Greyhound Bus Lines Reviews

lost luggage, poor customer service, harassment
I was treated with prejudice and man handled by a security guard, without provocation. Drivers were all rude and condescending, bossy and disrespectful, not at all helpful. Complaints department has not been helpful in resolving my complaints or finding my luggage they lost in Amaillo, TX. Greyhound requires that customers be in charge of their luggage, yet in Amarillo, TX, I was shoved into the station and denied acess to my luggage for transfer. Literally shoved and yelled at. Of course Amarillo was the last place I saw my luggage. This issue has not been resolved after months of my compliance with their requests. I have received nothing but a run-around from them. And a rude one at that! Greyhound is by far the worst travel service in our nation. What they get away with is numerous violations of the law and civil rights as well as the worst possible customer care I have ever experienced. In hindsight, I should have pressed charges against the security guard who shoved my elderly face against the side of the bus, with his arm against my neck and forced me to dump my pockets out on the ground. I have sent 2 letters to greyhound, hand written complaints, one was sent back to me in a greyhound stationary envelope with no explanation or response. Greyhound lost my original baggage claim ticket when I sent in my claim form. To date they are claiming they neither received my claim ticket, my claim form, nor my letters. I will be filing a small claims suit against them, and I will not ever reccommend their service to anyone, nor use their service personally again. Upon finally getting a service representative from their corporate office on the phone, (214-849-8000) I was put off for another 7-14 days for them to resolve my complaint. I will not wait any longer, my suit will be filed in 3 days. I have had a file# from greyhound since April 10th, 2011. How does one get a file# from the baggage claim dept. if they never received my paperwok, as they claim? Nothing but an endless run-around! NO Greyhound should be their motto!

Very Poor!!
It is now 3;37 in the morning my elderly mother in-law is stranded on a bus from Philadelphia to Indianpolis. She has been waithing for at least 2 hours for another bus to arrive. One bus already picked up half the passengers. She doesn't know where she is or when she will be arriving. All phone lines are closed to Greyhound NO COMMUNICATION until 7;00 in the morning, not to mention her bus was already 45 minutes late departing!!! Very UPSET and Worried!!! NEVER USE GREYHOUND!!!

Uncleaniness
I travelled on Greyhound to State College, Pennsylvania and back. The ride up to State College we were on a bus that the driver stated the engine light had come on. The driver got off the bus and said he had to check to see if any fluids were leaking. They were not so he continued to drive eventhough the engine light was on. Coming home it was disgusting. The Greyhound bus was filthy. I actually took pictures of how dirty the seats were as well as the toilet. The toilet had so much debris that it was not able to be used so we had a 5 1/2 ride with no restroom. How was this bus allowed to come out of the depot as dirty as it was? I will never ride with Greyhound again due to this uncleanliness.

Unbelievable Horrific Experience
On Tuesday, November 16, 2010, I went to the Memphis Greyhound Bus Station on Union Avenue to wait for the 10 p.m. bus to Dallas, TX. I had traveled Greyhound quite frequently before from this station and although service has never been great, it has also never been as awful as what happened to me that night. First of all, the station was freeing cold. And the station smelled. The Memphis, TN greyhound station is one of the very few with open door restrooms and the cleanup person is always off of work. The place smelled awful and I have filed a complaint with Greyhound before about this. They have a restaurant on the inside of the station and the people sit there and eat while the smell of feces and urine is overpowering.

It was also freezing inside this station as it was outside. It is always like this. If it is freezing outside, it is freezing inside. If it is hot outside, it is hot inside. So I went up to a man behind the counter at the information desk. I asked him if he could adjust the heat since it was so many women with very small children in there and it was so cold. He looked at me and said that the manager had gone home for the evening and there was no way he could adjust the heat.

