I have been trying to work with HFC concerning a side loan that they made to me when I refinanced my mortgage. For several years all was well until my mother fell ill with cancer which unfortunately was not one that responded to traditional chemotherapy. Instead she needed a special type of therapy that carried a co-pay of 1400 dollars per dose. My mother lived with me on social security so what could I do but pay the money. Eventually we ran out of savings and it came down to what do we pay...so the side loan fell behind...I had to keep the mortgage and such up. Well, HFC immediately filed a lawsuit and the judge ruled in their favor...and a lien was placed on my home on which they already held the mortgage. The account was then turned over to a bottom feeder attorney who demanded 500 dollars every two weeks or else. I tried my best but my mother unfortunately passed away and I had to take care of the arrangements as she died destitute. I contacted the attorney's office and they wouldn't hear of my missing a payment...and when I did the filed a writ of execution upon my checking account which had a large sum of 35.69 at the time. But, the bank who held the account added legal fees for reporting this to them and I ended up 572.35 overdrawn...so I was even further behind. I asked the attorney's office to let me wait until December 18th and I would send a double payment...but instead on December 17th they again executed on my checking account that the next day would have my direct deposit from both my jobs and my Christmas bonus. I only found out about it when I went to draw the money to send to them. I immediately called the attorney and she stated that they were taking it all...2954.00...and I could do nothing about it. I called everyone all the way to the CEO's office at HFC and begged, groveled, demeaned myself asking to PLEASE leave me something to feed my kids for Christmas. Instead I was told it wasn't PERSONAL and the froze my account and took all but 50.51 for me to last for a month. I now cannot pay my mortgage to them and guess what they have started to call about that though technically I am not yet deliquent. I honestly do not know what path to take and I want everyone to know what an evil company that HFC is. I am destitute, will probably lose my home and also the respect of my two children as I am a single mom. I saw these stories before but never thought that it really happened...well I can tell you everything I say in this complaint is true. Stay away from HFC/HSBC...they don't care about anything but money.
