In July 2010 we were in the area visiting family. We are an Army family. We were looking for a particular set of living room tables but could not find it in Alabama, where we are currently stationed. We made the purchase but was given a lump sum price for 3 pieces (one of which they had to order) and was offered delivery to AL at their local rate. The offer came through the salesman from Steve Haynes. I asked the salesman for a breakdown on the invoice but he refused saying that that was the offer for all 3. That is where we made a mistake. We were in a hurry to get on the road back to AL so we made the deal.
When two of the three pieces were delivered a few days later, I had to sign the delivery paperwork which had each piece listed separately with a price for each. I made note of the details and after the man left, added it up. I could not believe what I saw. The total retail prices added up to $400 less than what we were charged!! I called the store and spoke to Steve Haynes. He said that was the way the computer prints it out and that the original deal is what we agreed to. I told him that we were overcharged and that I signed the delivery paperwork with the new price. He refused to budge and began to yell at me. I was appalled and yelled back at him and then canceled the order for the third piece (I have since found a local store here that can order it for me at the correct price).
I am a consumer affairs officer for the U.S. Army and will be filing a complaint through the FTC - Military Consumer Sentinel and the Better Business Bureau. We are a family at war defending our country for people like Steve Haynes... he should be ashamed of himself for purposely trying to get over on us.
