It was getting close to the time to turn my leased VW Jetta. (which I absolutely loved!!) Gurley Leep had contacted me and suggested that I come in and possibly take part in the sign and drive event that was going on with the VWs. I researched the Tiguan and decided I would like to pursue that vehicle since I had such a good experience with the Jetta, and I also needed a bigger vehicle. I went in (2 months before my lease was up) to talk to someone about leasing a VW Tiguan. I told Chris Evans what I was looking for, which was: Black exterior, sunroof and possibly all wheel drive. I also explained to him that I have a budget that I need to stick to. He explained to me that getting all wheel drive on the Tiguan would make my payments sky rocket. So I said to eliminate the four wheel drive option.
During the next few hours, he kept walking away from me, across the building and talking to other people in a separate room. (I spent most of my visit at Gurley Leep sitting by myself with no explanation of what people were doing)He came back multiple times checking to see if I could make a down payment, or if I could make higher monthly payments. Then he started talking about options and what I needed, WITHOUT mentioning that a sunroof would be too expensive for me. In fact, he never mentioned that I would not be getting a sunroof. We finally agreed on a payment with me putting money down and paying a higher payment than I had budgeted for. But I figured it was worth it because I am getting the options that I requested.
So, 4 hours later, (again with most of it sitting by myself-wondering what is taking so long) they tell me that they have to take my Jetta that night and give me a loaner vehicle until my new Tiguan arrives. They also had me sign for my new Tiguan, before I ever saw the vehicle. When my new Tiguan arrived just a few days before Christmas, I took my brother in law with me to pick it up. The vehicle is very nice-but there is no sunroof. He took us to a desk where another person told us that I could not get a vehicle with a sunroof unless I wanted to pay extra for it. I was so frustrated and awe struck that I wanted to forget the whole thing-since they did not give me what was agreed on. They would not let me have my Jetta back, and they would not let me out of the new lease with the Tiguan. Basically I am stuck with a vehicle that I did not want to begin with. They told me I could go and buy a different car, but I would then have TWO car payments. They would not let me out of a lease that THEY screwed up!!
It is a horrible feeling to have someone basically look you in the face and not care because they already have your signature. I left the dealership in tears. I had two choices: I could either walk home, or take the vehicle they gave me. I had no choice but to drive home. It was supposed to be a great day, but it ended up being a horrible one. I will never again do business with Gurley Leep or recommend them to anyone.
