I recieved a letter from HFC telling me that since i had not accessed my line of credit for several months that they were going to close my account if i didn't use it by the next billing cycle, but if I wanted to keep the account open, all I had to do was simply write a check on the account. That same day i called their customer service department and told them that the only reason i had not used the accout was because i did not have any of their checks that you use to write on the account. The customer service lady said I will make a notation that you want to keep the accout open, and I will send you some of the checks you need. I told her ok and thanks. About 5 days later the checks arrived. I wrote a check for about $22oo dollars to pay off a loan with another company, and the check cleared HFC just fine. So I wrote 2 more checks on the account and they were not honored. I called and asked why ? and they told me because they did not make it in in time and because the account had not been accessed they closed the account. I then asked then why was the $2200 dollar check paid? and all I was told was "because we had to pay it". This cost me about $200 in returned Item fees and then one company debited $1700 from my account to cover one of these checks, putting me deep in the hole. Seems like a breech of contract to me and im going to sue them for the charges to my account and for the negative credit info it caused to be placed on my credit report.
