have had nothing but bad experiances with the housebuilder George Wimpey. One of my greatest mistakes was having decided to purchase one of their properties not having had the opportunity to have take away and read the small print.
I knew about the charge about the £200 annual ground rent they charge which I reluctantly accepted. Please note my father pays a paltry £5 a year ground rent for his house and most of you will be paying a similar negligable amount. What I regreted was overlooking a Service Charge of just over £16.00 a month amounting to nearly £200. This is for a glorified parking area which they refer to a communal area. I had peaviously thought a Service Charge would have applied to flats but Wimpey have cunningly incorporated this charge into their new build houses (or at least some of them). What is even worse was the rise after the first year of about 48% to nearly £24. If a similar monetory rise continues then the payout to Wimpey householders is likely to be well over a £1000. (or if a similar percentage rise is applied this will be many £1000's). They did not even pass me a electronic key fob to open the gates to this parking area and I have to pay £60 to obtain this yet I'm paying a monthly fee to access this area (glorified car park).
You might think you will be saving lots of money by buying a new build house. i.e. special offers like free appliances and a reduction in repairs for some years . Think again. Wimpey have got a cash cow lined up in hidden costs which will amount to £1000's over the years. My recommendation is please do not buy from George Wimpey you will regret it.
