Rebate scam
Bought the HTC Touch phone on April 1st 2008, in the Virgin Mega Store (6801 Hollywood Blvd #105, Hollywood CA 90028) for a total of $270.61 (including tax), with a promised rebate of $100, that was supposed to be received after sending in a 'rebate form' that they were going to send me in the mail within 3 months. Thus getting the price down to roughly $170.

Apart from a bunch of other problems which I won't bother officially complaining about (no reception anywhere in or a 1 mile radius around my house, a broken card reader slot and AC adapter that both didn't fall under the $7 a month insurance), I obviously never received the rebate form within the promised 3 months.

I went back to the store 4 times to talk to the sales representatives that had sold me the phone to ask what was wrong, and they advised me to wait another 3 months, twice.

The 5th time I decided to go back, Sprint had parted ways with Virgin, so they were nowhere to be found. By then I had been waiting 9 months.

I then visited the next nearest Sprint store (364 South La Cienega Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA90048) who, after approximately 30 minutes waiting, could not help me and advised me to contact customer service over the phone.

The reason I had not done this yet was because of my bad experiences with customer service regarding my other complaints.

After numerous phone calls, mainly consisting of being reconnected to 'unauthorized' personnel, spending hours waiting, only to find your call being dropped eventually. Having a phone that does not work in your own house/neighborhood obviously did not help.

In September 2008 I eventually managed to get through to a 'supervisor' named 'Jay' (all the customer service personnel have neither last names nor employee numbers), he promised me to fix everything for me, I obviously felt very relieved and trusted him.

I was supposed to fax him my sales receipt together with my mailing address under attention of 'Jay' along with promotion code 05/97140 to fax number 1866 9641216 and could expect my rebate within 3 months.

I'm not in possession of a fax machine, neither do I have access to one, but 'Jay' helpfuly advised me to go to the Sprint store, because they could fax it for me.

I did that the same day, at another Sprint store location this time, naively hoping I would be able to avoid the 30 minute wait time. Needless to say I never heard from 'Jay' again.

By this time I had moved to another part of hollywood, but I made sure Sprint got notice of this, and 'Jay' was also aware of this. Also I made sure an extended USPS mail forwarding service was set up.

Another 3 months later I was back at where I once was, calling customer service for hours on end. And also contacting them through the website www.sprintrebates.com, explaining my situation. This usually led to them telling me this was an issue that needed to be resolved over the phone, providing me with the same phone number I had been calling all allong.

After a while I finally got through to another 'supervisor' named 'Nathan' through e-mail. He promised me to solve the issue, just like 'Jay' once had. I now had to send in the same stuff (receipt/address/promocode) via regular mail, and I could expect my 'status' to be updated within 3 weeks, and a rebate in the mail within 3 months. This obviously did not happen, but since our contact was through e-mail, I was able to contact him again, and he then advised me to scan all the info and send it to him in an e-mail (I had suggested this method from the very start since this is the only way to know for sure that nothing got lost in the process).

'Nathan' confirmed he had received my info and also promised and expedited process of only 3 weeks (or 15 business days as he called it). This was 02-22-2010, 3 weeks from that date would have been 03-09-2010

For a change my 'status' on www.sprintrebates.com did turn into a 'green' bar showing I should receive my check in the mail on or before 03-28-2010. Obviously nothing happened. I contacted 'Nathan' a couple of times more, we got to the point where I had to send them my address (for verification) through e-mail, and then they would cancel the original check and issue a new one. After verifying my address twice 3 days ago (I got the same e-mail twice) I haven't heard anything yet, but I strongly doubt miracles will happen. They can play this game for as long as they feel like it.

Basically I have been actively pursuing my rebate for a measly $100 for 2 years now, my contract with Sprint could have ended this month, but I figured I would wait with dropping my service until after I got the rebate. So far it has cost me approximately 40 hours of my time, not mentioning gas money/stamps/etc. I live here on a F1 Student Visa that will come to an end soon, so my time here is extremely precious (let alone expensive). By now this is obviously more a matter of principle than money, since it cost me way more than the $100 I will be getting, someday.

Always problem
I bought an HTC Touch from Darty Turkey around 1 year ago and at the first time sound system was broken and after one month I received my mobile and saw that they have changed the sound board as it was under quarantee. After changing the sound board the problem was over and everything was OK.

Second time I noticed that my mobile does not come up and again I gave it back to the company for repair.

I took more than one month to repair and I learned that HTC has changed the mainboard.

Third time I had performance problems. After opening a few programs it was giving "not enouh memory" error message and I needed to reset my mobile 2-3 times a week so that I can work with it.

I gave it back to the company for repair because of performance problems on 02.01.2009 and they informed me that I can have my repaired mobile on 16.02.2009. They told that they changed the mainboard again..!!!

