I am 13 years old, I've recently been trying to earn more money so i could get spare money to spend on things i wanted. I then went on helium.com, on their website they claimed that they paid writers for their work. I then signed up and started to work really hard. I spent 3 days and 3 long nights writing and writing so i could earn more than 25 dollars (the amount needed before you can withdraw the money out) They credit my account with 5 dollars for signing up. I thought this was quite generous, (i should have known that it would be physically impossible to make 25 dollars so i'd probably never get paid that 5 dollars) When i had reached 28 articles, i realised my account wasnt credited with the 50 cent per article i was meant to be recieving (since i had one writing star). I emailed them and asked them why the payments wasnt showing. They then made me read the help section again, I had to read it over about 3 times (not exaggerating) to finally understand their upfront payment scheme, which stated that the first 5 articles on a title were the only ones paid, according to them if 10 writers wrote on an article such as 'why cocaine is bad for the body' the first five were the only ones that deserved to be paid. They only did this so that they would avoid paying all the other writers that worked hard, also creative writing articles were not paid, they didnt state the reason why they wouldnt get paid. The company still recieves revenue they are just refusing to pay writers what they clearly should be getting paid for. Also, Articles once written cannot be deleted, they make sure we tick a box stating that we understand that once the articles have been submitted they cant be deleted. Writers should own sole responsibility of what they write so we should have the right to delete the article since we have not traded them with the company and are only showing them on their website. After this, I was really upset. I had worked really hard, day and night writing articles that were around 400 words and poems that i tried to make top quality, since i'm only 13 years old you can imagine how i must have felt after learning that all my hard work had been for nothing except 5 dollars and a couple of cents that i would never recieve. My family were angry and upset and told me to email the company. After emailing the company they basically told me in nicer words that i should have read the help section better and that they werent going to do anything about it. Their help section wasnt really any help, i've seen similar websites such as e-how that pay their writers an before even signing up to the website they explained the payment section in a really simple way that made me understand. I wanted to complain to warn other people of how this company works and how it may seem like your getting in a good deal but really your selling your perfectly good articles for no profit. I strongly recommend people not signing upto this website.
