L.D. Wimbs of Hometown Auction Service is at the very least incompetent and misrepresents his professional affiliations.
We hired L.D. Wimbs to sell our brother's estate at auction. He hired him because he made us believe that he had more to offer than other local auctioneers and he would keep the costs down by stating:
1. Said he was a member of the National Association of Auctioneers (NAA confirms he is not a member).
2. Said he had an operational website and that he would post our auction to his website.
3. Gave us several bad email addresses, and when questioned said that it was the cable company's fault. Gave another and it was bad...finally gave me a personal email address that worked but the mail box was full!
4. Stated he would submit ads to several publications and gave amount of exposure he could get for approximately $400. ... then changed amount of advertising, not once but twice.
5. Stated he placed ads in at least 2 publications in which he did not place the ads, then when confronted still lied about it... even when I told him I talked to the ad manager at one of the publications who told me no ad was placed
6. Missed deadline for advertising dates.
I could list more, but the point is, L. D. Wimbs not only did not perform the services he stated he would perform, then he lied about having done so. AND the fact that he said he was a member of the National Association of Auctioneers and is not a member speaks volumes.
After one month of preparing for an auction we had to cancel it one week before the auction, thereby costing our family not only an extra months rent & utilities, but valuable time and expense going back and forth 250 miles from our hometown to deal with the auction (that never took place). Additionally, it will now cost us a lot more money and time to start over...
If you value your time, energy and dont' want to lose money, DO NOT hire L.D. Wimbs or Hometown Auctions of Stockton MO to handle your estate auctions... you will live to regret it if you do!
