Advertised 'plenty of Factory Warranty left', but this warranty had expired 6 months ago = false statement
Hallum Motors Inc., Marion, AR is an EBay Power Seller with 318 feedbacks, 99.7 % positive. Hallum Motors listed a Mercedes SL 500 on EBay in Sept. 2006. The seller explicitly referred to his 99.7 % positive feedback score.
I bought the Mercedes via ‘buy it now’, paid and picked up the car 2 days later.
The car appears to be OK, except for 1 issue, which I unfortunately found out AFTER leaving positive feedback:
The advertised Factory Warranty (advertised as ‘plenty of Factory Warranty left’) had expired 6 months ago.
This Factory Warranty was a major factor in buying THIS car and not another one.
Each and every attempt of mine to get either a 3rd party warranty paid by the seller or a discount from the seller failed. Emails and calls remained fruitless. Hallum Motors made a false statement in their listing and did not provide any compensation. Needless to say that I’m absolutely displeased with this company.
Lesson learned:
1. Do not unconditionally trust an EBay seller – not even with a 100% positive feedback score.
2. Wait at least 2 weeks before leaving feedback
3. I’ll never ever again buy a used car on EBay
4. I’ll never again buy anything on EBay exceeding $500 – period.
