Haverty's Reviews

incorrect rug delivered (twice!)
A month ago, my wife and I ordered a rug from Haverty's. It took 3 weeks for the rug to be delievered, because upon ordering, it is sent to the warehouse. After it get's to the warehouse, it is then sent to the customer's pick-up store.
Three weeks later, upon pick-up, we took the rug home to disccover it was the wrong rug! Time lost!
We took it back to Haverty's, and they told us they would gladly exchange it. They needed to re-order the rug though, and it would take a few more weeks to come in.
They called us yesterday and told us our rug would be delivered to our home today. They delivered. The packaging was correct. I took the rug, and they took the old one.
Then i opened it up completely, and...WRONG ONE AGAIN!!! The same, incorrect rug!!! I called the delivery folks back, and told them they brought me the same incorrect rug that they just took and exchanged!!! They said that they would tell customer service, and have it fixed.
I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE, MYSELF. They said they would exchange the rug again, but they are, ONCE AGAIN, having to re-order the rug. Not only that, but the rug isnt even in the warehouse...so the rug would have to be put on BACK-ORDER?! What kind of people are working the warehouse's for Haverty's in Brasselton, GA???
So, now im expected to wait 3 more weeks for this rug???!!! By the time they get me what i ordered, it will have taken over 2 months. 2 months for 1 rug. Does that sound right????

poor quality recliner
My husband and I bought a leather sofa and recliner a year ago at Havertys. The furniture is made (I found out later) by Leathermart, we paid $1000 for each piece, wanted a nice set now that the kids have gone to college.
The springs under the recliner have been popping off one by one and we cannot use the chair. Of course it is just out of manufacturers warranty so I was given a number for a "Furniture Medic" in our area apparently that will come and look at it and see if they can fix it. If they can get the parts needed from the manufacturer we will only have to pay for the labor for the repair, no idea how much that will be.
My complaint is that for the price we paid at Havertys we expected to get quality furniture which is not the case. I always thought the name stood for quality and felt fortunate I could shop there but after spending that much on a small leather chair and now haveing to pay to get it fixed I don't feel so fortunate. Havertys hasn't really been any help, could have already called a furniture repair company and not waited for the runaround from them. We thought they might want to know what they were selling out of their store under their name but they don't seem to care.

Financing Scam Artists
I paid for a couch and chair on a zero interest plan for a year. I paid off my bill in installments to Citifinancial who handled the financing for Haverty's and I paid the final bill in the twelth month (I had only 150.00 left to pay). I ask them to cancel my card, instead I got another bill for 174.00 for "finance charges." Outrageous!

These people are scam artists. DO NOT FINANCE WITH HAVERTY'S!

Guardsman Protection
On 09/08/07 we bought a Sofa/Loveseat(hvt #6735so/ls/621-11 scarlett. We also purchased the Guarsman
Protection Plan. We did not receive a copy of this but in the brochure it is worded that your purchase is
protected for (5) years from date of delivery We also filed the claim with Guardsman as required. Your sales
consultant (Michelle Roberts) in the North Richland Hills store told us that we were protected against anything
with this plan.
we filed the claim and Guardsman tells us this is not covered in the plan. The seams on both sofa and loveseat are fraying and the furniture isn't used frequently. If something can't be done about this I will never purchase
another piece of furniture from Haverty's.
If you would like to contact me you can do so by email([email protected]) or 817.691.0433. I will go by the store asap to talk with the Manager about this.

High Prices
I tried to negotiate a discount on a home office collection sold by Haverty's. The Chateau de Vin collection is manufactured by Aspenhome and is modular in construction ... you can mix and match different components.

Haverty's quoted me $5, 000 for the set of components I was interested in. I asked for a 20% discount because I know the margin in the furniture industry are high. I was immediately told that Haverty's has a "no haggle" policy and they could not adjust the price.

I contacted Aspen Home and requested other retailers in the Dallas area that sold their merchandise. I was referred to Weirs and Charter Furniture. Weirs for similiar components (slight differences) quoted me approx $3, 300. Charter Furniture for the same components (from what I could tell) quoted me $3, 000.

