Fleetwood homes has a problem, and I really can't understand why you would continue to allow what I see as just plain poor quality control to affect your reputation. When I purchased my home I was happy to find an alternative to a stick built home. Something which was built faster and as your brochures state much better and healtheir. Now having gone through the horror of owning one, I am just so angry that I was so taken. The list of damages to my "new" home ranged from bowed walls, to unsecured plumbing, to electrical shortcuts, and on and on. It amazes me that this house was inspected and left the factory in its condition. It only shows me that either there is no inspection made, or someone is getting very rich and closing their eyes to defects. What a waste of money, time and reputation.
I purchased this home because my husband has cancer. We moved from Illinois to Indiana to my daughter’s farm so that he could have less stress and work on getting well. He has lung issues and I was told that these homes are less likely to have mold issues due to being built indoors and away from the elements. But, with all the leaks we have, mold is probably everywhere. We moved from a 3500 sq ft home where our heating cost was approximately $200 per month, we have been here since the week after thanksgiving and already to date spent over $400 on heating fuel, this with a r-19 rating? Most everything in the brochure we received is false, from the happy people pictured in the brochure to the quality and “name brands” used. Our salesman, tony of holiday homes, was worse than a used car salesman, promising everything and delivering nothing. Bait and switch doesn’t even compare to his tactics.
Fleetwood would spend much less time repairing damages if they were not made in the first place, and I realize people make mistakes. But, I have heard and seen that every home has as much if not more damage than mine. They are so busy repairing houses and compiling work orders that they can't even get one finished. I have been waiting almost 3 months and all I get is a run around. They have repaired the same wall 3 times with no result. It truly is a shame that Fleetwood can not stand up to the warranty it provides in a timely manner. People are excited to have a new home and when they step inside and see the poor quality and damage, the excitement turns to anger. Not only at Fleetwood, but at themselves for being taken.
I have still not gotten the pleasure of enjoying my new home and I am so embarrasssed that I don't even invite anyone inside. My holidays were ruined because of my family basically spending the entire time telling me what a fool I was to purchase something like this. Why? If you need more inspectors I would gladly apply for the job, and I would never allow a house to leave the factory unless it would make me proud. Maybe you should hire people who like their job and have a sense of pride; obviously you don't have any of those people now.
With the housing market the way it is, you could be doing a service to young couples and retired people who need a nice home that is affordable. Instead you are wasting time and money and making people’s lives a nightmare. I was told by my salesman and the general manager of the Indiana plant that “nothing will make you happy”, at the time I thought it was just an insult, now I know it was a prediction.
