Rip off
Purchased green dot refill card but green dot is refusing to release the $300 in funds. The transaction is being "investigated". I have sales receipt with activation number, refill card with activation code, faxes, record of phone calls, etc. Green dot says they do not have my money..

Lack of customer service
My husband bought a MoneyPak and put $100 on it to load onto his son's Green Dot card who resides in another state. When he tried to scratch off the back to reveal the number, several of the numbers in the middle disintegrated! He has been using the same scratch off process for close to a year. He called the service number listed and was put on hold for over 1/2 hour ("your wait time is approximately two minutes"). When a clerk finally answered, he explained his problem, gave the information available and was told that he would "hear back but if you don't hear anything after 24 hours, call back". Now we need to buy another MoneyPak while these funds remain in limbo. Green Dot will become a victim of its own success if they don't find a way to provide a more responsive support system. 24 hours is not an acceptable time frame. We are withholding our recommendation to two other potential users pending the final outcome of this situation.

Bad service!!
I have put 50 on my card and they put my money on the wrong card and after I called them to fix it they only credited me back 20 dollars and they also take money out of your card almost every day for their "monthly" charge. They should tell you it's a daily charge! Green dot has screwed us over and all they do is take your money!

direct deposit
I recently signed up for direct deposit for my Veterans Administration check so that I did not have to get out and do so much walking to cash my check etc...The VA did not put the last 3 digits of my account number on the direct deposit so Green dot kicked the wire back. I contacted them before the 2nd deposit went in and explained to them what had happened and that my social security number was on the check and that they could verify that against my account since that is the way they verify my identity over the phone and they refused said that they could not do that. My sister has worked for a bank for over 25 years anytime a direct deposit is rejected it kicks out a sheet telling them that something was wrong with the account so I know that they can verify the information by using my social especially when the account number is only missing 3 digits I explained this to the first person I spoke with and of course she either didn't understand what I was saying or just didn't care but I asked to speak to a supervisor I assume they thought I was going to hang up because they left me on hold for twenty minutes when she came back on the line and said her supervior was on a call with another person but she had spoken to her and she agreed there was nothing they could do. I again told her I wanted to speak to someone in charge and after another 15 minutes of waiting I finally got a Rommel on the phone probably some pee on who said the same exact thing that she had just said, I said to him so what you are telling me is that you are refusing to assist a Disabled American Veteran to ensure that my money is put on my card when I am telling you that it is coming in and exactly how much it is going to be for and hes exact words were I'm sorry there is nothing I can do...These companies need to hire more Americans and less of those people who do not understand English where is the compassion I also told him that this was going to put me in a serious bind since it takes at least 3 weeks for the VA to return the funds but he did not care...So for anyone thinking of using these people just know they are not compassionate at all and will not assist you in any way...So as soon as this is over I will be removing my money and they can take the card and shove it where the sun don't shine...

SCAM
Ordered my tax refund on a Green Dot Card, and never received it. The dollar amount was $1400+
This company straight up stole my money.
I've called several times, the first 2 times I called i was assured that the card was on it's way. 20 Days later I called again. This time they promised to fedex it to me for a fee of $20 after arguing in hindi with the agent on the phone, i was able to get them to ship it for free. 3 day delivery time frame.
6 days later I call and they still haven't even shipped the card.
This is just a crappy company with a website and a private label prepaid card that cant even figure out how to use the mail.
IRS, FTC, and BBB complaints are next, for both turbotax and green dot.
Horrible company, don't use them... BTW keep searching, there are thousands of complaints.

Can't use card
Has Anyone had this problem with a green dot card? I bought a card and tried to use it at a redbox kiosk. The reader will not read the card. I looked at the back and where there is normally a black strip on a credit or debit card is a gold strip. It can't be used at any card reader when making a purchase. I called customer suuport and of course got India. Needless to say, it's hard to get them to understand normal english. After explaining all this to them, they said I damaged my card. I said no, it was this way when I got it. After arguing/explaining for quite awhile, they said they would send me a new card. The new card is exactly the same. No black strip. I was going to try email to explain the problem but they just referred me back to the 1-800 number. Anyone heard of anything like this before?

RIP OFF REPORT
My husband and I received a GIFT card for our wedding gift from people at work. It was purchased at a local Walgreens Store. The pre paid visa/ gift card was IMPOSSIBLE to activate. I called the number on the card, and the automated system kept telling me "I do not understand what you are saying". It would not activate the card without me releasing a great deal of personal information. When I tried to supply it, I kept getting "I do not understand what you are saying". After many failed attempts to activate the card, my husband called them. He had the same problem! He called back again and had to FUDGE the system in order to get a customer service representative. The CSR told him they needed his social to activate the card, and tried to get him sent a re-loadable card (WE DIDN'T WANT THIS, we just freaking wanted to use our gift card dammit). To make a long story short, the company makes it impossible to activate the card, the automated system plays dumb and hangs up even when you follow the commands correctly, and the company is a SCAM. The rely on people not being able to activate their cards, clearly, that is how they make a great deal of money. Between confusing customers and charging RIDICULOUS fees every MONTH (even when you haven't used the card) and the user fees, this is a complete RIP OFF and I URGE everyone to get refunds and not deal with this company. Do not give them any of your business. What a despicable way to rip people off during hard economic times. Additionally, if you make the mistake of throwing away the plastic package it comes in, you may not be able to activate your card at all. Be careful opening the card, as there are numbers they require you to read off to them in order to activate the card. This number was ripped by opening the card. Once again, another way they can deny you YOUR OWN money!
I hope this company gets shut down. I am also writing to all companies that carry and sell green dot cards.
I HOPE THIS COMPANY GETS SHUT DOWN PRONTO!

Hassles
Green Dot Visa, I wanted to purchase a prepaid card for my use to apply cash to so that I don't have let my wife know what's in the wallet, so that it doesn't walk off (husbands you know what I am talking about). I purchased the card from a large chain store and went through the process of activation, with my SSN (didn't like that, should have know), then they tell me this a temporary card, WHAT? No store wanted to touch it, don't use it on-line, it took a few days to get the store to verify the card and it never did. So I canceled the order and was told if the VERY LARGE company faxed them something they would not accept it. And even if the money came back to the account (MY CASH) they could not release the funds for 11 DAYS. So now I don't have the equipment I need and I don't have access to my three hundred dollars as well. They said they will send me a check with a full refund once the eleven days has pasted and I call back to cancel the card. This is not a BANK card, this is a way of holding money so people forget about it so that they can charge there 6 dollars a month. Give a friend cash and order that way or just apply at a bank. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. I felt this other company I ordered products from was messing around, not the case, IT WAS THE GREEN DOT CARD THROWING UP RED FLAGS. I am contacting the major stores that carry this product and letting them know of the troubles I am having, I doubt anything will come of it, but at least you know, DON'T DO IT, TAKE IT BACK.
