$10 month to month scam
Last week, late November 2009, a flyer was put on my car windshield that advertised a ten dollar a month, month to month membership. It also said that there was no commitment, no gimmicks, no kidding. It also was handwritten in that the last day the special was available was December 1, 2009. The only other information on the flyer was the locations and phone numbers to where this special was being offered. I called one of the locations and asked a few questions and was satisfied that this was something I wanted to do. So on November 30, yesterday, I went in to sign up. After about an hour of my time being wasted, I was told that in order to get the advertised special, it would cost me over two hundred dollars in fees. Nowhere on the flyer was there any indication of any other fees or special stipulations. And the last gyms I was a member of never charged me up front fees so I did not know I was supposed to ask about them as I was later told by an employee who answered the phone there when I called to complain today. Had it been indicated on the flyer that there would be applicable fees and stipulations I never would have gone up there and wasted my time and gas. But as it is, I feel that my time was stolen from me.

Bad people
I was a member of Gold Gym Scottsdale for a year, then gave up my membership because my company offered a cheaper corporate membership with LA fitness. After I cancelled my Golds Gym membership I discovered there was a Golds closer to my work and they offered yoga and zumba classes at 630, which was perfect because I work until 6pm. So, I went in to the Golds and asked them if I could try out the classes to see if I wanted to be a member again, as I did not have any interest in using the gym - only going to those two classes. The guy at the gym said that I should just renew my membership at my old rate (20 a month) and if I didn't like the classes then cancel, as he COULD ONLY GET ME MY OLD RATE BACK THAT DAY, if I came back the next day I wouldn't get that rate. Because 20 dollars is pretty cheap, I wanted to make sure I got that rate if I choose to go back. So I agreed. Well. HE LIED!!! The classes were HORRIBLE, no one except me showed up to the yoga class, and the zumba class was interrupted by cheerleading practice and only lasted 20 min. So, it was not worth me being a member again. In addition, he charged me 25 a month - not the 20 a month he promised. And when I tried to cancel he said I was stuck in a 12 month contract... which WAS NOT what he said when I first went in. I AM VERY VERY VERY UPSET and will tell everyone I know to NEVER EVER go to golds gym. HORRIBLE customer service and dirty sales job... BOO ON YOU!!

Unauthorised billing
I cancelled my gym membership in July 2009 since I was medically unfit to go to a gym and was in rehab. I submitted my medical certificate to the gym personally and was given a letter for the same from the gym on an 18 month relief from the gym. I am getting calls from the debt collectors threatening calls for the amount of time that I have been releived from the gym that I owe them the money. This is illegal as I personally went to the gym to give my certificate of being unfit and they are still threatening me for the amount of money that I owe them. I can attach the proof on the next posting

Dishonest employees & poor customer service
My contract finally ends with Golds in one week (yeah!) I went to a gym to swim and asked them to cancel my membership (since I had heard that you automatically default to continue it.) The employee was persistent that I had to renew my contract even though I politely refused multiple times. I asked if I could do month to month afterward and he said this was impossible and that I had to have a contract. I said I didn't want a contract and wouldn't be renewing. As I was leaving the desk to work out he informed me that my bill was delinquent. I had pre-paid for the two years up front and had not received any bills in two years and asked what I was delinquent on. He said there was a $15 maintenance fee on my account. He said that if I did not pay right then or renew my contract I was not allowed to use the facilities. I was in my gym clothes with no CC or anything and was pretty annoyed at this point so I left.
I called another location and was informed by the employee that you cannot cancel your membership (even at the end of a contract) in a gym or over the phone and that I had to call the corporate offices to do so. He also informed me that because it wasn't 30 days prior to the end of my contract that I had defaulted to a month to month plan and would be billed for August if I canceled or not. He admitted that Gold's is the sneakiest company he has ever worked for. He also let me know that I could have opted for a month to month membership at this point and that I was more than allowed to use the gym even without paying the $15 fee I had never heard of.
Also, do not waste time with the trainers. They are great at txting, working biceps, and showing up late or not showing up to work without canceling their appts. Gold's Gym trainers are the biggest waste of money I have ever experienced, and I purchase a lot of stupid things.
I will have nothing to do with this company in the future aside from warning people to stay away.

cant cancel, sucky gym
I completely regretted getting a pass here ever. Right after i got it, i realized how bad the gyms are. They are big, but the equipment sucks! The numbers are rubbed off the weights because they are so old and you can't tell how much the weights are. Also, lots of machines are just plain broken. All this, even when they sneak charges from you of $30/year to upkeep the gym. What is this money for?? They are obviously not keeping the gym in good condition.
So, they gym sucks bad and they sneak charges at you. But the worst part is, when my membership was about to run out, I told the people at the front desk at least 5 times that i did not want to renew, I wanted to cancel. But of course, the next month, when i hadn't been going to the gym because it was cancelled, I got charged! I went in irate, and the b**** that helped me cancelled my pass, but she said i wouldn't be able to work out for the next month even though i had just paid for it.

Scam
I joined this Gym 3 months ago. It is right in the shopping center of my work so it was easy and convenient for me to go. I went to go there about a month ago and they were just closed. The doors were locked and the place as empty. I tried to call the number on my receipt that I received when I signed up but when I tried the phone was shut down. I called another Golds gym 10 miles from my house and 15 miles from my work and they told me that I was able to come there but had to remain a member of the gym for 1 year. I later talked to a few different people in the shopping center and they said they signed up 2 weeks before this happened with no warning. This is totally bad bussiness ethic and I think that if you know you are going out of bussiness why are you trying to still sign people up for a false location.

How to Quit Golds Gym
People,
I was a troubled member of golds gym. I have seen 1000's of consumer being troubled by their hidden contract. They dont mention this at point of sale. Then when you want to quit, then they say you will be billed for entire year. Also, if you want to cancel you have to submit either a proof of moving to a city which has no GG location within 25 miles of your address. That is ridiculous!!
Or you have to provide a proof of military or hospital, after which also there is no guarantee that they will stop billing.
WHAT I DID:
Tell them that you are moving to a city where there is no corporate location. E.g Denver, CO.
then provide some proof: Change of address form of USPS, or any bank statement or BILL sent to that address. Then you can change your address back. They do terminate. You can fool those bastards by this trick only. Negotiating wont work. hope this helps.

fraudulant charges
I signed up for a free trial for golds gym. I canceled the membership within the time period because my husband was leaving for iraq and I was going back to WI. They kept taking money out of my account and I actually had to cancel my creidit card so they coudn't steal more money from me. Everytime I would call them I would either gat a ansewing machine or they would transfer me from one person to another where no one knew anything.
