ello my name is Jayna Appling the mother of Caleb Vazquez. Caleb was born on 4.4.2011. I was referred to Health First Medical Group by Medicaid/Ameriagroup Insurance. I scheduled Caleb's first check up with Dr. Vermette (H0905) when Caleb was 2 weeks old. Dr. Vermette requested we return for a second check up when Caleb turned 2 months old. I had an appointment for 6.3.2011 at 2pm (which was a Friday) with Dr. Vermette. I waited in the lobby until 3pm when I was then called into the exam room. Once I got in the exam room a nurse came in to the room and told me that the doctor was not going to be able to administer Caleb's first shots because it was 24hours before he turned 2 months old and that the doctor said he was too young to get his 2 month old shots. I asked if I may speak with the doctor and then nurse explained to me that if the doctor steps foot in to the room an office visit would automatically be charge to the insurance company even if nothing is administered. I then explained that I would really like to speak with the doctor about the issue. The nurse left the room then returned shortly and told me that Dr. Vermette did not have time to speak with me and that if there are any issues with him not being able to come into the exam room for me to take it up with the office manager. When I requested to then speak with the office manager the receptionist said she was busy. Then the receptionist asked if I would like to set up my next appointment and at that time I said no I don't believe I will be returning to this doctors office. I have now received a certified letter in the mail stating that Dr. Vermette will not see me or my child for any medical needs. This is the absolutely unprofessional and absurd. They medical staff at this facility are making me feel as if I did something out of line. I only showed up for my appointment and when the nurse said the doctor was not going to come in the room, I asked her to have him come in and explain to me (which would have been the professional thing to do) They refused. Now my child is not only denied wellness check ups at the North beach location but apparently all facilities associated with Health First Medical Group. I tried making an appointment at another location near my house and they said there is some sort of block under my child's name. This is very unfair considering not many places accept medicaid and these are the only facilities near my home.
