Unauthorized repair and harassment!
I had my car towed to Harry's for a diagnostic service only. The company was informed that I was repairing the car myself and only wanted the OBD2 test run. He was also informed that if the condition of the engine was bad enough, I already had a replacement, and I would just put the new engine in. They were informed of this over the phone and in person. I was told the test would be run in a couple of days and I would receive a phone call when I could pick it up. I was given a price of $60. After over a week, I finally got a call. I was expecting him to tell me what I needed to do to the car. I was floored to find out he had taken it upon himself to go ahead and repair the car and was expecting nearly $700 for the repair. Remember, I had only agreed to a $60 OBD2 test. I told them on the phone that I had not authorized any work but the test, and they said they would undo the repair and charge me for only the test. When my wife took the check by, she was threatened and verbally harassed (all profanity included). Again, he was trying to get nearly $700, and we were getting the car back with the same trouble it went in with. Finally, everything was straightened out... or so we thought. Suddenly, the car leaked oil at a rate of 3-4 quarts a day. This problem didn't exist when the car was taken in. On further investigation, there were seals and o-rings missing and damage to the oil pump. This could only be the result of a vindictive temper tantrum during the "unrepair". I would not take my car to this mechanic if he was the last mechanic on Earth!