I contacted my sales person at Haverty's and alerted her to the price discrepancy. The "Asset Manager" at Haverty's returned my email, and informed me that the Aspen Home furniture that Haverty's carried had "added features" from Weirs which accounted for the difference in pricing. I am an amateur woodworker, so I was interested in what the added feature were ... I went back to Haverty and thoroughly looked over the furniture at Haverty's and could not note any "added features" other than pull out lighting on the hutches (certainly not worth an incremental $2, 000 in my opinion). From what I could tell, the furniture was identical (other than the pull out lighting) to the furniture at Charter and Weirs.

I asked for a complete list of added features that would account for the increased price ... as of yet, no response from Haverty's.

This just proves ... Caveat Emptor

High prices from employees point of view
Let me start off by saying that no one should ever shop at Haverty's and here are reasons why.

1: Furniture markup--- Haverty's furniture is so tremendously marked up far more than any other furniture store. Take a piece that costs $999.00 in the store, Haverty's cost only $299.00. A piece selling for $1, 999.oo, again Haverty's cost is $599.00.

2: Quality of product--- Haverty's product is not the best by comparison. I have seen so many returns because of the unit falling apart or just being delivered damaged.

3: Delivery cost--- Haverty's has raised their delivery charge from $49.95 to $199.99-$699.99. Haverty's just raised 60% of their product to cover high fuel costs and now they want you to pay another price to have your product delivered. You DO NOT have to pay this charge. If anyone pays this, then shame on you.

4: Protection plan (Gold-in Home)--- This "protection" for your furniture is a big joke. Salespeople are given free rang to lie about what this worthless plan covers. Salespeople get paid at least 25% of what you spend for this. The price can range from $199.00-$699.00. If you buy this plan, you might as well kiss your money goodbye. NEVER buy this. It does NOT work.

5: "NO-Haggle policy"--- Haverty's has started this no-haggle policy meaning that they will not discuss price with you. They believe and want you to pay what they say. Haverty's may tell you that their product is a Haverty's brand also. All of this is bull. Haverty's makes none of their product. You can buy 80%-90% of their product from another company at 1/2 the price of Haverty's. Just ask who makes the item and shop around. If they say that it is a Haverty's brand, laugh and walk away. They want you to believe this junk.

I should know, I worked for Havertys for over two years. I know all there is to know about this company.

1: Furniture markup--- Haverty's furniture is so tremendously marked up far more than any other furniture store. Take a piece that costs $999.00 in the store, Haverty's cost only $249.00. A piece selling for $1, 999.oo, again Haverty's cost is $599.00. A King Tempur-pedic Mattress that sells for $3, 199, Haverty's paid only $1, 299.00. You can buy 80%-90% of their product from another store if you know who makes it and all you have to do is just ask. They may give you the bull that it is a Haverty brand (Haverty's does not make any of their product).

2: Protection plan--- This is called "Gold-in Home". Each salesperson is pressured to sell you this bogus plan and instructed to lie about what it does and how it works. This plan can cost you up to $699.00 and it does not do what it claims. Each salesperson can make up to 25% of the total cost if you purchase this worthless plan. If you buy this, kiss your money good-bye.

3: Delivery cost--- Haverty's has raised their delivery charge from $49.95 to $199.99-$699.99. If anyone pays this, then shame on you.

4: "No-Haggle" policy--- Haverty's has started a no-haggle policy meaning that the company is not going to lower their prices for anyone at anytime. Haverty's will tell you that you cannot buy their product anywhere else so you must pay what they are asking. This is bull. If you firmly ask who makes their product and get a company name, you can find the same item somewhere else at a fraction of Haverty's costs. If they claim that it is a "Haverty's" collection, be aware that Haverty's does NOT make any of their products. It is all made by other companies. You DO NOT have to pay what they are asking.

How do I know these things---- I am a former employee. If anyone has any questions then just email me @ [email protected] for full details on anything concerning Haverty's. Email me before you buy and I will save you time and money.
