Dear Sir
Myself and my wife travelled to Male in the Maldives from London Gatwick on 16th
January 2010 via Dubai arriving on the morning of 17th January. On
arriving in Male one of our two bags did not arrive. Whilst still
waiting by the conveyor belt where the luggage was coming out I was
approached by a member of staff of the ariport and asked if I was Mr
Thomas. I confirmed I was and was advised that one of our two bags had
not made in onto the plane at Dubai.
I was advised to report the missing bag to the staff in the baggage
office at Male, which I did, and that it would be on the 1.00pm flight
due into Male and would then be sent on to me.
I checked at reception in Biyadoo later that day to see if it had
arrived. It had not, and did not actually arrive until late Tuesday
evening. As soon as it did we realised that lock was missing. Also it
was apparent that the contents of the case had been removed and
replaced.
We simply put all our belongings in two cases so actually both had
clothes in them. However we did put all our toiletries in the smaller
case, which was the one delayed, as they were heavier. This meant that
we had to buy a toothbrushes and paste, shampoo etc in Biyadoo when we
arrived. Also
in the lost case was a digital camera belonging to my wife.
We advised our travel rep from Kuoni at the time but there was little he
could do. We do have the report he made at the time.
I do feel we should be compensated by Emirates for the cost of the
toiletries we had to buy which amounted to USD 62.00 as well as for a replacement
camera which I estimate will cost £350.00.
Had both bags been put on the plane to Male I would be submitting this claim.
Yours faithfully
Gideon Thomas
