I entered into a 2 year contract with Urban Active at the Crocker Park facility. The membership was set to expire in Sept 2007 and I did not want to renew because I have been 21 miles away from a facility for over a year after in Aug 2008 (more on that later). When I called in Sept to insure the membership was indeed set to expire and no more charges were to be incured, I was informed that they were going to bill for Sept and that I needed to provide 'written' notice of the expiration. I fail to see why you need to provide written notice of a cancellation at the full term expiration of a contract and they provided no written warning/reminder.
I travelled to the Legacy Village facilty early in the morning and talked to a young gentleman and explained the situation. He had me fill out a form and said 'he would take care of it'. There was no mention of needing to do anything else. Sure enough, three months later, they continue to bill me. When I called Crocker Park, the woman explained to me they have no record of any such transaction and that they would mail a form to me and that I also needed to pay a 10.00 admin fee (the first I ever heard of that). The woman then calls me back and tells me they no longer mail anything and that she will email it to me. When I called to provide my email address, the woman tells me that I need to return it to the corp office as 'registered' mail. Everytime I talk to someone, it is a different story and they fail to give you a straight answer. The woman then tells me she is NOT going to email the form to me if I continue to 'talk to her' in an angry/upset fashion. This place is beyond belief. I would never deal with this place again.
Finally, when I moved last year, I called Corporate and told them I moved and would like to cancel my membership. When they asked how far I was away I was honest and said 22 miles. The woman basically snickered and said there was nothing they can do...the contract stated a 25 mile distance from the nearest faciltiy.
