Rip off
I personally went to the HSBC branch in bank street, Bur Dubai to make a telegraphic transfer to my father's account who is in Mauritius, as I could not use my phonebanking PIN to make the transfer over the phone as the pin issued to me was invalid, and none of the agents could explain to me why-when i phoned 8004722.
When i made the transfer of DHS 11, 000 on the 30 June 08, i went back on the 02 July 08 as i realized that the swift code i wrote on the transfer was incorrect. So i spoke to the agent to double check if the money went through and he clearly stated that it did not go through and that i would have to make a second telegraphic transfer. I clearly told him to cancel the first transaction and ensure that the money is not transferred and he assured me that the transaction was not valid. So i made a second telegraphic transfer of DHS 11, 000 with the correct swift code.
On the 03 july 08 i receive an sms stating that the telegraphic transfer is successful and DHS 11, 130 was debited from my account... which i thought was the second one i made! However, on the 05July, i received another sms stating that DHS 11, 130 has been debited again and my account is below the threshold limit. I was furious and went back to the HSBC branch. I had been charged DHS130 as the second bank charge and more money was charged by my father's bank (HSBC Mauritius) as receiving fees. When i asked them what the problem was, they could not give me a clear reason and simply told me that they would call me back in 3working days. I have asked my father's bank to reverse the transaction and i want the bank charges that have been debited the second time, to be refunded to me! This shows a lack of care and competence on behalf of the agents and i am still waiting for the call.

Lousy treatment for small businesses
This is a fair warning to all small business owners who are dealing with the HSBC Bank here in the UK or - as I suspect - worldwide.
I have recently restructured my business (dealing with the rather unstable collectables market), moving from partnership to sole trader. I've banked with the HSBC since 1991 and had my business account - which is in EXCELLENT order - since 2000.
They informed me that I would have to open a NEW account for the new sole trader company and then point blank refused to do it. Why? Well - apparently I am the very spawn of Satan ... or so it would appear... I have 2 current accounts with this bank, both having small overdrafts - one for £800 (for personal bills ) and the other for £200 general expenses. Any small business owner IN THE WORLD knows that personal finances often suffer for the smooth running of a business - especially in lean times - and for the past 18 months (during which I have been extremely ill by the way) I have exceeded my overdraft limits on several occasions.
HOWEVER - each time this has occurred I have replaced fees - often within the same 24 hour period...often with great difficulty and not a little ingenuity on my part, and the HSBC (naturally) have profitted from each indiscretion by charging me their usual over-inflated fees. (Poor HSBC - how they suffer...*ahem*)
The ridiculously ineffectual manager of my local branch informed me that I had been 'naughty' and that I was a bad credit risk! - Again I point out that all excess borrowings were paid back quickly and my business account was immaculate. She refused me a new business account and told me that in order for her to reconsider I would have to...
...brace yourselves...
GET A JOB !!!
Yes - the HSBC's solution to my continued healthy business trading was... a job. When I pressed the point that I already work all the hours the gods send she told me that yes, but that was only to make money...

yeeeeeeeeessss... Then - that if I had a job I would have a healthy income so wouldn't have to work so hard in my business ...

THIS is a MANAGER??? Granted she blatantly has the brainpower, personality and effectiveness of wet bread but DEAR GODS!!!
She went on to refer to small business owners as simply wasting time on what was, after all, an expansion of a hobby...????????? Sorry - but this is 8 years of my LIFE we're talking about here...? How patronising can these people be?
Further to this, when consulting my accountant I overheard the area business manager of the HSBC referring to my immaculately-trading-within-limits account as a joke !
So - in short - The HSBC consider small businesses to be a joke and small business owners to be wasting good wage-earning time on a mere hobby. Be warned!
Thank the powers that be that there are other banks with actual human managers WITH BRAINS, not some puppet of a corporate abuser like the HSBC.
I am currently collating as much evidence as possible on the dealings of the HSBC and their lack of assistance regarding financial development and dealing with problems. Please feel free to contact me if you have anything you wish to add to my ever growing file as I will pursue this further.

