Unrequested charges
On 11/18/2009, I could not get my Quicken software program to download the information from my Fifth Third bank account. I tried several times using either of 2 passwords. I finally called the Quicken telephone support number and somehow I got transferred to this Geeks By The Minute. I was connected to a Danielle Rogers and I explained what was not working. She asked me if she could access my computer. She said if we got disconnected, to call 877-783-2475, and tell whoever answered that we were working on issue I.D. #163128. When she accessed my computer, she said that my Avast firewall was blocking my program. This has never happened before nor on my previous laptop. She unblocked Quicken on Avast. She then asked if I do maintenance on my computer. I said that I had done defrag and disk cleanup recently. She told me that I should do disk cleanup every week. ( I discovered after the call that my computer does this every night if I leave it turned on, which I do ). She also told me how to defrag my computer from OS(C:). She also told me about Safe Scan. She said that my computer needed these things to be done and was it OK for her to do them so that I could do them in the future. ( I know that when I do them, it is a somewhat lengthy process, but I thought that maybe her way was different ). At some point, I got a message that I had 5 minutes remaining. Most of the time, she would be off the call, as I was waiting for a task to complete. When the 5 minutes were up, I got disconnected. I called back on the number she gave me and rather than being connected to a recording or some other person, I was connected back to Danielle. My wife got a phone call from VISA on her cell phone telling her about the charges that had just been charged. I asked Danielle how to challlenge them and she gave me the billing department phone number. More than once, I asked her about the charges during my call. She assured me that all I had to do was to call the number and to tell the the issue I.D. #. I tried this after the call and couldn't get any answer. I have no idea how I got transferred to her from within my Quicken program. I know these are lengthy processes when I do them. I don't think these are fair because she had discovered the problem within the first 5 minutes. When I had talked with VISA, they told me that even when I informed them that I contested the charges, I would have to submit a letter to them, which I did. I received notice from VISA this week that they could not do anything about the charges and that I would have to contact Geeks By The Minute. I have made about a dozen calls, leave my phone number and name, the issue I.D. #, and to please call. Eventually the phone rings telling me its a Private Caller. When I answer I get a dial tone. This evening, after this happened, I called back again. It did not go to a recording, but a live person told me to quit calling or they would block my number. She said they were not going to refute any of the charges. This was the first and only time a got a live person when I called. My name is Dwight Donmyer and my phone number is 727-868-6451. The total of the charges is $355.34.

overcharge w/o fixing problem
While trying to solve a computer problem for me, Geeks by the Minutes billed me for at least 20 minutes of time during which I was waiting for a computer process to be completed (downloading). I was charged for 1 hour and 10 minutes and the problem was not fixed. I wrongly assumed that I would not be charge for down-load time, also wrongly assumed that "Geeks" was a trademark name but apparently anyone who thinks they can fix a computer can call themselves a "geek." My telephone complaint was answered rudely. My attempt to cancel payment was denied. Beware!
