CHARGED FOR 2 FRONT TYRES
I rented a Ford Focus for 22 days pick up Heathrow drop of Stanstead. I drove 1350 miles mostly on motorways . On dropping of the car, the attendant walked around the car and then got down on his haunches and made a detailed inspection of both front tyres and reported to me that both tyres had damaged side walls. I stated to him that I had not hit anything during my rental and that the damage sheet given to me on pickup showed that all wheels had been damaged.. I wrote a report and signed it. The tyres were also old and the car had done 38, 000 miles.
On my return to Australia I received a receipt showing that I had been charged for 2 new tyres totalling 204 GBP. I have corresponded with hert now for more than a month and basically had no response other than their standard " customer service" report. It seems that their approach is leave it for long enough and the customer will give up!!

I have spoken to a professional tyre repairer in Australia and they consider it unlikely that both front tyres could be damaged without the rear tyres also being affected. The Tyre invoice sent to me by Hertz states that the front tyres tread depth was 4mm and the rear tyres were 8mm!

Refused to honor rental confirmation.
I rented a mini van from Hertz on 06/04/2011, on line for pick up on 07/05/2011. I went to pick it up at 12:00 noon as scheduled. The van was filty & smelly. The Hertz agent claimed their car wash was out of order but he had swepted it out himself. I asked if they could send it to All Season Car Wash in the next block. He said ok. I left & returned at 4:30 PM to pick up the van it was still dirty. The agent started questioning me as if I was a suspect. He asked if I had ever used Hertz before & started to layout their policies. He didn't want to honor the printout with my confirmation # & AAA discounts by raising the price $50. I gave him my drivers license. He ran an unecessary full credit report with no problems found. Then he tells me they could only accept a checking account Visa Card. That didn't make any sense. I gave him my bank card then he says his system was down & he had to call his boss. They talked then he tells me his boss said my card was declined because they had to add an additional $250. hold fee to the $437. weekly rental & I didn't have that in my account. He said that my bank only allows me a $500. limit on the card in 24 hrs. I immediately called my bank & up the volume on my cell so the Hertz agent could hear the person at the bank. My checking acc. balance was over $4, 000. & my card limit was $2, 500. credit or debit in 24 hrs. & there had been no declines. Everything he said was a lie. Then he says "I can't rent you that van maybe you should come back tomorrow after 11 AM. & there is nothing else I can do to help you. We were leaving for Gatlingburg TN at 3 AM the next morning & was forced to go in two cars. Hertz never returned my calls.I will never do business with Hertz again or recomend them.

Unprofessional treatment
Rudely treated on check in. I had asked several questions of the female manage.such as do you photo copy the D / L. Some Rental co's on the Island take that liberty and I wouldn't care to do so. Hertz doesn't
She Abruptly informed me of a$900. Charge that would be added to my contract, for incidents such as vandalism etc.
While I was waiting for the contract. The power failed. (the computer went down)They asked me to sign a blank contract.which I Refused.the Manager said sir if you don't like our terms, you can go down the road and rent from someone else.the power went back on.
I thought this was a rude answer. I was traveling with my daughter who was in her wheelchair and to push her down the road in the hot sun would be difficult. The car was reserved and rented by my wife and so chose not to walk the highway.
Prior to this incident we had waited for their van at their loading area they passed us up. We had to wait for the return of the van in the hot sun.
We used the car for one week. While leaving the beach on a Wednesday afternoon we tried to gain entry into the vehicle. The locks would not open and their were no remote key entry provided.
We made contact with the main office and they sent a mechanic.
He had a clipboard in hand and would not proceed to open the door until my wife signed the pre written document. Charging us $270. For lock tumblers. We returned the car at the office and were charged an additional day's rental.
I rent cars when traveling to places such as Disneyworld. I can not feel comfortable renting from Hertz after being treated this way.

Unfair charges
I needed to rent a vehicle while mine was to be serviced. I called and spoke with the service representative at the Metro Detroit location.I asked about the rental process regarding the use of a debit card. She explained that they would obtain a credit check and if the score met the guidelines set by the company I would be able to rent the car. I explained that my score was 791 but I had an bankruptcy on the report, she said as long as the score was adequate for the company I would be OK. I then drove to the location and my debit application was declined.My problem is that I prepaid with my credit card before I reached the DTW to hurry the process. When I called the Hertz company, I was told that there would be a 25 dollar cancellation. I explained to the service representative Whitney that I had called before I purchased the rental to explain about the credit score and the credit report. She stated that if I had called before I reached the store I would not have been charged. How could I call before I reached the location when the store customer service rep told me it would be ok. I then attempted to just change the day of pick Up but she said it would be 25.0 to change the date. I ask to speak to someone in the retention area to clarify why I would not be a positive customer for Hertz and was refused. SO IF ANYONE IS READING THIS DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ!!!