I continued to wait for about 2 hours until my bus arrived (once again it was over an hour late and terribly off schedule). When the bus arrived I took my place in line and waited. As we were waiting for the doors to open, the two security guards wearing loud, green shirts that said ASAP Staffing came up and brought two tables. They immediately begin yelling at people to place their bags on the table. When I placed my bags on the table, the woman security guard immediately opened up my bag and started to roughly go through all of my belongings, pulling many of them out right on the table in front of others in line. I had underwear and all types of personal private things in the bag and I felt this was inappropriate the way in which she did this. However, I said nothing.

Then she yelled that she would need to see my purse. I placed my purse on the table and she began rummaging all through it and then she pulled out my prescription medicine and yelled "You will need to show me your license or you won't be taking this with you". I was shocked . It was my prescription medicine. Why would I need to show my license for my own medicine. However, I pulled out my license and showed it to her. This is when the guy standing beside me commented how he felt the way they were treating us and our belongings was somewhat innappropriate and I turned and looked at him and stated "Well, I can understand why Greyhound checks the baggage, especially with this being Memphis with such a high crime rate" and that's when all hell broke loose.

The security guard suddenly looked at me and yelled "What did you say"! I told him that I said I understood why Greyhound would check the baggage, especially in Memphis. I stated I had traveled through several greyhound bus stations and had never seen such a rough check like the one that was being done in Memphis. He then shouted "YOU MUST NOT WANT TO CATCH YOUR BUS BECAUSE YOU HAVE A BIG MOUTH". This comment caught me off guard and I was confused. I further tried to clarify my statement and at this point he yelled to me to "GET OUT OF LINE.. NOW!!".

I stepped out of line and asked to speak with a supervisor. At this point he turned his back on me and ignored me. I then walked over to the information counter and asked the gentleman behind the counter if he was a supervisor. He said yes. I then explained to him what had occurred and advised him that according to the supervisor I was in danger of missing my bus. He then looked at me and stated "You don't know when to "shut up" do you. I then stated I didn't know what was wrong with what I had said. He then said the manager was gone and I would have to "apologize" to the security guard for saying "Memphis had a crime problem".

There were other greyhound personnel standing around and they thought the entire situation was so funny. They kept saying "Just shut up" "Be quiet" "don't say anything". However, I had not said anything wrong. It seemed like a terribly overblown power trip. Then they said, "Go...Run and catch the security guard and apologize for saying Memphis has a crime problem". When I approached the security guard, he continued to turn his back on me. Finally, as no one could tell me what to do, I gathered my belongings and went and took my place back in line.

As soon as I took my place back in line, the female security guard walked over to me and yelled, literally screamed, "GET OUT OF LINE.. NOW!!! YOU AIN'T GOING NOWHERE UNTIL DARREL? SAYS YOU CAN GO". YOU MAY HAVE TO WAIT ON THE NEXT BUS"!!! Once more I stepped out of line.

At this point, I called the 1.800 number and begged the representative to let me talk to her manager. A manager named Maria was placed on the phone and I explained the entire situation to her.

After I had explained the situation to her, she stated that it was against company policy for these temporary staffing security guards to prohibit me from catching my bus especially when I was not carrying anything illegal or doing anything wrong. She advised me that only the bus driver could tell me not to ride and to speak with him. He was outside the building and I advised her that every time I tried to go towards the door one of the security guards would run up acting aggressive and yelling and screaming. As these security guards were carrying guns, I was afraid. So she advised I call the police. At this point, I walked over to the customer service counter again and advised the man who had previously stated he was an information officer of what the supervisor on the phone had stated and he looked at me with the female security guard laughing right beside him and said "I don't care, that's between you and God"... Between me and God?

Finally, some gentlemen in the front of the line who had been watching the entire spectacle told me to get back in line. I told them I was afraid. They both stated they would get my bags for me and stand in front and behind me and if the security guards tried anything they would have to go through them both. These men were complete strangers and I am grateful for their actions. The male security guard happened to overhear their statements and turned and looked at me and stated "You can go ahead and ride". He knew he had been wrong all along.

