Former H.H. Gregg Employee
November 3, 2010
TREATMENT & DISCRIMINATION
WARNING TO POTENIAL EMPLOYEES:
H.H. Gregg is a career move you surely could live without, it would be your worst nightmare and you would probably make more money doing home deliveries of you local newspaper door to door.
I am a former employee who is surely not bitter do to the fact I have a much better job (real job) now so please don't get me confused with someone who is a disgruntled employee. The first lie they tell you is that you can make up to $20 per hour, nothing can be further from the truth. You are lucky if you make ten since they only pay $7.25 per hour on a forty hour week in a commission v.s. draw pay system. If you have the misfurtune of working over 40 hours and don't make $300, they will give you overtime hours (time and a half) on every hour over forty that you did not ask for. If you don't make enough to cover the overtime money in sales they take it back from you on you next check. Sound good to you, it is not. You are taxed on the higher total, you don't get that back which means you worked for nothing.
The manager is named John Cool at the Roosevelt Blvd location in Philly and his only concern is not you, it is the store. If a coustomer wants to buy a product which pays you $75 in commission and you can not close the deal with a reasonable price the store will take it to under cost just to get the volume. Managers get paid on store volume, you do not. Now your $75 has srunk to maybe $8 and they expect you to be a happy camper with that. They strive to keep their pockets fat and keep you in the poor house. Don't fall for the myth they state to you about their deficit policy, it is all in the favor of store management.
One last note, they treat the employess like crap. It is the worst place you could imagine when you have to go in everyday. You are forced to follow the customers around like they are thieves not letting them look around or even breathe. When you ask them why is that the policy they quote, " If you don't want to be confronted go to Best Buy". I have been waiting to see a customer run off with side by side refrigerator so I can film it and place it on U TUBE. In all reality, Best Buy is still the better choice. SAY NO TO H.H. GREGG !!!

Unauthorized charges
On 9/29/08 I purchased a dishwasher and paid via debit card. I returned the next day to change my order because of the wrong fit. There was a difference of $427 which was suppose to go back in my bank account in 72hrs. It has been three telephone conversations and false promises and 15 working days and I still don't have my money.
If I don't have the money by tomorrow 9/17/08 I will go to the store and insist on a check or I will have to get an attorney to collect for me.
I'm sure if I owed the store this money they would be knocking down my door by now.

Lack of customer service
I bought a freezer from H.H. Gregg in July 2007. It was my first visit to an H.H. Gregg store and my first purchase from them, and will be my last. First off, we were entirely ignored in the store until one of the salesmen realized we were there as serious purchasers. Then he gave us very smart-alecky service and tried to double-charge us for delivery. When the freezer was delivered, the delivery men rammed into a tree in front of my house. They didn't apologize at all, didn't say hi, nothing--my daughter was just anxious for them to leave, because they were so scuzzy and creepy. Afterward, the bark was peeling from the tree and the neighbors were worried it would fall, so I reported it to the city (it was on city property) and the city took it down. The tree may have been on city property, but it did provide us shade and we do miss it.
Gregg had sent a couple of men out to inspect the damage, but as of today, I'd heard nothing back, so I called. The woman I spoke with asked me "what sort of resolution would you like to this?" I said ideally I'd like the tree replaced but that I thought a refund of my $45.00 delivery charge would be the least they could do. This afternoon a man called me back from Gregg and told me that, since the city had taken the tree down, they considered the "case closed." He sounded aghast when recounting that I'd asked for a refund of my delivery charge. He kept repeating that the "case was closed" and said there "wasn't any damage to their truck". He ignored me when I mentioned that my daughter had seen the collision happen.
I said: "Well, you won't have me as a customer again." "Okay," was his response. I'll never go back to H.H. Gregg again and plan to give them as much bad press as I can. There's no excuse for "customer service" like this in this day and age. I simply can't believe the consistent rudeness and bad service this place delivered.
