Bad service
I have an Emerald debit card with H&R Block and on Monday 12-15-2008 I started to send money through Western Union, online but STOPPED the transaction BEFORE it went through. Western Union took $227.00 from my debit card, and it was in their validation dept. This transaction never went through though. I called Western Union, they said the transaction was indeed canceled, but said they needed to fax a document to H&R block stating this. H&R block is now refusing to release MY money back to me until the end of the month. I have called multiple people at H&R block, I have emailed them, and they REFUSE to help!
My electric service is going to be turned off if I don't make a payment to them TODAY! I can't however because H&R block won't release MY money. H&R block IS aware that this transaction with Western Union, is dead in the water, my money is just in limbo now! I have a 3 month old baby here and $9.00 to my name because they refuse to release my funds. I found a lot of other people online who have had the exact same experience with this company.
PLEASE HELP!

tax error
I was notified by the IRS that H&R BLOCK, the company that did my taxes, made a significant error on my 2006 tax return. due to the H&R BLOCK error, i ended up owing $12, 900 more to to the IRS including penalties. The person that did my taxes forgot to include income from a real estate partnership. granted, under the peace of mind program i expect to receive the full $5, 000 reimbursement from H&R BLOCK plus payment for interest and penalties, this still leaves me owing $3, 900 to the IRS. also i don't know how much i might end up owing in state taxes. I feel that H&R BLOCK was negligent in figuring my taxes out and made a blatant and ovious error. i was wondering if i should receive funds to cover my full liability to the IRS from them or who i can complain to.

Very costly miscalculation on 2006 tax return
We used the services of H&R Block, Wentzville (falling under the St Charles, MO office) for our 2006 tax return. We purchased their Peace of Mind guarantee at the time. We were audited by the IRS for the tax return and it was revealed that H&R Block made substantial errors in the return totaling over $13, 840 which we were informed we now owed. When we filed in 2006 H&R we originally refunded by federal and state (California) authorizes over $6, 300. So we now had to return not only the $6, 300+ we had been refunded but also an additional $7, 000+. We needed to pay the IRS $9, 712 - and we are told to expect, due to the errors, that the states of CA and MO will claim from us another additional $1, 900 when they are finished assessing the new filing. H&R Block admitted the very significant mistake (and in actual fact, in the process of determining the new, correct amount owed, discovered another basic but substantial error in their calculations and methods - while this resulted in less owed, it still underlines the fact that they made two very large errors). H&R Block honored the Peace of Mind guarantee by paying us (June 12, 2008) a check for $7, 330.47. This included their standard guarantee for penalty and interest ($2, 300, 47) plus the maximum allowed under the guarantee of $5, 000. In short, we still needed to pay $9, 712. H&R Block legal department has written to us (Regina Akers, Senior Paralegal) to inform us that they will not consider additional payments above and beyond what their Peace of Mind guarantee promises. Leter dated July 18, 2008. We believe this is unacceptable. Never in our wildest imagination, and I gather from discussions I have had with H&R Block representatives, that such substantials errors should ever be made by a professional tax preparer.
Your Desired Resolution:
We want to appeal H&R Block to make an exception to their Peace of Mind guarantee rule and pay for the difference of $9, 712 that we are now out of pocket. All discussions with regional management has met with only referral to the legal department who have answered as stated above. In addition we want them to pay for the money will need to pay back to the states of CA and MO in due course (approx. $1, 900)

Never again
This is my story. I had my tax refund direct deposited onto my Emerald card. I got the rapid refund loan. This disqualified me from getting my stimulus direct deposited. The last 2 digits of my SSN are 98. This means I am one of the last to receive a paper check in the mail.
I called H&R Block customer service (which is a joke by the way) and asked them this: "Since I don't have another bank and I have my payroll directly deposited onto this card, where can I cash my check when I receive it in the mail?" They had NO CLUE, and they didn't care.
I send them questions about other things in emails and every single!!! time, they send me the same generic response. Please CALL our customer service. So I asked them this: "What the he!! Good is using the emails when this is your same response EVERY time?" They had NO CLUE. Also, they charge you $2.50 to call customer service.
The people that answer the phones there have to look up the answer every time for even the simple questions. They are underpaid so I am assuming, not educated. The reason I know this is because one of them actually told me she got her electric shut off!!
Adding salt to my wounds was being declined at Wal-Mart to cash the check because when they ran it through their telechek machine, it was coming up system error. The guy at Wal-Mart said it can't be a telechek error, because I always get a receipt with a fail reason code and a phone number for people to call. There was nothing. Over and over again. They couldn't figure it out and they said there was no way to override. Well, considering I signed the f-ing thing in front of them, as is their rule, I said well, now what do I do? They didn't have a clue. I said I will call telechek and maybe I had a mark on there from a long time ago. Turns out, I did. From May of 2003. I said that is over 5 years old. They said it stays on there for 7 years. I said what can I do to take care of it? She said I can pay telechek over the phone with a credit or debit card. I did not know that telechek is now a DEBT COLLECTOR too!!! This was a matter of $51 and a service charge of $25 of course. Well, go figure, since I had a check for $900, I spent my last 89.99 online for a software upgrade before I knew I would be declined by Wal-Mart.
Here's my opinion about telechek. Isn't that service there to warn companies about bad checks? Obviously, the US Treasury should not even be scanned by a check system. I know this because I asked telechek, "How can telechek have anything to say about this?" They said take it to a place that does not use telechek. This response, in combination with a lack of an error code, leads me to believe I am right. I will be complaining about them too.
On top of the wonderful day I was having, I finally went home (disappointed and ashamed) and got locked out of my place! When I took 1 of my 3 dogs outside, one of the other dogs jumped up and hit the deadbolt! I had to crawl through a window. I work full time and try to pay ALL of my bills. Why do I feel like such a loser right now? I even went to college and now I have GINORMOUS DEBT!
Well, I'm done complaining for now. I will NOT be filing my taxes at H&R Block EVER EVER EVER again. I have been using them for 15 years.
Wish me luck, for tomorrow I will try my luck at cashing Uncle Sam's piece of paper once again!

