We purchased a HP Pavilion dv2000z NB PC for our son for college. During the 1year warranty my son had to send in 3 times for repair. 1st repair in October 2007 and it took 4 weeks to receive it back from repair. 2nd repair December 2007 and it took 2 weeks to receive it back from repair. 3rd repair is even worse:
HP repair center received PC on 2/25/08. Original given ship back date was 3/18/08, then was postponed to 04/01/08. my son got a call from case manager on 4/1 that it won't be ready until 4/15. I called 4/2 and talked to the case manger. He was very rude and not only didn't he apologize for the inconvenience but threatened to disconnect the call if I ever speak when he was talking. He wasn't intended to check anything and just told me to wait for the next set schedule date (4/15). I asked him to follow up on the case with the repair center and call me back on the status. He said he would only call my son because he is the user even we paid for our son's notebook. We waited until 4/15 and got another phone call to let my son know it's not ready and will be postponed to 4/29. I called again and this time got a new case manager . He told me since this is the first time he got on the case there is nothing he can do but wait for the next set date (4/29). I told him my son is in far away from home and the notebook is the only resource he can rely on to work on his school work. The case manager said most campus has computer lab that my son can use to get to a computer. If it is true than why college students bother to purchase an expensive computer for themselves when they move to campus. There is such thing as a computer lab but it is certainly not as convenient as your own notebook when you need your pc in the classroom.
Including the down time before my son had to send in his notebook for repair and the time it sits in HP repair center my son had at least 4 months that he could not use his notebook. It is seriously affecting his school work. Even worse when we called we could not get the help we needed. It seems to us that HP is trying to drag the process and knowing that as an individual consumer we can do nothing about it. We purchased HP product thinking that we are paying higher price for its name and service but it turns out to be a nightmare.
