a company like Hendrickson Trucking only compensate a driver for the miles between point "A" and Point "B" They don't compensate their drivers actual hub or odometer miles they pay based off of some trucking book guide load brokers use to bid out brokered loads. For Example, traveling from Tehachapi to Barstow fueling then driving from Barstow to Moreno Valley. My starting mileage in Tehachapi was 11149 arriving in Barstow 11239 (90 miles) Then traveling from Barstow to Moreno Valley 11329 a total of (90 miles) Hendrickson purposely paid 75 miles Tehachapi to Moreno Valley and 75 a total of 150. We were purposely shorted 30 miles!
Please keep in mind that these trucks are monitored 24/7 by Hendrickson's GPS /Satellite Communication box. Every communication from the truck generates a location and time and Hendrickson has the ability to Ping the trucks location at any time and go back and historically account for where the truck was. So there is no excuse for the payroll person to say they don’t know.
Every commercial truck driver is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) they have enacted laws and rules to help ensure the safety of each truck driver. Yet at the local level you have corporations purposely out to avoid the basic welfare of the commercial driver, focusing upon the fact that they are moving a lot of freight across the state at the expense of the commercial driver's time. As truck drivers are paid for driving (transporting) a load from point "A" to point "B." On the log book drivers get paid from line #3 Driving. Any time a driver is on Line 4 ON DUTY (NOT DRIVING) The driver is not earning any compensation. That’s right the time a diver is loading at a dock or waiting for someone to unload his truck the Driver is NOT being compensated for his or her time! And here is the rub the dispatchers and recruiters strongly encourage driver to not log anything on line #4 or the bare minimum, because that takes away from your available hours to work. This also encourages drivers to falsify their logbooks, to keep as much of their available time to work for line #3. I was strongly encouraged by dispatch to go back and rewrite my log book so they could dispatch me to another load and keep our truck going and head us back to Sacramento.
This kind of manipulation occurs everyday with Hendrickson!!