Refinancing
Do not use HSBC for mortgages or refinancing unless you love to go through hell and lose money. I have investigations ongoing from state and federal agencies along with the better business bureau into the business practices of HSBC Bank, Mortgage Division. The complaint concerns two issues:
1.) Deceptively assuring customers that loans were pre-approved to collect non-refundable application fees
2.) Performing fraudulent appraisals.
On February 5, 2008 I inquired online to HSBC Bank on the refinancing of my manufactured home. HSBC Bank is the current lender for my mortgage for over 15 months which I have had no prior issues with or had any late payments on, so I thought it was in my best interest to continue my business relationship with them. I received a call of pre-approval from Denise Olszewski of HSBC at 1-800-622-7759 ext. 6393 and she brought up my account and asked me for more personal information and brought up my credit report. At this time we locked in a rate at 5.6% and I was told that I would have to pre-pay a non-refundable application fee of $525.00. At the time she brought up my credit report, which is a credit score of 678 and said that with all of the information she had that the refinancing should go smoothly and quickly. Knowing that they manage my mortgage and have for over 15 months, I paid the $525.00 after being assured that the refinancing would be done. After several days I contacted Denise to see how the loan was progressing, and was told that HSBC does not refinance manufactured homes and that they would not able to refund the application fee of $525.00. Being that they have managed my account for over 15 months I was puzzled why they did not tell me that they could not refinance my home before they took my “non-refundable” application fee.
At this point I submitted a formal complaint and received a call from Denise’s supervisor. I explained my frustration that I was assured and pre-approved for a loan which they ultimately would not provide and that they would not refund my money. I would not have given them the application fee of $525.00 if I would have known they would not refinance my manufactured home. She told my that I had given Denise false information concerning the property type, for which I stated that not only did I not give any false information, but that they have all of my information from the current mortgage which would made it impossible to falsify my information. At this point she told me that HSBC buys mortgages in bundles and has no idea of what those mortgages are, but she would investigate.
She called the next day to inform me that HSBC would not refund my application fee of $525.00. I the told her that I could not believe that after 15 months of making thousands of dollars from me that this business relationship was going to go sour over $525.00. She then apologized and said that the $525.00 could not be refunded because it was used for an appraisal of my house. I told her that there was not an appraisal done of my house and she checked on her computer and said that one had been done. At this point I told her that I am a certified Appraiser II for the Property Tax division of the Arizona Department of Revenue and that a drive by picture of a house may justify as an appraisal in New York, but not in the State of Arizona. She then checked the computer again and said that a full appraisal had been done of my home. I told her that in order for a full appraisal to be done, the appraiser would have to enter my home and therefore I would have to be present or someone representing me would have to be there. She insisted that a full appraisal was done. I then asked her how did someone get into my house and why would HSBC perform an appraisal on a house that they would not finance. She did not know. I then asked for the name and license number of the appraiser. She said that I would have to talk with underwriter Judy Harway at 1-800-432-5632 ext. 5173, but quickly said that she was not in that day.
I have left messages with Judy Harway, but she refuses to return my calls. At this point I felt that there was some kind of fraudulent or criminal business behavior going on and I wrote in another formal complaint to HSBC stating that I was going to file a complaint to the Comptroller of the Currency, the New York Attorney General’s office, the New York division of the Better Business Bureau and the United States Justice department asking for a full investigation into the mortgage practices and possible fraudulent appraisals performed by HSBC Bank. Since issuing complaints to state and federal agencies and multiple complaints to HSBC I have heard no response from HSBC and have not had any money refunded to me at this date.
The moral of this story is stay as far away from HSBC bank as possible. They will find a way, legally or not to take your money.

Terrible service!
I am regret to inform you that I never had such a very poor Banking service in my life. No proper information, guidance or follow-up exist in this bank. I am totally unhappy with the service and I will suggest to many of my friends to never have a correspondence with HSBC bank.
Its simply a stupidity to have connection with this bank.

HSBC Bank's Illegitimate Business practices

I would like to bring to your kind notice the unethical practice and non-disclosure of imperative information by HSBC Bank to its Customers.
I pray and request you to kindly go through the issue below and suggest and/or advise me to proceed further.
I had availed a Personal Loan in September 2006 with HSBC Bank, Bangalore for
Rs. 4, 30,000/- at an interest rate of 14% Per Annum for a tenure of 60 Months.
As per HSBC Bank Bangalore the loan open date is 4th September 2006. I received the Loan Amount check from HSBC Bank on 6th September and presented it for clearing. I would like to bring to your kind notice the unethical and Illegitimate practices and non-disclosure of imperative information by HSBC Bank to its Customers.
I pray and request you to kindly go through the issue below and suggest and/or advise me to proceed further.

