Rented a car thru a Priceline bid for a week, paid $208.94 well in advance. Picked up car at SFO on June 4, fended off all the sales pitches from the old guy at the counter, i.e. upgrade size of car, extra insurance, full tank of gas, date with his wife, everything he tried to sell me. He offered a Toyota or a Nissan, we chose Toyota and when we got to where the car was parked, it was a Nissan!! 1 for the employee??
Stayed at airport hotel final night in San Fran, filled car tank full before retiring for the evening at gas station across the street from hotel and 1 mile from car return.
Returned vehicle to Hertz at 4 AM as we had 6AM flight to Miami. Black guy at Hertz return area looked at car said OK and reminded us to leave keys. We did.
Several days later a bill appeared on my Citi Bank bill for $77.71, then a paper arrived in the mail from Hertz that stated we had "fuel and service" for that amount and we had returned the car at noon.
Called Hertz, was put on hold for 8 minutes, never spoke with anyone.
EMailed Hertz and Priceline to no avail.
I have initiated a charge back at Citi.
We read and hear about these scam rental car companies but I thought it was the little guys, not Hertz.
Avoid these 2, Hertz and Priceline, save yourself the aggravation.
