Ok, first of all, for all of you who are reading this article and are probably facing the same problem I have ( can't find a way to complain about the way Hollister employees treat customers ). Let me start by saying that English is my second language, so I have an accent; very proud of it, I was born and raised in Cuba and have lived in USA for 11 years now ( 8 in California and 3 in San Antonio, TX ). During most of this time I have found the Hollister products (clothing) very comfortable and nice, so I have been an old fan/buyer of their items for these many years. But unfortunately I think my mind just changed and that will not happen anymore; and here is the reason why...
I visited the Hollister store located at the North Star Mall in San Antonio, TX, today October 13th, 2010 at aproximately 01:00pm. I was about to try on a couple of hoodies and asked to please be allowed to use the fitting room; yes exactly in that way: Could I please use your fitting room? then for some particular reason that I still can't figure out the "supervisor" came in and before opening the door she started checking and checking and checking and double checking the items again in all possible ways, and believe me I am not lying if I say she spent like aprox. one minute ( and that is a long time, just think about it) just looking for something that I could have probably hidden inside of the items, and all this happened just in front of me without being discreete at all or without showing the least signs of respect toward the customer. After aprox. a minute or more I felt extremely embarrassed, insulted and mistreated; so I asked her if there was any problem at all, then she replied that no, that she was just doing her job. Then I told her that if she had not noticed that she had being checking and over checking the items for more than a minute and that was very rude and insulting, then she repeated she was doing her job, I wanted to insist by telling her I found that very rude and impolite toward any customer and that she could do that in a more discreete way but she insisted "that was the policy of the company" then I asked to talk to the manager or the phone number of the customer service office, but she and the other female employee operating the register at the moment refused to give me any information at all and then kept me waiting, and waiting for about 15 minutes (she went to the stock room). After this time I talked to the other employee operating the register and asked for the name of that "supervisor" but she also refused to give it to me, in fact she refused to give me her name, the store number or the customer service number. So, I decided to buy an item in order to get the store number on the receipt ( I returned the item inmediately) just to probe them I was not stupid). Realizing I was serious on my intentions, the "supervisor" gave me a card with her name and the other employee's name and also the store number on it. At this point and did not believe her anymore and just told her again that her racist mistreatment, and lack of respect or politeness toward a customer were going to be heard somewhere else and that I was going to make sure this horrible experience would be known by as many people as possible. Because in fact what I believe happens is that due to my accent and origin (latin, hispanic) she deduced and was totally sure that I was shoplifting. I would like to add that I am 42 years old guy, was in the store with my wife and 2 year-old daughter and I am a full-time worker ( self-employed )and student ( attending San Antonio College, nursing program).
The "supervisor's name " is : Crys, and the other employee's name is: Ann ( I believe these are both fakes names). I called the number on the card they gave after waiting and waiting: District Manager: Jaymie Snider 614-2837074, left a message and have not received any response so far.
Well, I am not sure I will be able to reach someone in charge who could somehow avoid that situations like this one are repeated; but I am 100% sure that my money will not be spent in this company again. Let's show some respect toward ourselves here, since we actually are not getting any at all from this company or this particular store full of racist, rude and impolite employees. I HOPE THIS EXTREMELY SAD, UNFORTUNATE AND EMBARRASSING EXPERIENCE WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO ANYBODY ELSE. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR READING AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
FLAVIO.
