy umbrella.

I am going to now really think long and hard before I ever go back to drop down my hard earned money at a Best Buy Store ever again.

tv repair
I purchased a tv and a 4 year extended warranty plan from Best Buy. In January '09 the bulb warning light came on indicating the bulb was about to go out. I called Best Buy to schedule an appointment. they sent out a Geek Squad tech. to my home a week later and he ordered the part and he said I would be called back with an appointment time. 2 weeks went by with no call. I called them to find out what the status of my replacement bulb was. They then told me the bulb was on backorder. I was told someone would call me back to sched. an appt. when it was in. I waited a week and no call. I then called again and they said the bulb was in and that they would call me back with an appt. Again no phone call. I called them the next day and was given the run around. finally after talking with a supervisor they scheduled an appointment for another 2 weeks. The tech. finally came out to my home to install the new bulb he then left. Immediately after the new bulb was installed there was an strange smell of burnt plastic. The picture was fading and the tv turned itself off. I immediately called the Geek Squad, I told them that my tv was working fine before he replaced the bulb. I was told the tech. could'nt get out to my home any sooner than the following week. I was upset because now I have a tv that does'nt work . I insisted that they squeeze me in sooner, I was told a supervisor would call me back and try to schedule me in sooner than next week. Nobody ever called. I called them back and had to settle for original appointment. When he came out he took just a quick look at the tv and ordered the replacement parts that were melted inside the tv. He never bothered to figure out why this had happend. He said he would have the parts shipped overnight and someone would call me to schedule an appt. to install the new parts. This appt. happened March 12th. I called the following Monday and was told the parts were in but I would have to wait another 2 weeks before they could send him out again. We were already a month and a half since original service call and 2 weeks with no tv. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she told me she could not schedule me in sooner but would have a supervisor from the scheduling dept. call me back the next day. Again, no call. I called them and asked to speak to another supervisor. He scheduled me in sooner for the repair. On March 18th the tech. came back to replace the melted parts and left. No sooner than he left the same problem occured. I immediately called Geek Squad and I asked for a supervisor because I was very upset the problem was still there and the tech never bothered to diagnose the cause of the problem. The supervisor said she would have someone else call me back and sched. me another appt. and again nobody called me back. I had to call them back and now the scheduled appointment is for April 7th! With NO gaurantee they will fix or even look into the cause of the problem. They only schedule appointments to come out and order new parts but will not pin point the problem. it seems like its just a big guessing game for them. meanwhile we have no tv. I called them numerous times because I can not wait any longer. They refuse to return my calls and they dont seem concerned at all. By April 7th, this will be five weeks with no tv and over 2 months since original service call. I WILL NEVER BUY FROM BEST BUY AGAIN!!! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVCE. if you do buy from them dont pay for warranty.

poor service and charges
I couldn"t use my PC and called the GS. They came out told me that they had to remove everything and they did, but after they finisished it did not work the way it did b/4. The bill was $300. I called them back and was told by this "tech" it would cost another $300 to fix it. I told him to leave! I called someone else and was told it was so screwed up that it couldn't be fixed and should have been told on the first call that I should buy a new PC. This I did for less than $500.

Horrible service/rude
Did a live chat with Geek Squad. I told them what I needed done on my computer. They gave the tech the wrong info. He said he didn't know how. He took off our antivirus, charged us $170.00 and left. I put a stop payment on the check. I tried calling the local store and then the corporate office. All were extremely rude. They sent it to a collection agency. I sent in my documentation showing I had to pay another computer tech to fix the original problem and then fix what the Geeks messed up. Over 2 years later and a 3rd collection agency, they are calling me again. NEVER USE GEEK SQUAD!
