Hidden delivery fees 17% of purchase price
Do not shop at the Palm Harbor, FL store. The Manager is a rude, boor who bullies his personnel and customers. He could not be bothered to come out of his office regarding his insistence of charging $120 to deliver a sofa bed that we wished to have a professional p/u for us from the store. He said it was at his discretion whether to waive the hidden, mandatory fee. The fee is not printed anywhere on any materials. The purchase price of the item is $749 -- he essentially insists on 17% more money to sell the item to us. If this is how Havertys does business, they do not have stores, but rather, distribution points. The BBB will be on our list to inform of these unscrupulous, hidden fees which are at the discretion of a manager to apply or waive. Horrible management! Horrible store!

Racism
I have never been so offended in all of my life. My Mother and I were shopping for a sleeper sofa for her guest room. We found one that she liked, and asked the associate if we could still get the sale price from the day before. Our associate asked the store manager, who is white by the way, if it was possible. He abruptly said no, and we left to shop around. Well, my Mother still really liked the sleeper sofa that she had seen at Haverty's, so we went back. As we were waiting for the nice ladies at the front desk to ring our sale up, we overheard another sales associate asking the store manager for the sale price from the day before. HE SAID YES! And, what a coincidence, they were white!!!
I've have to deal with things like this my whole life. But, knowing that Haverty's is a southern company, I guess I should not have expected good treatment to begin with.
As for the sleeper sofa, we purchased one from Kittles Furniture instead. I will tell EVERYONE I know about my experience, and I hope others will follow suit.

New table from Haverty's looks years old after two weeks
I purchased the Balboa table from Haverty's and after two weeks the table begin to chip, and scratches begin to appear. If you write on a piece of paper the writing goes through the paper and comes out on the table in the form of a scratch. This table is not for daily use and Haverty's should have informed me of this. I asked for a table to use daily, now I'm stuck with a table that I can't use. All its good for is to look at. It would be worse if I had kids.

Poor quality
My husband and I purchased a living room set from Haverty's in March. When the furniture was delivered on March 21st, it looked as though whoever scotch guarded the fabric sat the cans and their big butt on the furniture before it was dry. We had distinct circles on the ottoman and big smudges on the cushions that should not have been there and would not go away no matter what.

We had a rep from Haverty's come to our house who agreed that the upholstery was messed up and could not be repaired, but that they would be happy to replace everything for us.

We have waited and waited, only to be put off with different delivery dates every time we called. Then three weeks ago we were told the furniture had been discontinued and we would have to pick out something else.

Now, we had already painted for this furniture, bought drapes, and even had new kitchen countertops installed that would compliment the colours of the furniture since you can see our countertops from the living room, and now we have to start over!

Then two weeks ago we got a phone call from our salesperson telling us our discontinued couch, chair, and ottoman were in the warehouse awaiting delivery in one week. Great! Our salesperson told us she would personally inspect each piece before it was brought out to make sure we were not going to be disappointed again. Right.

When the truck got to our house, the driver told us the furniture comes from Atlanta and never gets near the store, so there was no way she could have inspected it for us. Also, it was so shrink wrapped that no one could have inspected anything.

My husband and I climbed up into the back of the truck and started to unwrap this furniture (no sense in taking it off the truck only to have to put it back on if not perfect) only to find mess similar to what we already had. The driver told us he has delivered many couches with this type of fabric but had never seen one such a mess like this.

So, now that set went back to Haverty's as did the first set, so now we have no furniture in our living room except for an end table and two lamps. Lovely!

Haverty's have offered us 20% off on whatever we pick to replace the Donaway Sofa set we had to send back, but we are not hesitant to do business with them.

And we are extremely disappointed with our salesperson. She was great as long as she was making money from us. We haven't heard a word from her since the furniture was sent back a week ago. Very frustrating experience!

Poor customer service
I moved into an apartment while waiting for my home to be built. I bought a sofa & recliner with the expressed intent of going back to get the love seat when the house was complete. I told the sales person my plan and asked her to call me if they discontinued or put on clearance the set I had chosen. When I went back the set was gone. I had been in several times and bought other items from the same lady. Now I have a sofa and recliner ($3000) without the loveseat. They gave me cryptic information on finding the loveseat elsewhere, not enough to actually go on. I spent about $5000 in that store in less than a year, all from the same lady. I believe customer service could have been better!

Their high prices from an employee’s point of view
I have been employed with Havertys for 2+ years. I see how much mark up is with the furniture we sell. This amount is outrageous.

If you take a table w/4chairs that cost $999.00 on the floor, Haverty's cost for that item is $249.00. A Queen Serta mattress that costs $1099.00 on the sales floor costs Haverty's $399.00.

This is only 2 examples of what I see on a daily basis and I believe this truly needs to change. Haverty's now has a no "haggle" policy so that everyone must pay the same "mark-up" price across the board.

Thief and liar
You all have some one that work for that company that lies and steals and do drugs. On a daily basis, will not take responsibilities for their own actions, no matter what they do, they beg, they steal, and lie! On a daily basis. That individual needs to be drug tested, as soon as possible. I am a concerned consumer as well as a paying customer. How can Haverty's Furniture Store can have someone that works in your company that would steal and lie and beg customers for tips? Because they deliver furniture. To the paying customer...they should be FIRED!!!
