Unbelievable. This shop has done right for me before, so I thought they were OK. Apparently under new management, such as it is.
I rebuilt carburetor and replaced all ignition parts and air filter on 12 year old Craftsman 6.0 HP lawnmower, but would not start. Took mower to shop because obviously beyond my DIY abilities.
Shop took $25 deposit and said they would call me when ready. I called a few days later and they said they were waiting for an O-Ring and would be a couple days.
Shop called 3/18 or 19 and left msg they were ready with estimate. I called 3/23. They said it needs new carburetor because they rebuilt it twice and it "didn't take". Estimate was $140.
A new carburetor doesn't cost anywhere near that much, even with labor ($47 on ebay with shipping). I told them I would just come get it and forfeit $25 deposit.
3/26 I came to get mower and at first thought it wasn't my mower. They swapped the rope starter with one from a 5.0 HP lawnmower, the carburetor is still removed, and is obviously NOT my carburetor because it is filthy and obviously never cleaned or disassembled. There is no way they rebuilt that nasty thing twice, and installed old worn parts in place of new ones that I had previously replaced (such as primer plunger). The air filter they tried to give me back is an old dirty nasty one rather than my new and clean one. I said this is not my carburetor, not my air filter, not my starter. Rather than saying he didn't know what happened but he would find out and straighten it out, owner proceeded to argue with me that yes these are all my parts, he's been doing this for 35 years, and "Didn't you say you couldn't get it to work so you brought it to us?" What does that have to do with giving me back old and nasty parts instead of my new parts? If I took my car to a brake shop, I would expect them to be able to show me my worn brakes, and not try to pass off worn out parts from another car as mine and think I wouldn't notice or care?
Owner said he must talk to mechanic to find out what happened and to come down 3/28, which is a huge inconvenience for me.
I called 3/28 and female voice AGAIN insisted those old and dirty parts were mine, and said she would have owner call me when he gets in, and then hung up on me.
I just want MY mower back with MY parts. They're either incompetent beyond human comprehension, or trying to pull a fast one and sleaze off a bunch of crappy used parts on me because I won't let them rape my wallet on a new carburetor.
I just filed BBB complaint as well.
I just called again and asked to speak to owner, who is simply not returning my calls and has apparently instructed his staff to deny that he is ever there.
