My husband is in construction and one of his friends recommended us to a tax preparer that works for H and R block on durango at the rhodes ranch shoping center. My husband's friend told him that you give the prepare all your receipts and they do all the calculations and advise you on what you should do to prepare yourself for next years tax. Well, we went there with all our information. I mean everything because I kept every single receipt we had. I just didn't know what was tax deductible so I kept everything in order, we always used a friend to do our taxes before and we depended on that friend so much that we never really new much about taxes. This year we decided to use H and R block to see if they could help us more by letting us know what is really deductible and what we should do to maximize our returns. My husband also worked in another state and had information there too so I wasn't sure how to do our taxes, so we decided to give H and R block a try.

Well, let me tell you that H and R block is a total scam, first that lady really didn't do anything for us, she told us to calculate everything ourselves and then give her the numbers, and the worst part is she didn't tell us anything about taxes. We had some medical expenses that we wanted to know if it was deductible and she couldn't tell us if it was or not. We had so many questions and all she could tell us was that we had to do our own calculations and all she does is enter it in. Huh, she charged us $340.00 and then told me to learn from her and become a tax preparer. FOr $140.00 I could learn from her, wow the nerve of her. She told me that maybe next year I wouldn't have to pay and that I could do it all on my own. So I went home and went on to turbo tax for the federal tax and entered in all the numbers I calculated myelf, and guess what??? Yah, I got the same return for FREE!!! Yes, H and R block is a scam. DOn't go to them. Seriously turbo tax is free!!! Let just say that I may have lost some money in this but I learned a very valuable lesson, NEVER go to that H and R block AGAIN!

i did my taxes january 3 i never recieved my state refund and all h&r block gives me is a number saying we have recieved your application and its bieng processed and i dont think that is right h&r block is scaming everybody never use them i paid 400 and never got it

For Christmas I took out a advance from h and r. Due to the economy there were a lot of people getting a loan. You had the choice of making monthly
payments to pay the money back, or you can pay it in full. I decided to mmake 40 dollar monthly payments. To my suprise when I filed my taxes they automatically took the loan out of my refund plus 350 preparers fee and left me with hardly anything!! 350 fee? !! I can see 100 at the most. They are cleaning up. But God is gna fix the problem. Greed is what lead this country into recession and H and R will not prosper doing that. Good Luck Hand R block!!!

I too have been screwed by the tax professionals at H & R Block.
I have used H&R Block for many years, in Maryland, and I have always been happy with their performance. I have recently moved to Charlotte, NC and I guess the standards down south are sub-par. My 'tax professional' entered my home mortgage interest as interest income. I am not an accountant and I do not pretend to be one but last night I looked over my tax paperwork prepared by H & R Block and I noticed this and like 5 other mistakes. I went back to H & R Block and they corrected their mistake and apologized BUT that dose not change that I now have to wait over 2 months for $2000.00 that I should have received in 8 to 15 business days. I don't know how well off you are but I don't like my money earning interest for someone else when it should be in my account. They could have waived their $247.00 fee. As a mater of fact they would not even refund the cost of preparing the 'Schedule B' that was not needed on my return. They claimed it was only a few bucks and I should not worry about it. It goes without saying I will never use H & R Block again and I will try to save anyone else from making that same mistake.
I could not make a mistake that big in my line of work without repercussions.

My wife is from Montana and when she moved here in Iowa the second year we took our taxes to H and R Block. My wife divorce papers said that her x claim the boy and she claims the girl. We told the person at H and R Block that and he said we couldn't claim her because she wasn't with us for that long in 2005. He mentioned they have to live with you so many months. In 2006 we figured we could claim both children so we did. They lived with their mother more that year. The x filed and his came back because both claim the son. Now he is threatening my wife and says if we don't amend he will sue. We will amend. I found out now the divorce papers come first.