When I made it back to Dallas, I spent half the day on Wednesday trying in vain to reach someone at the Memphis station. No one ever picked up. I also spoke to several different greyhound bus personnel at the 214 number and they were more interested in finding out who I was and keeping a record of the person filing the complaint than what had actually occurred. They seemed to simply not care.

Why is Greyhound allowing its customers to be mistreated in this manner. Why is Greyhound so oblivious to the Memphis TN station who has even made the news recently for their lack of customer service. It was a news story not long ago about several people who were delayed over for about two days there and the people there would not even offer these folks a courtesy cup of coffee. Here in Dallas, They give out courtesy meal tickets for those individuals who are exceptionally delayed because a driver called off, bad weather, etc.

Why is Greyhound looking the other way when so many of its passengers get so mistreated especially by the Memphis TN location. Don't you guys think its time for new management?

Is it because Memphis is a city with a 78% Black population that Greyhound simply lets it have its way? Is it because the primary people who put up with Greyhound are poor and usually minorities with no other way to travel?

Well, guess what Greyhound. There is a company called Turimex that runs many of your same routes and for the trip to Memphis I paid you $165.00 round trip for, they only charge $72.00 round trip. Yep. You heard right. Their round trip ticket is less than your one way.

And I think I will take them next time.

However, For those passengers who don't know of Turimex or other competing bus lines, please address the continued problems with your Memphis TN location. Don't look the other way because the people are poor and black. Blacks deserve good customer service too. Ironically, the "blacks" in Memphis don't know that. They should be informed.

lost baggage
I recently took a Grey hound bus on Thurs. evening the Nov.14th, departing out of Wichita Falls Texas. I personally helped the driver load my 2 bags on to the bus. One being a suitcase containing all my clothes, personal hygiene items, cancer medication, and processor I use to compose music with. The second bag was a Stanley tool box on wheels which held over 3 thousand dollars worth of my work tools.
We stopped to change buses in Amarillo, at which time I went to assure my bags would be taken off my bus and placed on my new bus. Workers who were loading and unloading told me I was in a restricted area and rudely told me to go inside the station and assured me my bags were loaded on my new bus.
We then arrived in Phoenix where we were to grab our bags and put them on our new bus which was headed to my final destination which was Yuma, AZ. My bags were NOT on the bus! I was told that they would be in Yuma when I arrived that evening. Upon arrival, they were not there!
The counter person told me that they were on the way and would be in today Sat. the 14th at 1 PM, I went down to the station at 1 pm and of course they were not there. I was told "hey, maybe try back at 9 tonight" and was not offered any help or a solution.
Since these bags contained my work tools I have so far lost a whole day of wages, and life saving medication which I cannot replace till Monday since it is the weekend and the doctors office is not open.
Grey hound has only pushed me away when asked about their negligence and have only told me false lies, to please me. This company does not care for the needs of their passengers, still right now I continue to loose wages and still have not been offered a solution.

lost luggage, treated badly, left stranded and lied to
besides the two day cancelation, the being treated like shit and yelled at by greyhound employies, the lost my luggage, i went to grab my and was yelled at and told to leave it alone and because i listend i now dont have my luggage which contained eveything i had left to my name including important things. I cant believe that this company is a major company or that it has not been shut down yet. My wife herself had a bad experience of watching a disabled person being treated like shit and ignored as he sat in his own fecies...SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH THIS COMPANY!

get you ass in gear!
Hey, Greyhound:

Please, please, please give a shit about your customers. The last time I took the bus, you lost my luggage for the nth time (and by nth, i do mean nth), and it seems that, for every time you lose my luggage, your level of courtesy goes down by 50%. The last time I went down to the Coast, I reported a missing bag, and this little twerp who looked-- and spoke-- just like Chip Coffey treated me as though it was my fault my bag was missing, and that i would be on my own for dealing with the "inconvenience" that subsequently occurred. I know i am not alone with this, because every time I have ended up trying to find my luggage, there have been a couple of other disgruntled riders, and all seem to have been treated with the same amount of disrespect and apathy that i had been. With the few exceptions of a few wonderful and helpful diamonds, the rest of the greyhound staff members that i have dealt with were completely disrespectful. As a student, I feel that it is unconscionable to waste a what could be a sizable amount of my tuition to be treated like a waste of time, a waste of space, or a waste of breath.