No doubt Hertz is not on our favorite company list
My husband and I were some of several people trying to return rental cars on a Sunday where the Hertz representative did not tell anyone that they were closed on Sunday.

After several hours and many calls to Hertz 800 numbers and many unacceptable and dumb answers to our dilemma, we finally figured out that we would have to return the car somewhere else.

Then Hertz had the audacity to bill us for returning to an open location at the airport. We were trying to return by the train station.

It cost us 60 Euros more for their stupidity, lost train reservations and cab fairs.

No doubt Hertz is not on our favorite company list.

Overcharges/Service
Do not rent from Hertz in Mexico!!! They only steal your Money. They are thieves and should not be trusted to rent from. They charge you for “Damages” that do not exist and they will not work with you on these charges. Hertz “Worldwide” Customer Service can not speak with you regarding charges in Mexico and will not help you either. You are stuck on your own to try to dispute these charges. It only leads to lost time and frustration. I repeat DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ IN MEXICO OR OUTSIDE OF THE USA. When I tried to dispute the charge with the Mr. Pablo Corona he tried to get me arrested. There was no “chip” in the windshield. When I tried to dispute it he said just try and I will get you arrested. Do not Do not Rent from Hertz anywhere in Mexico. I was a Hertz #1 Gold Member. Wow how would I have been treated if I wasn’t a “preferred” guest member of theirs? Wow!!! Save yourself the hassle and do not rent from Hertz outside of the United States.

No se alquile de Hertz en México!!! Roban solamente su dinero. Son ladrones y no deben ser confiados en para alquilarse. Le cargan para los “daños” que no existen y ellos no trabajarán con usted en estos cargos. El servicio de cliente “mundial” de Hertz no puede hablar con usted con respecto a cargos en México y no le ayudará tampoco. El Sr. Pablo Corona me amenazo con ser arrestado, cuando trate de discutir los cargos. Sálvense la frustración de rentar con ellos!!

Wrong Identity
For some reason, we have been linked to a Hertz car rental out of the LA Airport. For some reason, someone told the Napa Police department that we rented a car at the LA location in November 2010 and then this car ran a red light in Napa. My daughter and I did not rent this car from Hertz in November. This is a hardship that Hertz told the Napa police that it was us. People should not rent from Hertz. I have asked them to send me a letter that we were not involved in this incident and they won't. Why did Hertz do this? Hertz told my daughter that I was the one that rented the car. I didn't. Could someone from [email protected] or by phone at 877-977-5771 why they gave my address to the Napa Police department? How did they get my address? Am I barking up the wrong tree. Why won't Hertz resolve this. Lesson to be learned is don't rent from Hertz especially when they give out your address to the Napa Police!

Price - Hidden Fees
So - after falling for the United Airlines - Hertz prepaid offer, we ended up paying almost $200 dollars for a 2 days rental on a Toyota - please be smarter then us and NEVER RENT FROM HERTZ.

Stole items left in the car
I rented a car at the Milwaukee Airport on 10-19-10 and returned it on 10-21-10. I made the fatal mistake of leaving two items in the car. I was given a name Carrol at 414-747-5335ext 210 to locate these items.I called and the call went to Carrol voice mail to leave a message, THE MAILBOX IS FULL!!! So I call back and call back and call back (frustrated)call back and call back and call back (real frustrated)call back and call back and call back (real real frustrated) it gets worse but I cant put that in an email!!! So I start calling another number 414-747-5200 ext 0. I call and was put on hold day after day, get to talk to a suppervisor ? and he said he would call back, one week later no call. I called today 11-23-10 and talked to Shannon and she tells me that items are noly kept for ten days, but she will give Carrol my message ( if she even works there ) and Carrol will call me back. I say NO MORE Hertz. I had hair when this started.

Don't book cars through Hotels.com
Don't book cars through Hotels.Com. I booked a Hertz car for one day for San Jose Costa Rica and with the estimated taxes added on, the amount was supposed to be about $15. When I got to the rental counter, they added on a bunch of charges and the bill was going to be over $50. Then they wanted to put $1200 on my credit card as a deposit on the car. I cancelled the car and took a taxi.
