General Electric Reviews

All my appliances are breaking down
I bought my home 2yrs ago this month. My home came with a complete appliance package from general electric. Well as of now only 1 of the 6 appliances in my home are working correctly. The dishwasher does not work at all, the Fridge only works when you put it at an 8 or higher to keep it cool, the microwave buttons stopped working and then it completely shut down (doesn't even come on anymore), the washing machine stopped agitating and spinning (so it does not clean the clothes), and the dryer timer is broke so it just keeps drying til you open the door. Now these were brand new appliances when we moved in they have been used for 2 yrs. or less. And of course they are no longer covered under warranty. This should be illegal to sell such shotty appliances. This is just crazy! I would never recommend GE to anyone.

Washer not working properly
I purchased a washer and dryer of GE, The washer is a fully automatic front loader. Model GBVH5300K2WW, Serial Number of the machine HT200307T. The washer is not running the full cycle.
When you put for tough stains it pauses at least 3-4 times and I have to physically go to the machine and push the pause button to continue the cycle. It pauses at different time at different cycles. So I have to always keep looking whether the machine has paused. This is very BAD, for GE, if it is a fully automatic why the cycle pauses in the middle of the cycle?

Over the Range Microwave
Purchased over the Range Microwave just over 2 years ago from Best Buy. It stopped working properly 18 months after it's purchase. The only button that now is able to be pushed is the add 30 sec button. Obviously, once the 1 year warranty ran out, I didn't call to complain b/c I knew we had no warranty (it was 6 months after it ran out). But since the add 30 sec button was the only one that worked, I have used that over the last 8 months to re-heat food. We are now going to sell our condo and walaa...here you go potential buyers, or relatively new GE appliances aren't really working. I called GE...best they could do is a rebate on a new one or a discount on a repair tech. Really? Shouldn't one expect that the major appliance they buy last a good 10 years? You will give me a rebate of $120 on a new one (but I will still have to pay the other $120, plus tax, plus delivery, plus installation, etc? Why not just send me a new one for free (they can't cost you much more than that to make)? Ridiculous!

30" Slide In Gas Range
Watch where you purchase GE Appliances, as not to many areas in Maine for Repair People. Tried to deal with
GE about the stove purchased from Home Depot. Stove only 18 months old and oven stopped working. Home
Depot did not have a repair person. Contact GE who could not give me a name of one either. Had to find
one on my own. GE wanted me contact them so they could provided parts. Sears was the only company
that I could find. Sears did not go along with providing part numbers, so that I could purchase them
from GE. Sears would not give a repair date, without them purchasing the items needed for repair.
GE would not help with only a small amount for this item to be repaired. It has cost me $346.00 to
repair a 18 month old stove. Products are not a GOOD as they use to be.

So be careful Mainiers, when you purchase Appliances. Make sure there is a Repair Person in your
area. If not, you be given a wild ride...

GE could use some training of their personnel
On December 26 2007 I bought (on line) a 12 year 50 gallon electric water heater from Home Depot and included an unlimited warranty in the purchase. I paid $1071 with a credit card for the tank and installation. Home Depot assigned the installation to a national firm. They came to my home on 12/26 to install it. My electrical wiring did not have a proper cut-off switch so I had to have an electrician rewire my closet area before the tank could be finished. The next day the plumber came back to complete the job only to find that the tank was defective. The plumber had to wait on the phone for over four hours to get authorization from GE to obtain a replacement water tank, subjecting him the most rigorous testing to ascertain that the tank really was defective. The plumber went to Home Depot and secured a second tank. The final install was completed on January 8, 2008. We were without hot water for over two weeks. Now the newer tank has malfunctioned. I called GE who claimed that my tank was out of warranty so it wasn't their responsibility to repair it. GE recommended I take a circuit tester to see if the tank had defective elements. I explained I knew nothing about testing and that's why I hired the installment done in the first place. They denied liability! They said I should hire a contractor(sid) to check it out. I then called Home Depot's extended warranty department. They had no record I had purchased a tank or a warranty. Fortunately I kept all the documentation and credit card evidence and with the help of a VERY dedicated store manager at store Home Depot 3902 in Oklahoma City I was able to prove my purchase through her. By the way she was cut off her call after being on the phone for over 15 minutes! Finally I have evidence of my extended warranty and a plumber has been assigned to repair my water tank. GE could use some training of their personnel and so could Home Depot's Extended Warranty Department.