What we--and grehound-- need in B.C. is a competitor bus line to prevent Greyhound from getting to cocky, sitting back on their bloated laurels, and watching us spend money on the only option there is. If i were ever to come into money, I would start my own bus line. It would be called "Awesome & Efficient Transport", and we would do the best we could to be everything that Greyhound is not.

Disturbing Conditions of Buses and Stations
On July 27, 2009 I embarked on a Greyhound bus ride from San Jose, CA to Chicago, IL. I've been traveling on Greyhound since I was a teenager and I have always enjoyed this method of transportation. However, I enjoyed little on this particular (and last) trip via 'the hound.'

While the drivers were as friendly and professional usual (and now have snappy new uniforms), the buses were in poor condition -- posted instructions WRITTEN IN MARKER INK, gum and old food stuck in between the windows and seats, bus bathrooms without sinks and often without tissue. Also, the commodes are large enough for a toddler to fall into! The bus stations were unbelievable. Something that you might find in a fourth world country: filthy floors, garbage stewn about, bathrooms strewn with feces and paper towels and unknown liquids on the unwashed floors. Again, sometimes no toilet paper at all. JUST AWFUL. And, I felt, DANGEROUS. I can easily imagine an outbreak of swine flu starting in almost any Greyhound station. That's a strong statement, but until Greyhound gets its act together, I would advise people to take a plane or train.

incorrect ans., and terrible customer service
I arranged flight and bus travel to coincide with one another...it took me a lot of time and effort! I wished to have etickets, but could not. (Was not made clear, at the time of payment) I called a supposed Greyhound Canada number and found that the RUDE person on the other end was where else...The Carribean! She told to call the Canada #, and I told her that I was NOT expecting to speak to a person from soooo far away, whom has NO clue about my querie. I called every number possible, and spoke to at least 10 different people. I have ONLY received two consistent answers about my issue up to this point. Greyhound Canada hires out work, and does not make sure their employees have the proper knowledge to assist customers with correct information, nor POLITE manners. The lady from Missouri was polite, as was the one from New York, and the Vancouver employee. No way to connect directly with the Canad Headquarters without calling long distance!??! It is as if this is a 'mickey mouse' outfit...which it is not. I am very frustrated, as I better be able to PICK up my tickets in Vancouver, even though I am leaving by bus from Toronto. I can ONLY trust today's info from a call?!?? Thanks for letting me vent. :)

Ticket nonrefund
I started on 6/3/09 to do computer bus ticket and gave all info and did not get a confirmation #. After two trys I called the bus line operator and told her (Ms Williams) my problem. She said I had to call in for a ticket and get a confirmation number and customer ID# and then call her back and she will check to make sure no other ticket had been purchased and to also change the price to the $98.oo amount that was listed on the computer 6/3/09. I was unable to get a operator until June 9, 2009 and at that time I was told that the ticket that had been made for me was unrefundable. I told her that I had asked for the refundable one as I did not know If this was ok with my sister ( She had to pick me up at the bus station). When I wanted to change the destination place from Huntington, WV to Lexington, Ky. the customer service said the ticket was unrefundable and she will cancel and I will have to pay for another ticket. I told her I was not going to cancel this one and not receive any refund and then turn around and purchase a ticket for the 16th of June instead of the 17 of June (1st ticket purchased) and not receive any money from the 1st one. I am posting this to let people know that the best way to purchase a ticket is to go to the bus station and do it yourself. There is much to be desired for the customer service or should I say NON customer service at Greyhound Bus Lines.
