I sent the following letter by email and snail mail and never heard back from the company.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am very angry and upset.

My little girl joined 4-H this year and asked Santa for only one thing...a cake decorating set. I have never done any cake decorating but when I was in Hobby Lobby in late November early December, I saw that the sets were (I believe 30%) off of the $59.99. I purchased it and quickly hid it in the closet at home.

My daughter was very excited on Christmas morning. She was unable to use the kit right away because she goes to her dad’s house right after Christmas. We finally got around to using it on January 20th for a birthday cake. Not the most professional cake but beautiful just the same, decorated in blue.

This past Sunday she went to make Valentine's Day cupcakes. When we took the cap off the red it was almost empty. You could see the marks where a knife had been used to scoop out the red color. My daughter looked confused then explained to me that Santa's elves must have used it to make cookies. Very sweet, however, it made me ill. I then went to Michaels (as you were closed) and looked at their set. The tips were all wrapped in plastic as was all the books and bags etc. When I purchased Jordan's everything was just laying in the case. I then went home and counted everything that was listed on the front and we were missing a couple tips (I don't know which ones) and several bags.

I called your Hobby Lobby this morning hoping they would just replace this obviously used case with a new one while my daughter was at school. I was a little grossed out by the fact that these items used for food had been used. The store manager in Cheyenne, WY not only refused to exchange the case but basically said it was impossible because no one at her store would have taken that cake set on return. She did offer to replace the red and give me a couple of free tips. However, given the nature of item being a food item I said I would like a new case. She started getting angry, said she wouldn't argue with me and that if she could confirm with her assistant manager that they had taken back a cake kit last year then she would be willing to give me a few free items, but didn't think it was a big deal. Her rudeness and inability to acknowledge that a mistake could have been made was both rude and insulting.

I do acknowledge that I probably don't have the receipt any longer because I had no intention of returning the item after Santa had given it to my daughter. And for that I am sorry. However, I never thought I would have a problem returning something that was clearly taken back by the store.

I am very disappointed in the service provided by the store and ask that you exchange my daughter’s cake decorating kit.
