Customer Service
I am current on my mortgage and pay at least 2-3 weeks in advance every month. Last January (1/2010) I was laid off and immediately contacted GMAC Mortgage to let them know of my hardship. They asked me if I could borrow money from family! I managed to stay afloat for a little while but slowly became more and more behind. I contacted GMAC again asking about perhaps a load remodification or -something- to handle my hardship until I could get back on my feet. I turned in the small book that was the application and waited to hear back. I called them after 5 days and was told it took 7-10. After day 7 I called every day until finally 2 weeks later I was informed my application was declined because I did not have enough income. Seriously? I was pretty much being set up for forclosure except that I landed a new job. I contacted their company and set up a repayment plan. I asked them "Will this plan make it so that as of August 1st I am current 100%?" I was told 'Yes'. I was also informed that they would continue to report I was delinquent to the credit bureaus AND I would continue to assess late charges. I was fine with this so long as by August I was current again and had everything back on strait.

I was paying nearly double my old mortgage payment to catch back up. I was eating PB&J every day for nearly 6 months straight and come August I was ready to celebrate. I make my final "huge" payment and come around for the September bill it's still high. I call them up and was informed that it was because all the "Late fees" that were assessed during my repayment plan were then applied to my next bill. This was the first I was informed that would be the case. Outraged and angry there's nothing I could do, GMAC owns my soul.

Here it is February, 2011. I have been current on my mortgage since September. I applied every extra penny I had to make sure I was not only on-time with my mortgage but I flat out pay early. This month I get a bill that has a $147 in misc "other" charges with no explination. I call them up and was informed that whenever you pay over 45 days late they tack on an Inspection Charge.
Why weren't these charges assessed when I was actually late? Why did they wait another YEAR before assessing these charges? It sounds like a major scam to me.

I am at the point where I have to call GMAC every month to dispute or get further explination of one thing or another. I rarely have a statement that is plain and simple "P&I, Escrow, Your Amount Due: BLAH". There's always some miscellaneous fee that they usually take off after I point it out and demand an explination.

This is the worst organization I have ever had the displeasure of working with. I just want to pay my damn mortgage without having to call them every single month. As soon as I am able to refinance I am going to do so and make sure I go through a bank that will not sell my mortgage to GMAC. I think it should be illegal to sell your mortgage without at least the homeowner's consent!

Screwed me over
This was a very UNETHICAL company. These guys will suck all the money out of you. They may seem cheap, but you get what you pay for. So I struck a car and I was liable. I've been a perfect driver for nearly 5 years when I started driving, no tickets, no accidents. NOTHING. One day i finally got in a accident, oh no problem...my family been dishing out 1000's of dollars to GMAC i'm sure they got me covered. Nope, my policy was canceled a few days before the accident because we owed them four dollars. Four freaking dollars because we changed address. NO mail, no call, no nothing about it. We also pay every 6 months, and I haven't gotten a bill from them since so this was a very UGLY SUPRISE. Ultimately I got 0% coverage. Thanks a lot GMAC your company really cares. They canceled the policy, then a few days later they had the guts to ask for almost 900 dollars to renew the policy, the claims rep then had the guts to ask if I wanted to pay the money we owed and continue doing business with them even though I felt like I was screwed over and that they were absolutely not going to pay for my accident in any way. This is a very dirty business and I hope they burn. Please STAY AWAY from GMAC, sometimes paying a little more for a better company is worth it when trouble comes along. Thanks to GMAC i'm going to lose about 4000 dollars or mor.

Purchase of Home Contract.
I am asking you to look into the practice of your company for the sale and purchase of a home. I saw a home that was listed and for sale by GMAC in the Altamonte Springs, Seminole County area of Central Florida. The property address at 633 Iris Street, Altamonte springs, Florida; Parcel Number: 15-21-29-516-0000-0260. The owner according to court records is GMAC Bank, 3476 Stateview Blvd, Ft. Mills, S.C. 29715.
The listing agent on record is Tina Allman, EXIT Real Estate Results, 365 Wekiva Springs Rd. Longwood, Fl. 407-788-6474. MLS # 05003067.
On November 18th, 2010, I received an email from the seller stating that "Congratulations- Your offer at 633 Iris Street has been accepted for the asking price. Attached was the contract addendum for signature and a cheque for $2000.00 issued to ALBERTELLI Law in escrow.
All the original forms were filled out and the cheque # 1242 given to Sylvester Harding, my Real Estate Broker, Sierra Realty Group, [email protected], 407-979-4473; on November 19, who made sure it was turn in to the Law Office the same day.
Now 11/30/2010, we receive an email stating that we did not get the sale because it was now turn down for a cash offer. That is really unfair and unethical. This was a Contract signed by myself and my wife for this property. We are working professionals.
We could not understand why it was taking so long with the return contract until we got the word from the seller Tina Allman from GMAC. This is not good practice, very poor and unethical and unprofessional. Is this the way they do business, I hope no one else get involved like this. Pathetic.
We had our plan for this home as ours. All our friend and family was getting the news for the new year holiday schedule after the closing.
Could you please look into it and get back to me. Thanks for the time.