Upon a written instruction to the bank the check was finally processed and the Loan amount was credited to my account on 12th September 2006.
Conversely HSBC Bank started charging interest from 4th September 2006 despite me informing HSBC Bank several times through the telephone, by fax and E-Mails.
While, the application form and the Loan agreement have the correct spelling of my name I wonder how the name could have been printed wrong. Initially I thought it could be a typo or inadvertent nevertheless upon further investigation and coming across HSBC Bank’s violation of the loan agreement I suspect that HSBC Bank has deliberately committed a blunder in the instrument as they did not accept the mistake for over 1 year until the RBI Ombudsman was notified.
Besides HSBC Bank violated the Loan agreement and facility advise letter signed by me as part of the legal documentation.
Prior to disbursement of the Loan Amount I had gone through the Loan Agreement and the Facility Acceptance Advise along with the terms and conditions mentioned in it.
In the Facility Acceptance Advice, which is part of the Loan Agreement and Legal Documentation Kit, it clearly states the Date of first Installment is 01-10-2006. Also the Loan Application in the “My Requirements Section” clearly states the Date of EMI as 10th of every month.
Based on the on these stipulations I had agreed and signed the Loan Agreement and availed the Loan.
However HSBC Bank Bangalore has violated the clauses mentioned in the Legal Documentation kit including the Loan Application and the Facility Acceptance Advice which I had signed.
HSBC Bank has effected my first EMI on 16th of October 2006 instead of the 1st of October 2006 as mentioned in the Facility Acceptance Advice.
Surprisingly, HSBC Bank has included 42 days as part of the first EMI calculating interest from 4th September 2006 until 15th October 2006.
Please allow me to draw out the several violations and unethical practice of HSBC Bank.
The first violation is HSBC Bank states that the loan affected date is 16th October 2006. This term “Loan Effective Date” is nowhere mentioned neither in the loan application form nor in the Loan agreement. The ONLY date which is mentioned in the Legal Documentation kit i.e. the facility acceptance advice is Date of first Installment which is 01-10-2006.
The second corrupt business practice is HSBC Bank has charged me Rs 6927/- interest for 42 days starting from 4th September 2006. I really doubt if the Loan Amount check was dispatched by then as I received it on the 6th of September and presented it for clearing on the same day and the check was dishonored for a wrong name in it. However finally the loan amount was credited in my account only on 12th September 2006 after I had to taken some time off from my work in Bangalore, traveling to Chennai to get it resolved.
Ideally the first month installment should have been calculated from 12-09-2006 to 01-10-2006 which is 19 days as opposed to 42 days Interest.
Also I am not sure if any bank can charge 42 days of interest as EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) as a Month cannot exceed 31 days which is my understanding. If HSBC Bank was going to charge me for 42 days of Interest in the first month installment, HSBC Bank should have disclosed to me in writing or probably taken my consent before charging me 42 days interest. In which case I would have not have availed the loan.
Also I do not understand how HSBC Bank came up with a new term “Loan Effected Date” 16-10-2006. This is again an apparent violation of the Facility Acceptance Advice where it is clearly mentioned as 1st October 2006.
To confirm I asked HSBC Bank to provide me with the 42 days break up and the period, dates which HSBC Bank has not provided me till date.
Also I received several amortization schedules (Which are different from each other) Stating the EMI date as the 15th of each month. I am totally surprised when the loan application clearly states the EMI date is 10th of every month, HSBC Bank has misrepresented and changed the EMI date to 15th of every month, without any notification or confirmation from me which is again a violation of the agreement and application form.
To add to all these dishonesty HSBC Bank continues to present the EMI amount of
Rs. 10005/- to my Bank on the 10th of every month through the RBI electronic clearing.
Respected Sir(s), I approached the RBI Ombudsman Bangalore for justice. (Complaint Reference No. OBO (BG) No.5297intervene/02.12.906/MU/2006-07.)
However, the only issue that was resolved through the RBI Ombudsman was HSBC finally admitted and accepted in September 2007 that it had issued the Loan Amount check with a wrong name in it and had agreed to credit Rs.1297/-. It took more than 1 YEAR for HSBC Bank to become conscious and admit that the check had an incorrect name that too after I approached RBI Ombudsman.
Although I had called HSBC Bank on 8th September 2006 immediately after I came to know the check was dishonored due to mismatch of my name, besides I have sent several Emails and faxes to Mr. Mahesh AVP and Ms. Sudha Manager CEO’s office HSBC Bank, HSBC Bank did not react to my notification.
The rest of the above issues related to violation of Loan Application and the Legal Documentation has not been resolved or looked into with due diligence as this issue is outside of the purview of the Banking Ombudsman.

