The first time I used getaroom to book a hotel room was also my final. LONG LIST OF DISQUALIFIERS FOR REBATES & SPECIAL OFFERS!
I was searching the internet and my entertainment book for a room for a large event in Galveston, TX. I found the getaroom rebate offer in the entertainment guide. I followed the instructions in the book and called the number listed to book a room for 11/05/2011. The rebate page/form in the book says you have to "Call this number to reserve…… rebate doesn’t apply to reservations online…. Reservations made through our other call centers are ineligible….." So I called the number from the book, told them I wanted to book a room in Galveston. The rep said “I will transfer you to someone that handles that area”. I’m thinking their reps have designated areas. Getaroom offered me a rate that was exactly the same as if I had booked online through any other travel website. However, there was the $25 rebate that no other site offered. So I made the reservation over the phone through getaroom.
I mailed the rebate form with all required information and documents approximately one week after my hotel stay. On 5/5/2011 I called getaroom because I had not received my rebate and I received no response to my email inquiry. I talked to a rep who said she would escalate the message to customer care and they would call me back. I received a voice mail from Connie with Customer Care saying that I booked through Travelocity and needed to call them and they would be able to honor my rebate. I called Travelocity and they couldn't help. I called GetaRoom Customer Care once again. Connie was unable to take my call so I spoke with the rep who originally answered. I was told that my booking didn’t qualify because when I was transferred to “someone who handles that area”, I was transferred to another call center. I explained to this woman that I called the getaroom call center and they made no mention of the fact that they were transferring me to another call center. The rep then proceeded to read to me a long list of disqualifiers that did not apply to me. I stayed at a Wyndam (Super 8) hotel in Galveston. She quoted to me a disqualifier regarding Marriott hotels in Reno. WHY?
Instead of reading me a list of cities and states that getaroom services and instead of reading to me a list of specific hotel chains that getaroom doesn’t service, and instead of arguing with me, why didn’t the customer care rep admit that the person who took my original call should have told me they were transferring me to another company’s call center and that my reservation would not be connected to getaroom? How was I to know that “someone who handles that area” was an entirely different company?
So even though I followed instructions, called the correct number, did everything according to instructions, and I still have the reservation confirmation that says “thank you for booking through getaroom…” . I will not receive the $25 rebate that conned me into booking through getaroom! As I mentioned earlier, I would not have booked through get a room if it hadn’t been for the Rebate. I had the same rate for the same hotel in front of me on my monitor when I booked over the phone with getaroom. Getaroom was going to give me $25 back so I chose that to be the better offer. They lured me in with the offer, took my money, and then told me to go to hell!
I will do everything within my power to prevent anyone else from becoming a victim of this scam! Let us not forget the power of information technology!
