HSBC Retail Services Reviews

The Worst
I was given an original payment price of $87.13 by the store where I purchased my furniture, paid my bill one month early. I then received a bill from HSBC for $123.93 saying the original bill was supposed to be $88 instead. So, I get that taken care of supposedly, they tell me to send in my $88 a month from now on, I don't miss a payment for 6 months, but little did I know (because I do the paperless billing) I still was being charged the original 93 cents I missed that they told me they refundef my account originally. So, now I have amassed $195 in late charges. a big thanks to the Indian/Pakastani customer service rep for explaining to me in the first conversation that I had to pay the 93 cents he credited back to my account on my next bill. And to the second rep for being a jackass about it this time.

interest charges
I buy the furniture on JUNE 13 2010 under the no payment NO interest for 3 months plan. The amt for 4 items was 342.29.

Out of four items two items whose amount is $ 67.98 CDN. The delivery of these two items I received on SEPT 04 2010. i.e almost after 3 months and i pay 342.29 on SEPT 29 2010. They did not revise the invoice and make necessary change to my bill for 67.98 CDN under three month plan. And in my next invoice they charge me $ 22.55 CDN as an interest. Due to their negligence and mistake I have to pay $ 22.55 interest.

No Customer Service
During the short time that I have had my HSBC Retail credit card I have had nothing but issues with their customer service department. A simple request constantly turns into an hour long phone call where I keep getting transferred around. They aren't consistent with the stores that sell their product. The store tells me one thing and the customer service tells me another. I am cancelling my account and advising other people not to waste their time with this company. All they know how to do is say sorry instead of making a negative experience into a positive one. Thank you HSBC for waiting my time.

Unethical business practice
I had a Menards card (local home improvement company) until tonight, I just canceled it. These people are SCUM.

I had two promotions going with Menards, one due January 10, 2010 one due March 21, 2010. I had made two small charges on my card and forgot about them. When they contacted me I immediately paid the charges by our bill payer (September 2009).

In October 2009 I paid the promotion due in January in full.

Today I opened my bill and the promotions were canceled and back charges, fees and interest were added. I called them and was told that because of "the presidents" new legislation they were allowed to contact us by writing within forty-five days to offer if I didn't respond they could do this.

I have never seen any documentation that they sent me. They say it was sent.

I paid my card in full tonight and told the supervisor that they are the reason the legislation was enacted. I'm also writting to Menards.

Scam and cheating
I am currently having a problem with Boyles Distinctive Furniture (of Hickory, NC) and their credit card company HSBC Retail Services (HSBC Bank Nevada, N. A of Los Vegas).

Back in Jan-2007, I place a large furniture order with Boyles. I signed up for their 6 month, 0% plan with the lump-sum due on 16-Jul-2007.

Most of the items were delivered to me with no problems. However, when they delivered my new dining room table it was severely damaged and they took it back with them. Two months went by, they claimed they were trying to fix the table; finally they delivered a new table on 16-Jun-2007 (over 5 months after I had placed my order). I let this delay slide as I was very happy with all the furniture and the price I paid.

I mailed my payment for the lump-sum several days prior to the 16-Jul due date (the remittance address is a P.O. box in California so it would have taken one to two days for my payment to have been received).

On 7-Aug-2007, I received a bill in the mail for $1, 729.50 of "Billed Deferred Finance Charges." I called the credit card company and they said that they did not receive my payment until 20-Jul-2007 and therefore the charges were valid. They also said that "as a courtesy" they would waive 75% of these charges if I paid the balance of $432.38 within 10 days. I told them that my payment was mailed prior to the due date and that it's not fair to charge me any finance charges. I also brought up the problem I had with the dining room table. They said they "are just the credit card company" and that I should call the retailer (by the way, my credit card shows only the retailer's name on it). The date stamped on the back of my canceled check is 20-Jul-2007. I have reviewed my cardholder agreement and there is no mention of having to send payment in earlier than the due date.

So then I called Boyles and spoke to their customer service and accounting departments. They said that the finance charges were not their responsibility and that I had to work that out with their credit card company. When I brought up the problems with the dining room table (for which I had received no consideration) they said "that issue was rectified when you accepted delivery of the dining room table on 16-Jun-2007." The Boyles customer service representative was extremely rude; during most of the telephone conversation she was yelling...I told her: "Do not yell at me, lady" -- her reply was "I'm not hollerin' at ya."

I think it is only fair for the $1, 729.50 of erroneous finance charges to be reversed. Boyle should also give me some consideration for the long delay in delivering the dining room table; 50% of purchase price would be fair.

Horrible Credit Card Company
Although all payments for 3 1/2 years were on time or early with most of the payments above the minimum, one month my payment was received 1 day late. They bumped my Finance Charges to 19.99% and charged a late fee too.

I've tried to explain this was a one time error and less than 24 hrs late, but they would not reduce the finance charges down from the 19.99% despite my excellent payment record.

These crooks got me once but they won't get me again. I'm paying off the card and shredding it. I'm also sharing with every family member, coworker and friend how HSBC treats customers, especially during these economic challenged times.

HSBC - You are liars, thieves and ruthless bastards.

$50 Refund
I received my statement from the Brick indicating that I had over paid by $50.00. On the statement it indicates: "Your account has a credit balance of $50. Refunds may be requested in writing to HSBC Retail". So I sent an e-mail to [email protected]. The rep there explained that I must provide proof of this payment. Even though it was there on the statement; now watch out here comes the official answer: "Unfortunately the Brick Card statement is not considered a valid proof of payment".
So, when you receive the statement from the Brick, there could be instances where your credits may not be VALID. Here is the reps suggestion: I am to get informatioon from my bank, then cover or forge this document as my proof of payment. They will accept this type of information.

Funny how this company is willing to accept "FORGED" documents. They will not investigate through their own credit department because probably this is too much to ask for by their customer.

I have sent a complaint to BBB in Alberta via on-line. What a shame that I have to go through this to get my money back and that $50.

So watch out, the BRICK will do anything to keep your money tied up!!!

invalid charges
I called to make a payment of $900.00 through my checking account and gave the correct account number on the system. Hsbc said it was accepted and they would charged me a $15.00 processing fee. A month later I recived a bill with the payment amount added to my balance where it was never processed plus an additional $29.00 finance charge. When I called the customer service department (which sounded like they were located in another country) they said I gave the correct checking account number, however, two extra numbers were added to my account number of which I did not give them. They now charged me extra fees for their mistake. I have paid off this account with the exception of these additional fees and feel I was unjustly charged this fee of $44.06. They have now charged me an additonal $2.00 finance charge on the $44.06 which is now up to $46.06. I feel that this is a situation that they created illegally to get additional money for their use. I feel that this is a gross injustice and they prey on consumers because we have no other resources available for us to fight against these charges.

Overcharges and processing delays
Very rude and not sympathetic. Out of 8 payments 4 checks where lost in the mail. According to them if no payment is given on the due date it must be lost!!! Because I'm from Canada i need to send payment minimum 15 days ahead of time (break down... 3 day mail delivery and between 10 to 12 days processing from them). My bigest problem was the processing from the company and the ridiculous overcharge late payment fees. Ì'm very happy that I transfer my account away from them, and most of all I have a great job where I can talk to many potentionel clients to not do business with HSBC!!!

Finally, they still got all the money, but if I can prevent even 1 customer to do business there I will accomplish my goal!
