Back in 2004 I had helped Derek get his business back up and running after someone had stolen his equipment. Myself and my father had both done quite a bit to help this guy. I had started a Wedding Show in 2005 and in 2006 made Derek a partner to help with the day-to-day workings.
He was paid, not a lot of money, but he was paid $700.00 plus a free booth in the wedding show. I made no money from any of the shows. The 2006 show went off well. In 2007 I was working on other projects and had asked Derek to handle getting the wedding show business until my other project was completed. There were now 2 wedding shows to deal with.
We had received a check for $300.00 from MEN'S WAREHOUSE for our show that was to be held in Montrose, CO. Derek told me for some reason that the check had been made out to him. I asked Derek to deposit the money in his account and write me a check for the $300.00. I also asked him for a copy of the contract for the MONTROSE PAVILLION where the 2nd show was to be held. After repeated times of no-shows and excuses why he did not get me the money & a copy of the contract I called the MONTROSE PAVILLION and asked for a copy of the contract.
When I spoke to the staff there I was told that Derek said that I (Todd) had nothing to do with this show and that if I called looking for information that they were not to give any to me. They did fax me a copy of the contract. Nowhere in the contract was my name, the name of the show (Brides & Bouquets Wedding Showcase) or even the correct date.
It was supposed to be on February 24th, 2008. There was a date for September 9th of 2007. Then a Photographer (Kristina from Personal Touch Photography) called me and asked me why Derek was asking her for $300.00 CASH (he told her that was the only way she could get in the show) for the Wedding Show.
This concerned her and she called me. We spoke and then I began to see everything coming together. When I called him on it he denied any and everything that was right in front of me. I then spoke with Valerie from Men's Warehouse and she told me she was expecting to have Men's Warehouse in a show in September of this year. I had found out from the MONTROSE PAVILLION that Derek had cancelled the September show.
I called Valerie back and spoke to her about this and she has been trying to contact Derek with only one conversation happening. He says he still has a show but that remains to be seen. After calling him back and confronting him on the whole deal he basically admitted to his doings. Derek then tried to get me to pay him for the work he had done and had the gall to ask me for his booth space in my October wedding show. I told him that if he kept track of what he had done for my wedding show then I would think about it, but I didn't know how much work he had done on his show that he was plotting behind my back. (which was supposed to be my show in the first place) Derek Dause has also made false claims against other DJ Companies in town (DJ Ryan Griz, Crusin Music Machine, Monumental Events, Personal Touch Photography) in trying to turn myself and other businesses against them, making himself look like the hero or the goodguy by claiming the above mentioned were not showing up to their gigs and he was having to 'go and rescue these people' from these bad DJs.
On top of all that now he is back to doing it again under the name NEW BEGINNINGS WEDDING EXPO. DO NOT GIVE HIM ANY MONEY!!!
So in the end I will not do business with him and I am asking other businesses not to associate themselves with him. After seeing what he's done to BOOGIE DOWN I want everyone to know what an unprofessional and untrustworthy business person he is.
