Unparliamentary threatening calls!
I am Chandra Shekhar Dwivedi, a customer to HDFC bank who was honored HDFC gold Credit Card. I have been using it since last one year and was happy with the services.

From the last few months there have been some problems. Please read them:

Problem I:

I was using Hutch as the service provider for my mobile the no is: 9873567470. Unfortunately at the very same day when I made the payment of my hutch phone through my HDFC Credit Card, I lost my mobile. I called up hutch Customer Service to stop the outgoing calls and tell the last few dialed numbers. As there was calls being frequently made by the caller on some nos. I thought I could track my mobile through those nos. However Hutch CS denied to provide me the call details. I said that if you will deny me only about my last dialed nos, I would deny paying you as to tell me this has been mentioned in our service agreement. Despite of that they denied. I called HDFC bank credit card CS who told me that the payment for the merchant is still not claimed and they can only stop the payment if the merchant would not claim them. I called up Hutch again requesting them to do so, but was advised that they would not be able to do that at their end which was perfectly sensible. I again called up Credit card CS and was advised to send a fax for the same. To get you all aware is that the people sitting at CS of HDFC are so ignorant that they themselves do not know how to help and assist CS. The communication went on till approximately 2 o clock in the night and I have to pay approximately 400 bugs to my colleague whose phone I was using for calls. Ultimately I was assured by the CS that the payment would not be credited to the merchant even if they will claim that.

However, one can never trust CS team of HDFC, and the same happened with me. It made me pitched off.

Problem II:

I booked an online reservation of IRCTC by my HDFC credit card. The passengers were my mother and my sister. They were traveling at night in a Sleeper Coach. My mother is a mental patient and my sister has been the acting guardian. I did not have time to go and see off them and since the ticket printed online was confirmed, I did not have enough to bother. The Ticket Checker while verification said that he can not validate the same due to some reason. Later on when my sister informed me from some one's mobile I was shocked and was helpless to do anything. I called up Station inquiry and they also were helpless. Then I called up CS of HDFC credit card to check the status of payment. I was advised that the payment was invoiced however the merchant has not claimed that. I asked them to stop their payment and explained them the whole incident. However they denied my request and said that they could not do it at their end and I need to contact IRCTC which was closed during those hours. The next day I contacted the IRCTC, they said they could not do anything as the reservation was past dated and the bank has paid them the amount. I could not claim the cancellation as well.

Problem III: Despite of all these chaos when the bank could actually have saved me from all those above chaos, I made my mind to repay the whole amount. I contacted CS for the repayments. As I had one disputed postings of a Mobile Purchase on my card Account, I got my card Blocked. I contacted CS to reissue my credit card and send me the bills also. I was told that it would get delivered within 15 days following the receipt a written request for the same. I gave the request and did not got the card. When I contacted CS to know about the status of reissue, I was told that it would not be possible for the bank to reissue the card till I do not clear my total outstanding. I humbly said that I have got funds available and would repay the card but I would require my card to live up my livelihood for the rest of the month. But the CS Executive was rude and firmly said that the bank would not address the request till the time they would not receive the payment. I said that if in case I would not get my card back then in that case I would not make any payments as I would be using my funds for my Higher Studies. I was advised that it would be my sole wish and she is not bothered for that. I asked to call up the supervisor on the call and was told that she would not be able to do that as well and disconnected the call.

Problem IV: I then went off on my leaves for my higher studies. After some time, I got a mail from Meenakshi Mehrotra from HDFC Bank regarding the payments on which I reverted the same day. I would definitely start banking with HDFC after I get back from my leaves. I do not have funds available now to repay the bank as I have already used that. After this, I was given some threatening calls by Mr. Vikram Rana who said that he is from the Legal Department of HDFC bank Rajauri. Apart from me he started giving calls to my family as well. My father was mentally assassinated by those calls. I have some clippings of those conversation which I would love to post if in case if continues. I contacted Bank n no of times, and they only apologized and kept promising for a call back since last 15 days. I got a call from Summit who said that there would definitely be some compensation after the verification. I am still waiting for a resolution and will definitely keep on updating the same.

Payment issues!
I have made a payment os Rs 3000.00 Cash in Madurai Branch for my Credit Card. But that payment was not reflected in my Card Account. So the Customer Care Guys asked me to send a fax for Requesting to revert the cash with the Challan Copy ans so i send the fax and confirmed with those guys whether they received the Fax also. They confirmed that the amount will be reverted within two working days but still its not reflected and now i contacted the customer care guys and asked about the request raised by me and now they told that to resend the Fax once again and it was totally frustrating me.

Faulty billing not being reversed!
I have HDFC Bank Credit Card No. 5176 5210 0365 6446 (earlier Card No. 5176521002431254). My wife holds a co-card for this credit card.

On 19.12.06, Smart Pay Facility was activated on this card for my and my wife’s ICICI Insurance Policies (01405598 and 01206352). The same was confirmed by HDFC Bank Card Division through their letter dated 19.12.06.

