Undue Closing Charges
I had an HSBC credit card some 3 yrs back, due lack of proper services and undue late payment charges being levied on my card i stopped using the same within 5-6 months of issue.
I would never get the credit card statement in time, neither through snail mail, email or even SMS. On top of these they would charge me late payment fees. Due to all this i stopped using the card and opted for a StanC card.
I made whatever amount was due in my card and closed the account.
Now after 3 yrs I get phone calls from HSBC's recovery dept. that some Rs. 4000+ amount is due in my card and I'll have to make this payment to avoid listing as a defaulter. I have been told that it was actually the closing amount on my card which I had not paid and is now blown into this much amount.
At the time of the issue of the card I was told that this was 'free for life' card and there would be no additional fees at all whatsoever. Even the Terms and Conditions document did not mention of any Closing amount that would be charged in case of Card Closure.
Now the recovery dept. reps are asking me make the settlement with a lesser amount but I dont understand why I should pay anything at all for a service that I am not availing
This is a total RIP OFF on HSBC's part.

Reverse of Annual/Membership fee for Credit card
Well, before I end the matter let me make you a brief familiarization of the incident when 03 years (or so) down the line one of your HSBC representative (by phone call) approached me for using HSBC Cards and ensured me that it's a free card and no annual fee would be charged for the Card by HSBC. Convinced by the promotional offer going then ( annual fee excempted) and much by the good name of HSBC I decided to keep one (and an additional Card). I was surprised to see that I was charged with Rs.2000/- for my Primary Credit Card and Rs.1000/- for the additional Credit card accountable to "Annual / Membership Fees".But, as you all must be aware of that now a days lot of Banks have come up who are offering Credit Cards without charging any annual fee. Even now, I've been using credit Cards of some renowned banks without paying any sort of annual fee. So, putting away your Cards will not matter me much (except that, I'll break the ties with your esteemed Bank).

I'm a hard working man and take every measures to save even a single penny. So, there is no point in carrying on using your credit Card at the cost of so called "Annual/Membership Fee" and hence, decided not to carry out any transaction from the Cards and close it.

It will be of immense pleasure if you can do the needful by blocking both the Card service at the earliest.

Siddhartha Gupta

CHARGES ALTHOUGH THE CARD IS CLOSED
HSBC bank has been charging the fees where as the the annual charges were free. I stopped using it, still they kept on charging me. on asking for revarsal. they said your card is blocked. and the charges have continues.

I think the poor banks does not have any other source of income.

If you ask for reply, the call center people have not ethics to talk to the customer & guide properly

Is you family safe with HSBC Collection Department Goons Around??
This complaint is regarding the HSBC collections department, Basavanagudi, Bangalore(At least, that is what they claim to be!).

I hold a Credit Card with the HSBC bank and I was unable to pay the dues for around 1.5 months as my nature of job involves extensive travelling, mostly to remote schools in the country. The incident happened yesterday while I'm still away at work at a place in Kerala, where there are no HSBC banks around. My job trip would end in 3 weeks and I would be back at Bangalore in the 2nd Week of August '09.

It all started with Mr.SANTOSH KUMAR, claiming to be the Manager of the HSBC Collections Department, Basavanagudi, Bangalore calling me up yesterday afternoon. He stated that "as it is the month end and they have to meet their target, I have no other choice but to make the payment for this month without fail".
As I was helpless, I told him that I would be able to make the payment once I'm back at Bangalore to which he said that I need to make some other alternative to make the payment. However, I could not arrange for any other alternative mode.

When I gave Mr. Santosh an option to send a person to collect the amount at Kerala, he collected the address details of the place where I was staying. And, I assumed that they would send someone. After this conversation, the calls kept coming in constantly from 4 different numbers(2 official numbers & 2 mobile numbers), one after the other till night, each of the other persons trying to persuade me to make the payment as they had changed their mind about sending a person to collect the money.

To my surprise, I received smses from their Mobile number stating " WE HAVE RECEIVED THE CONTACT DETAILS OF YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS FROM OUR SKIP TEAM. IN CASE YOU DO NOT ARRANGE FOR THE FUNDS, WE WOULD CALL YOUR FAMILY". [Is this Justified? How can a Bank get in touch with your family members? Isn't it against the RBI Directive?]

However, to my surprise, I received calls today from my parents who live in a different city & my spouse currently working in an other city stating they had received calls from people claiming to be associated with HSBC bank and that they were pressurizing them to make the payment on my behalf.

1. How did the Bank get their contact numbers? Their phone numbers are fairly new & the numbers were never mentioned in any of the bank documents? [I strongly sense my service provider leaking my recent call records to the Bank]
2. Can the Banks call the family members when you are still in touch with them?
3. How can the Banks intimidate, harass your family members?

Please suggest what should I do? I never mentioned that I would not make the payment.

Credit Predators
This company sucks. I had three HSBC credit cards for years and had a zero balance on all of them. I applied for credit with a company that had nothing to do with HSBC or any of their affiliates. Almost simultaneously, I started to receive letters from HSBC stating that they were closing my accounts due to recent credit denial. What's up with that? Did I mention that I did not owe them any money and have never missed a payment or was I ever late. It's almost like they lay in wait and pounce on you like fresh meat!

I don't know which is worse credit card companies jacking up your interest rate if you are late or them just closing your account when you are not. BUYER BEWARE!!!

FEES
This isn't really a complain. I just saw these complains about HSBC. For all we know everyone is hit hard because of the economic turmoil happening in the U.S. Apparently, now's the great time to use it as an excuse and be all out with complaints and everything related to it.

I saw these complaints about statements that are not received (which usually takes 7-10 business days). You can got to the website found at the back of the card and there you can view the statement. Don't blame the company if the statement is not received because first, it is the cardmember's obligation to check also with customer service is they have the right billing address (coz there are SO MANY cases that the company has the right address but it's the postal service's fault). There's human error in case there is a mix up with the mail. So don't get upset and blame the company right away. If you already know that you should be receiving a bill, don't wait til collections dept. call. Coz if you know what your responsibilities are, you have to be pro-active about that then. Oh and if you know so well that you'll be relocating or transferring to a different address, it is a cardmember's responsibility to call the card company and have that address changed.

If your issue is about finance charge. Don't get upset right away if it jacks up to whatever %. A common mistake is the terms and conditions about a credit card is not really read by these cardmembers. For example, they'll apply for this so-called promo card with "0% interest".. that'll be the perfect card for you if you're ALWAYS on time with the payments. Because if you miss a payment even for "ONCE", it's going to be on default. In other words, the PROMO ENDS.

Argh! so annoying..

Unethical practices!
Starting last december I received a phone call from HSBC stating I did not pay the previous bill. I explained I never received a bill that month and it slipped my mind (I never missed a prior payment). I told them I would send them payment immediately. And that's when all the late charges and bogus fee's started showing up. Shortly after those the relentless phone calls began!! I stated throwing money at them for all kinds of weird charges... finally I canceled the acct. and tried to transfer the balance which they attempted to block. However, in a round about way I was finally able to transfer the balance and get out from under their mafia...

Illicit Credit Card Bills
I was stuffed with a credit-card by HSBC and never used it. I want to know the process of canceling it without any harassment.

Charging of annual fees
I am a [classic] credit card customer of HSBC bank. The card has already expired in May 2007.

When i had bought this card in May 2005, they had assured that this is a lifetime free card there won't be any annual fees.

However last month [May 2007], i got an sms saying that there is Rs. 783.52 outstanding on my card. Since I have never used my card I suppose it is the annual fees they are charging.