Rip off
H&R emerald card # when called to inquire about economic relief refund stated that the IRS would be sending a check. 6 weeks later I called the IRS and was told the money had been deposited in my bank account (H&R Emerald card). I called H&R Block # again and recording still stated refund was coming from the IRS in the form of a check. I was finally able to get a hold of an H&R Block rep in a 3rd world country and was told they were not aware of the recording??? Come on! They have used my money for over 6 weeks because of their fraudulent message.

Do not use if military! No rebate for us!
My husband was deployed last year so for us to qualify for the stimulus rebate the non taxable combat pay must be on the 1040. Well HR block didn't do that. So when we thought we'd get come extra money...we didn't. Non-taxable combat counts towards income for the rebate. So after sitting on hold for hours with the IRS, I found out I needed it amended the 1040X. Then we could get the rebate as a credit next year!
So I go to HR Block to get it done. This hag tells me it won't do any good. She calls the IRS herself, which has a min. of 1 hour hold time. She has me hold the phone waiting for someone to pick up. She filled out the form then took the phone from me and hung it up! I sat there for 15 mins holding her phone for her for nothing. Now I have to wait a year because HR Block didn't put a number on my return!
I've heard from others including an IRS employee that we should still get the rebate. Why the *** can't people just do their job and actually know what the *** is going on. When you pay for a service you expect to get what you pay for.
Do not use HR Block. These people have no idea what they are doing!!

messed up our taxes
H&R Block really messed up our taxes this year...3 times in a row to be exact and now my husband and I are uncertain if we will receive our refund or our stimulus checks. We started out on H&R blocks tax website and submitted our taxes. We printed out our copy which said "married filing jointly" but somehow the information sent to the IRS said "married filing separately". We had a printed copy stating we were due a refund yet the IRS had a copy stating my husband owed money because the of the mysterious "filing separately". Nobody cared that we had proof in the form of our printed copies. We contacted the IRS and they told us what we needed to do and the amendment that we needed to file. We called H&R block who "fixed" our taxes for free and argued with us that they could get us our money on time without filing the amendment. I argued that I wanted to do what the IRS had told me but the manager refused to listen claiming she knew what was best when it came to matters of taxes. Sure enough the IRS kicked out H&R's "fix". So they called us in yet again, printed out the same paperwork that had been rejected and told us it had to be mailed in...they still refused to complete the amendment that I demanded, and they smiled pushed us out the door and said "Let us know how everything works out and don't forget to make an appointment for next year".
How's it working out?! The IRS claims that they now have 3 claims for our taxes(all filed by H&R Block), it will take 90 days to delete one claim out and another 90 to delete the second claim out and then finally another 90 days to process the actual claim because they now have to audit my husband and I for suspicious tax behavior. My husband got laid off this year, I started nursing school...my father has loaned us some money but we aren't doing so well and could really use our hard earned taxes from last year but unless the IRS can speed up the process we won't get our taxes back until January of 2009! Now we've discovered there is a hold on our stimulus/incentive check. Thanks H&R Block you have totally ruined our year, I now face having to drop out of college until next year because my scholarship doesn't cover full tuition, and you have caused me more stress and dismay than I can ever convey to you! I will never use H&R again and I would recommend to anyone out there reading my post PLEASE PROTECT YOURSELF...DON"T USE H&R TAX SERVICE PERIOD, in store and online software=very risky, very bad idea. you might get good service and results for a few years, like my husband and I, but it's like playing a game of Russian roulette.