On 03/03/07, The HDFC Bank paid premium to some other policy (No. 0140698) of ICICI and sent the bill to me. Later, on verification with the ICICI Bank I came to know that the premium has not been paid for my policy by my credit card company and there is no insurance policy with ICICI of the No. to which HDFC Bank claims to have paid the premium.

On 29/04/07, I sent a letter to the HDFC Credit Card Division to reverse the faulty billing and reverse all the late payment charges and interest charged for this transaction on my credit card due to the faulty billing. . For nearly two months every one from HDFC call center kept on arguing that they have made payment to correct policy and I need to sort out the matter with the ICICI Insurance. After repeatedly giving them the reference to the letter by which Smart Pay Facility was activated, the call center team behaves politely. But every time I called the call center, I was told to wait. I have received two letters from Credit Cards Division of HDFC Bank telling me that they are looking in to the matter.

I my letter dated 29/04/07 I requested HDFC Bank Card Division to stop all smart pay facility on my card also. In response to this, the bank stopped smart pay facility on my card but some for one else’s policy, a third policy on which neither the smart pay facility has been activated nor the payment has been made (ICICI policy No.01406598).

On July 18th: Mr. Amit Bhardwaj, Assistant Manager, Collection Dept called and told that my card is inactive. It has been decided to reverse the transaction. However, to reverse the transaction the card needs to be activated and for that I need to pay Rs. 490/- which will be credited to my account. I was told to make the payment the same day, else he will declare me defaulter and I will have to handle court case and police will come to my place. Hoping that things will get sorted out if I pay Rs. 490, I paid the amount vide their receipt No. F 44440009 dated July 18, 07.

On August 12th, Sunday some one again called me asking for immediate payment for the full amount.

On August 17th some one called me telling that I should pay up the full amount immediately, else they will send some one to my house the next day and I will have to face the consequence (Kal jo apke ghar pe jo tamasha hoga, aap dekhna). I complained about this immediately to Ms. Alka Paul, the senior most official available in their call center about this and as usual, she was polite and assured me that she will ensure that no body visits my home.

On August 25, 2007 Mr. Sameer Bhargava of Escalation Department called me to inform that no body will call me for payment till the dispute is settled.

On September 15, 2007, I have received a bill date 08/09/07 with late fee and financial charges with a comment that my credit history will be shared with the RBI approved credit bureaus.

I have also received a legal NOTICE dated 08/09/07 from Debt Management and Legal Support – Credit Cards of HDFC Bank that the Bank has placed a “Hold on Funds” I my account No. 0321000028806 with HDFC Bank’s branch at C-5, Safdarjung Development Area, Commercial Complex, New Delhi – 110 016 by exercising the Bankers liern and Right of Setoff’ option to the extent of the balance available in my account as on 08/09/07. I have been told to “remit the sum outstanding on my Credit Card A/C with in 7 days of receipt of this notice” failing which the balance amount will be adjusted from my account.

The decision of the HDFC Bank Card team and its Legal Support team to send me a legal notice is tantamount to institutional financial terrorism/ arm-twisting.

Why does the Bank feels that I am liable to pay the minimum amount due indefinitely if it refuses to reverse the faulty transaction? I have already paid nearly 1400/- over and above the due amount excluding the faulty transaction and associated charges on the faulty transaction.

They are not acknowledging the mail now. I think I am left with no option but to take them to consumer court and demand for compensation for my telephone bills, time wasted and interest on the amount held by them besides penalty for harassment.

Not getting statement
I got a HDFC credit card a few months back and had given my email id for sending the statements as I am a single man living alone. Since the first month till date I have not got my statements. I used to call their customer service lines at AHMEDABAD, I live in BARODA and take the amount and pay the cheque. Not until I stopped calling that their representative called asking for payment. When I explained to her she said she will get it resolved, I paid the amount whatever she told me over the phone. Its been two months since and I have been writing mails to their email id, neither have I got any solution to the problem nor am I getting statements. I have informed them at 079 66004332, 0265 6585113, 0265 6621383 still no solution. How can I get this resolved.

Amount transfer from bank through Electronic transfer!
As i am very old customer of hdfc bank from 1998 and also given so many customer to them but also caught in their list. Know i think that the person who make fraud and skip ,they are the right one bcoze that people cannot be caught it only make fool of reliable customer. My complaint is this when we never authorized bank to make any payment through electronic transfer than how can they debit our bank account with any permission from us. It is also a fraud on behalf of bank who manipulates there records and deduct money from our account. As there is no body to listen this rbi or govt. Authority they all making fool of innocent customer from whom they are earning business. If there is any body who solve this type of problem please mail me, i like to take legal action against bank or there concerned employee.