Misplacing of payments and errors in payments
We have a mortgage with GMAC since 2006. Many instances have occurred where GMAC has either failed to process our extra principal correctly (putting it to the PIT instead of principal) or delaying or losing our extra principal payment. On top of that, there have been times when the statement/invoice for the upcoming month's payment either does not get to us, or gets to us around the 3rd week of the month before payment. I have called them innumerable times and they tend to put the blame/onus on the Postal System when delays have occurred. For instance, we sent an extra principal payment on the 2nd of November 2010; as of the 12th of November, they still haven't transacted my check. Also, the customer service section at GMAC said they sent their statment for December out on the 2nd of November (as of the 12th of Nov, we still have not received it). All other companies that we have transactions with (i.e., AT&T, Suntrust Mortgage, Dishnetwork) either receive our payments or get their invoices/statements within a range of 3-4 business days. Unfortunately, GMAC, time and again, seemingly fumble their statement processing and recording transactions. If I could, I would seek out someone in the constituency within this fair land of ours that would get GMAC to be held more responsible and to clean up their act. In another instance - 17 December 2009, we sent two checks to them without the statement (one of times they were quite late to send out a statement - one for the PIT and one for extra principal to the address given by the customer service rep. What happened was they processed the PIT payment but mislaid the extra principal check. It caused us to go our financial institution for a "stop payment" on the latter check. Almost miraculously (beign facetious here) GMAC "found?" the other check two days later.

Quick observations: GMAC either doesn't have the staffing they need in Waterloo to run such a large business, their is intentionality in what they do (don't want to provide us with the opportunity to pay off our mortgage), or the personnel at GMAC are not interested in helping the customer in regards to their mortgage (yes, I have read the complaints addressed by other customers about GMAC so I see I am not in this boat alone.

One name out there: GMAC CEO Steve Abreu at PO Box 462, Waterloo, IA 50704-4622. If he is the mastermind, address your concerns to him.

Insensitivity to customers
I have had a mortgage with GMAC for 8 years. I have never missed or been late with my monthly payments. I am recently divorced and the house was signed over to me. I contacted GMAC 2 weeks ago to negotiate a lower interest rate. While talking to the GMAC representative I became aware of a lien on my property which caused my credit score to drop. The lien was due to unpaid taxes incurred by my ex-husband. I told the representative that I needed to rectify the lien before I could refinance. Although he knew I was distressed about the lien, he wanted me to proceed with the refinance. I told him that I needed to satisfy the lien before I could commit to refinancing. He again attempted to convince me to refinance saying that I had three months to clear up the lien. I explained that my priority was to satisfy the lien. I immediately paid my ex-husbands past taxes and the lien has now been satisfied and my credit score increased by over 100 points.

The same representative called me this past Monday. My guess is that he pulled another credit report on me. When I returned his call he said, "let me tell you what I can do for you". When I explained that I was going to wait a few months to refinance, he said "I have someone on the other line and will call you right back". He never returned my call because evidently his priority is not to help the customer but to push customers into refinancing even when they are not ready. Isn't this one of the reasons our country is now in an economic crisis?

Due to the insensitivity of the GMAC representative, I will refinance with another mortgage company in a few months.

mortgage practices
I have been trying to deal with GMAC for two eyars -- hopelessly. Does anyone know of class action lawsuits in Texas. I am ready to join one.

The company pretty much told me that they do not care and it is my problem
I bought a 2007 Saturn Ion 2. With in the first three months of having it it was in the shop 9 times for the same thing. The car turned out to be a lemon because they were unable to fix the car and they did not know what was going on with the car. I filed for lemon law and after several times of talking to the corporation they choose to replace my car. They do not make the Ion any more and refuse to put me in another car which is about the same as the car I purchased. I finally picked out a new car which the sticker price was 3000$ more than what I had left on my financing and they are now trying to charge me an extra $8000 to put me in that car. I have had to pay for rental cars for 4 months now and have been in the same rental for the past 4 weeks. GMAC will not fix the problem nor will they even attempt to do anything. The company pretty much told me that they do not care and it is my problem.
