May 2009. Today I checked my bank checking acct. online and found in my pending transactions a charge for $39.97 from a company named GJI Media in Illinois. They charged my bank debit/credit card.
The phone number listed for them in this charge is 1-866-931-4184.
I immediately called the # and reached "Customer Service." I waited less than a minute before I was transferred to a live representative. He was cordial and quick; however when I explained that I didn't know what GJI Media was or what their business products were, he offered no answer.
He looked up my card# and found the $39.97 charge, said it was authorized to a Chris Baker using the email address
[email protected].
The rep never even asked for my name--he took my word for it that I had never heard of this person or email address, that I am based in the states and not the UK.
He then very quickly canceled the charge and told me it would take approx. 7-10 business days for the charge to show as refunded in my bank account.
My bank card never leaves ME. So this has all been very confusing. I have not purchased anything online using my card in awhile. I will now be checking my bank statements online each day for the next 2 weeks and the 2 weeks after that.
BTW--Chris Baker is an extremely common name (I didn't even need to google it to know that). When I googled Chris Baker in the UK, there are plenty of them there, too. When I google the alleged email address used, there are no matches.
Keep your eyes on your bank accounts my peeps. And please post here should you be scammed by GJI and/or "Chris Baker."