Can't understand them
I was HDFC Credit Card Hold Card bnum 4346772000030535 which was got closed in 2005 same as been due to loss of card hence as per the instruction i made payment viq debt note from my saving account after that there is no communication know recently i started received calls from collection saying o/s 15000 as well i name as been shared under RBI list also after visited to the branch they say we are help less boss that was happen on 2005 now we cannot issue a NOC as well RBI Email Details of the communication enclosed below FYI:

Note ** As you committed saying that visit the branch by Monday to collect the same but when i called you on Monday you ask me to visit today i visited but your not in office as well your not responding my call also which really show how good your responding my call as well customer call.

Note ** If your not able to provided the right details please do update me your Head of the department person details bcoz which is not fare providing wrong commitments.

Its pure mistake from your bank Person Ms. Roopa Naik bcoz i have all the records expect NOC, please do update your Collection team members not to visit my place & also educate them to call me before visiting, please do confirm me back i want my name to remove from RBI DATA BASE as well i required NOC from your Bank.

Undue harassment
This is with reference to my credit card problem since April 2006 and after plenty of requests nobody listens to my problem and not even I've received my credit card statements, but after requesting so many times at last I received missing statements through e-mail then I go through it and after finding pending entries I made full and final payment of Rs 5050/- except undue charges that was only due to delay for sending the monthly statements by HDFC credit card division.

Now I have received legal notice for pending payment of Rs. 12150.25/- in that notice it is also mentioned that I am not available on the telephone nos. which I've provided to the company but for your kind information I am using the same no from last 3 years and so many times I've received calls from HDFC mumbai head office and discussed my problem with concerned person but they were unable to give satisfactory answers to me.

Following is the detailed task of my problem:-

1. Dated 10-03-2006 - given written request in local HDFC Bank branch located at Sangrur for reversal of smart pay in LIC that credit card division has wrongly paid to LIC co.(discussed through mails) but they refused to pay back even when it was their fault.
2. Dated 18-04-2006 – Evening 4.20 P.M talked to Ms Arpana at chandigarh customer care office and requested for pending statements so that I can pay the pending bill amount but I didn’t receive the same.
3. Dated 20-05-2006 – Morning 11.05 A.M talked to Ms Parul Desai, explained her all detail of my case and requested for the statements but I didn’t receive the same.
4. Dated 18-06-2006 – sent fax to chandigarh credit card division( fax- 0172-2266206) for reversing the charges for wrongly paid smart pay premium and requested for pending credit card statements but they didn’t respond to me.
5. Dated 01-08-2006 – After so many requests I never ever received any statement from the company so I paid Rs 1450/- as on 1-8-2006 that I was remembered to pay.
6. Dated 20-09-2006 - Again I requested for credit card statement on customer service but again I ve not recd.
7. Dated 30-10-2006 – still I was not having any statement from your side but I paid Rs 4234 that I was remembered to pay.
8. Dated 20-11-2006 - Amount Paid Rs 12429 /- of LIC
9. Dated 28-11-2006 - I again requested for the statement on customer service but again I was waiting for the same. But then I ve paid Rs 8772+3650 = 12422/- of my purchasing.
10. Dated 2-12-2006 – Paid Rs 2500.

In the mean while I started conversation through e-mail with customer service you can check with reference no – 003-396-098.
After receiving my missing statements through email I paid my unpaid bills that comes around Rs 5050/- and that was my full and final payment after that I stopped using the HDFC card.

That was all about my bad experience with HDFC bank credit card and even after so much harassment I've received legal notice from their side now??

False credit card payments
I am holding HDFC 2 Credit Cards.

As per bank people instructions i have clear the amount on 27/01/2007 for both the cards and the executive collected the Cards from me. I have collected the Customer copy from executives for the payment and executive has mentioned clearly on the receipt like "No Dues and clear the amount" and executive has collected the Credit Cards from me.

After 2 months again i am getting so many calls from Agencies to pay the payment without using the card and cards are collected on 27/01/2007. Regarding this i have talked to bank people and i have sent mail also but i didn't receive any response from bank side. Regarding this I have spoken with Customer Care on 23/04/2007 at 3PM and the reference no is 26581196.

But till now i didn't receive any response from Bank but i am getting calls from Hyderabad and Bangalore from agencies and they are talking fallaciously words with my parents and to me also.

Late fee charges
I’m using, my HDFC Credit Card from past one year. I had found Rs.4000/- Late fee charged in my statement. I was logged ‘n’ no of complaints (thru e-mail/telephone) to the HDFC Bank customer care to reverse the amount of irrelevant transaction against me. Still I could not get any response from them and not yet resolved the issue.

Harassing people who are no longer their customers
I had HDFC Credit Card some 2-3 years back. I cancelled the card as didn't need to pay the yearly charges that they had put on my card and i had another card free of annual charges... but HDFC Credit Card guys keep calling me and keep telling that i have some amount due to pay which is so ridiculous as never made any purchase... They keep adding yearly cards to the card that i cancelled and keep calling me... They are the most unprofessional bank i have ever had the misfortune to interact with...