The whole thing is a scam
We used to have GE extended warranties for all our appliances. It used to be a good value. I even got a dead fridge replaced for shipping costs. Then, recently, I needed a repair, and found out I could no longer schedule it online, but had to call an 800 number and talk to someone not in this country. The next repair I had (OK, I confess, I will never buy another GE appliance, but I am keeping the ones I have till they die), the man in the other country (someplace where they speak Spanish) told me he could not find my contract, they would put a work order on it, and to call back in 48 hours. Well, I had paid for the warranty, I wanted the repair, my appliance was broken, but I couldn’t get any service. And, of course, they never called back. Eventually I got a supervisor, after days of calling. The supervisor said they had my warranty, but there were no providers in my area. I still naively thought I was with GE, and I knew there were many GE service people in my area -- I live in DC metro, so to tell me there are no providers in my area is beyond ridiculous. I got the “call back in 48 hours” routine from them, at which point I pressed a little harder, and found out that they were no longer GE, but another company entirely, who had decided to cut their costs and NOT use high quality technicians, but whatever cheap contract labor they could find. They promised to get back to me, but before they had called me back some 6 days later, I had gotten in touch with GE, got a GE technician out, who immediately fixed the appliance. Then I began the long, hard journey of trying to get a refund on all my extended warranties (I had 5). Although I had two months on 4 of them and 6 months on one of them, my eventual refund, after hours of phone calls and several letters and e-mails, was about $10.60. When I called, they told me that was because I had actually used the warranty services several times for service calls! GE tells me that when they sold their warranty services to Assurant, they assumed that Assurant would continue using their technicians. Well, like they say, to ass-ume makes an ass out of u and me. To make it even more flagrant, I continued to get warranty sales pitches from these people in the mail, claiming it was GE warranty protection, with GE service, that would give me peace of mind. There was no fine print telling me that this was NOT GE service. I have kept these notices and all my correspondence, but it only makes me angry. They took my money, and they cheated me. I am NEVER buying a GE appliance again, and I am NEVER buying warranty service because it can apparently be sold at the drop of a hat to people who are not in your area (let alone the USA), who have no clue about what is going on, who are paid to read from a script they really don’t understand. I live within 15 miles of the nation’s capital, millions of people around us, and these folks in some country hundreds of miles away tell me there are no service providers in my area and I need to wait 48 hours before they can find someone? And I get someone 5 minutes later on my own, paying real dollars? Give me a break. DO NOT TRUST GE WARRANTIES!!! The whole thing is a scam!!!

What a joke this company has become
When we built our home in 2000, I purchased built-in oven, gas cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, downdraft exhaust system. All were the GE Profile products. Subsequently, I also purchased a GE Profile Washing Machine.

What a mistake! All, with the exception of the downdraft, have been a huge disappointment and I will never purchase GE products for my home again. So far, I have replaced the microwave and had to do extensive and EXPENSIVE repairs on each of the other products, most recently replacing the timer on the washing machine when it was less than 4 years old. All of these repairs are costly and in a time when most Americans are more value conscious than ever before, it's a no-brainer to say that I will never buy GE again and will tell everyone I know the same. Also, GE stock... never. What a joke this company has become.

Left us without a working appliance
GE MONOGRAM SYSTEM. I purchased the entire monogram system, stove top, double oven with trivection, advantium, warmer, dishwasher and refrigerator. This all seemed a good idea, but is fastly turning into a horror story, GE DDOES NOT STAND BEHING THEIR PRODUCT NOT WORKMANSHIP. GE CUSTOMER SERVICE SPECIFICALLY THE MONOGRAM AREA NEED A FEW CLASSES IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE BOTTOM LINE IS... LEFT WITHOUT A WORKING APPLIANCE, PROMISED PARTS, NEVER RECEIVED AND HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I simply did not expect this type of service from General Electric Company. It's obvious this is not the same company, has it changed hands and unknown to the consumer???
