After you give them your credit card number to pay for your purchase, they charge a second charge for a membership
I ordered a book from this store. The price seems lower than other vendors. The reason is because after you give them your credit card number to pay for your purchase, they charge a second charge for a membership!
I did not intend to become a member of anything. I was not asked if I wished to join anything. No membership fee was disclosed to me. Beware of HotBookSale.com
Because it is a scam to charge much more than other vendors for books.

Hidden fees
I ordered a book for $1.00 and paid shipping. After that month I was billed $19.95 per month. I did not subscribe to anything, this company is a big rip off. I called and they said I can only get two months refunded and they would contact me about the rest of the months.

Spend a hundred dollars extra that I didn't know I was spending
I was able to buy books at a good price without being aware I was joining them - for $30 a month! since Visa etc only has sketchy names I thought it was late billing for a book I had miscounted...spend a hundred dollars extra that I didn't know I was spending. DONT DO IT.

Unauthorized membership fee
In the process of buying a book from hotbooksale.com, you are automatically signed up for a membership and are billed every month for. You are not told about the membership while buying the book. You have to then call to cancel the membership, but they will not give you your money back. This is a major scam. Someone please stop them.

unknown charges
Ordered a book in June and have been charged $9.95 for the last two months without my knowledge or consent, just happened to notice it on my credit card. Would like them to cancel this "membership" and refund $19.90 to my account.

Unauthorized changes
I purchased a book online at hotbooksale.com, and on the same day was charged an extra $1.00, then 7 days later was charged and extra $9.95. When I called to request a refund I was told that the $1 dollar was for processing fee on the book, which I had already paid a final price of $11.05, and the $9.95 was for a monthly membership that I agreed to for bestbrands.com, of which I had not been made aware of when I purchased the book but they said was clearly posted on their website upon checkout.
do not use these websites as they are scams. this new book was $4 cheaper than any other site selling it used. I should have realized something was not rite.
the two websites are bestbrandvalues.com and hotbooksale.com
They did end up reversing the charges but said it would show up anywhere from 1-3 billing cycles. To get around this I called my credit card company to dispute the charges and they immediaately reversed them as of the same day.

Rip off
Ordered Corel X4 book. Refused all offers to their 30 day free trial. When I reviewed my gift card account used to make the purchase, they had deducted two months of fees for a club for which I have no use. Each fee was $19.95. When I called them they cancelled future charges but would not give me credit for those they took without permission. They have a line on their order page for rejecting the offer, which I selected but was told when I called that I could not make the order without accepting the offer. Not what the web page said. Do not order from this bad practices company.

Fraud
I have a similar complaint, I bought a book for my son which came to $4.50 and was charged $19.95 per month. I had no idea that I joined any membership. I am going to start a website about this company. Anyone who is interested please email me at [email protected] |
