WARNING! If you're looking for free money from the government online, READ EVERYTHING before you hand over your debit card info.

I signed up for a ONE DOLLAR free trial with GOVERNMENT FUNDED GRANTS online and ended up with accounts with a total of three companies. Normally, when you sign up for things online, you have a page of subscription options that you can check. I always uncheck everything because I usually just want the one service, not services from all of the company's affiliates. GOVERNMENT FUNDED GRANTS got slick and added their membership and extra subscriptions for their affiliates in the TERMS AND CONDITIONS section of the sign-up. When you agree to the terms, which many people don't read thoroughly, you agree to sign up for three monthly charges from GOVERNMENT FUNDED GRANTS, ID SECURITY and FRAUD PROTECTION. These charges add up to almost $40 a month. When you are looking for government grants, you may not be willing to shell out an extra $40 a month without realizing it. I, for one, do NOT have this kind of extra cash laying around.

If you notice that your bank account is being charged by these companies, call the numbers that are attached to your online transaction records. They are mostly 866 numbers that appear on your statements like this 8663471687, without hyphens. Unfortunately, since you agreed to the terms, you can't have any of these charges reversed. However, you can stop them immediately once you call.

ALSO, write down the cancellation confirmation numbers that they give you. You may need them in the future. I continued to get charged two months after my cancellation by one of the companies. They tried to fight me on it, but I gave them a confirmation number and demanded to speak to a supervisor (YOU MUST DO THIS, OR YOU WILL NOT GET ANY RECOURSE). Fortunately I got my money back for the last two months, but I am still horrified that these kinds of business practices are going on.

That was a a bit long-winded, but my point is READ EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU HAND OVER YOUR MONEY! There are people out there trying to take advantage of you!

They are suppose to send you a book for $29.95. Never have received the book, but each month the are still taking out of my account $29.95, $1.00, $4.95 for What? Asked the bank to stop payments but you have to pay them a large amount just to do it. What shall I do?