With all these experiences I find HSBC Bank ought to adopt the same fraudulent practices and dishonest way of doing business to several customers like me. I had much trust on HSBC Bank thinking it to be a reputed huge corporation however it has been clear that even a street side bank will follow all the terms and conditions mentioned in the loan agreement and take utmost care to notify its customers when there is a change or violation. Whereas when I came to know that there was a huge difference in the Loan balance and called HSBC Bank to clarify the same, HSBC Bank states that there is no violation or unethical practice nor has HSBC Bank apologized or notified me about the change in EMI dates.
Moreover there are several other pain and trouble and financial losses I had undergone due to HSBC Bank’s dishonest practices.
Sir, presently I face threat by HSBC Bank to me and my family, as me and my family has already been through much harassment through HSBC Bank. Also there have been times when I have suffered mental agony and frustration when HSBC Bank staff abuse me over the telephone with offensive language. Also I receive threat to my life from unknown people which again I suspect could be from HSBC Bank.
Presently, I have given instructions to my Bank not to honor any ECS payment to HSBC Bank until the above issues are clarified.
I humbly request you to scrutinize the above issues and violations by HSBC Bank and help me get the right justice.

Sickening behavior
I have been a HSBC Credit Card holder since April 2006 until Feb 2007.
In the bill of July 2006 for Rs 27941.22, I disputed an amount of Rs 2195, upon which I called their Customer Cell and they asked me to pay the balance and they would check out the disputed amount. After a few days the amount was proved correct and I paid up the amount, of course.
The problem started thereon. The bank charged me Late Payment Fees and other Charges on the Full amount of Rs 27941.22 instead of only the disputed amount of Rs 2195. I again called the Cust Rep and asked them to reverse the charges which they refused. I sent them a letter but to no avail. Each time I called up, I was made to hold for sometimes 30 minutes at a stretch and in the end it was the same story. I wrote another letter but still they refused to listen saying that I was supposed to pay the full amount and then ask for the clarification on the disputed amount. I repeatedly kept on telling them that their Cust Rep had not mentioned this and he just told me to pay the balance minus the disputed amount. They insisted that this was not true and I even gave them the name of the person I had spoken to but still they refused to reverse the charges.
After going through this disgusting experience I flatly refused to pay the unjust Late Payment Charges. I sent them the amount for the subsequent purchases I had made alongwith a final letter informing them that I no longer wanted to continue doing business with them and no longer be subjected to further humiliation of this sort. This was on 13th Feb 2007. The last purchase by me thru this card was on 11 Dec 2007. Upto that purchase I cleared all the dues.
Since then I am getting bills every month with amounts that have Late Payment charges upon Late Payment charges. And I am getting Abusive and Threatening calls from some people who state they are from the Bank. Two persons came to my building and buzzed on the intercom stating they were from the bank. I told them that if they have the Bank ID Card, one, only one, of them could come up and meet me. Upon this they made some excuse and went away. After that the calls have become more frequent and abusive.
I cannot tolerate this kind of sickening behavior from any business house. I hold other Credit Cards and I have had no issues with them. I am not some offender which the bank feels can be treated so disgustingly. I have disregarded their periodic letters but this kind of obnoxious behavior, I will not tolerate. I want to know what are the option open for me to end this disgusting episode.

Money transfer problems
I transfered money oman HSBC through internet banking 100 ro, i got receipt also they charged for telegraphic transfer4ro remaining 96ro they send to hsbc mumbai branch and again they deducted 16ro. Total they i lost 20 percentage money they are doing unfair and hidden charges. When i asked many times they didn't clarify any thing as per bank charges for money is not matter these people are cheating customers.

Lousy service!
My urgent transaction is pending for over a week. As advised by their customer service in hong kong, I have my letter verified and sent to them by express mail. I checked with the post office and it was delivered last Saturday. But they first told me that they couldn't find the letter and after providing the express mail number, they never called me back about the status anymore though I told them that I would be up all night for their response.
What a lousy company.
