Received multiple emails from [email protected] and [email protected], purporting to be from a person who shared our last name (Bohan) and hometown in the “old country.” They sought additional information “to determine whether we are related.” One of the email addresses used has been identified here and elsewhere as being involved in Craigslist and PayPal scams. They had done their homework and attempted to demonstrate that they were genuine by sharing an extensive amount of “family” information, carefully presenting it to look authentic (e.g., referring to old addresses taken from envelopes to deceased relatives, etc.) All of the information they “shared, ” however, was in fact publicly available. Apparently a prelude for phishing for more compromising information from me or other family members….