As a result I bought my HTC PDA one year ago and I was not able to use it for 4 months because it was under repair.

I opened a ticket (09TRCW04TRA000031 ) to HTC Turkey as requesting a new mobile phone and do not want my mobile back. They told that they will investigate the situation but they closed the ticket without informing me..

I should say I was happy with design and usage of my mobile but the quality and result was dissapointing for me..

I have never seen such level of quality and customer support in all my life...!!!

I also thought that Darty which I bought the HTC is a big company but they are not helpful either..

AUTHENTEC DUBAI - BAD SERVICE
VERY POOR SERVICE by AUTHENTEC - HTC CARE - CELLUCOM - DUBAI, UAE

It is out of total frustration for the second time that I have decided to write.

My HTC Touch (P3450) phone developed a problem on the screen (not on the outside, but on the inside) in September 2008 while the phone was still under warranty. Despite the problem not being due to misuse, damage or any such thing I was told there will be a charge of AED 250. The problem was on the 'inside' for the touch screen developing like a bubble which disables the touch functions.

At the time, the phone was given for repairs, I was told it’ll be repaired in 3 working days and that I’ll get a call informing me if the problem can be cleared under warranty or if it is a chargeable issue. I did not receive any call for many days. When I followed-up, I was told the problem was with the bezel assembly and is not covered under warranty. There was going to be a charge of AED 250. No other explanation could be given why the bezel is not covered under warranty when there is no physical damage or misuse and the phone was within the warranty period. Again I received no call from the service centre. Only when I followed-up and called to check did they tell me the phone was repaired and ready for collection. Paid AED 250 and collected the phone.

Five months later, again the very same problem has occurred. There is an internal problem with the bezel. No damage or misuse of the phone at all, yet a problem has developed on the ‘inside’ of the bezel again. The phone was given for repairs again on 18th February 2009 with a full explanation (Several days later Service Order - C012M01927). I was told the phone will be ready after 3 working days, but will be informed if the problem is chargeable. Again absolutely no contact from anyone for over a week. When I called to enquire, I was told there will be a charge of AED 250 again for the bezel to be replaced. I requested the same to be verified as I do not understand why I have to keep paying for a manufacture defect. More days passed with absolutely no call from anyone. Only when I called did I find out that the call centres attempts to get an explanation from the service dept has not been successful. Despite promises of someone contacting me, no one has contacted me to date.

I requested to speak to a supervisor or manager to get clarification on the issue, but no one was able to escalate the problem. Apart from having to pay for manufacture faults, I have to put up with terrible customer service. From the time a call is placed, it takes anything from 8 to 17 minutes to get a person to attend the call. Many time the phone is never even answered either by the automatic system or the call centre rep.

After more days, I followed up again, this time requesting to escalate the problem to a supervisor or manager. I was told there is no such person I can be forwarded to and that I should write an email to [email protected]. I did. Got a prompt (automated) reply saying the complaint is being looked into and someone will get back to me. Few days pass ... no one contacted me. I wrote another email and waited 3 more days. Still no one calls or replies to me. Today I called up the customercare again 04-2123123 asking for a manager to speak to. They are unable to forward me to any such person. Apparently the Service centre manage Firas or his team do not have contact numbers to receive calls !!

Today is the 8th of March. I still have not heard from anyone !!

I have heard and seen many disgrunted customers at the HTC Care centre - Authentec.

HTC should seriously look at replacing their service partner.

Warranty - No Repair & No Replacement
I have being using HTC Touch Phone since 12th September 2007. I had a first complaint noted in Feb 08 about the Screen Blurring during some portion of the day and normal during the other times of the day.

I registered a online complaint to the Customer Service.. and got a reply stating to contact the nearest service Agent. I did contact your HTC Care no. 80002000078 and subsequently gave my phoneto your local approved Service Agent "i2". They registered a Service Request No. 4696 and carried out certain test on the phone and upgraded the software and returned the phone stating it is now working properly with no blurring and hanging.

But the problem kept on repeating and I did not trust the Service Agent and kept on using the phone until one day the phone started giving more troubles by hanging after every phone call. I revisited the Service Agent and gave my phone for repair under a new complaint no. now 11359 dt. 21.05.2008 Yesterday I went back to know from your approved Service Agent that the Mother Board of the phone is damaged and needs to be replaced.

They blamed me of Drop - Damaging the phone which is the cause for the Mother Board Damage. To summarise my complaint i would like to bring to your notice some important issue The Service Agent you have appointed is shelling of his repsonsibilities of repairing the Phone and trying to blame the customer for mishandling the phone. I request you to look into the above matter seriously and reply to me with a positive note.

I being a QA Engineer and having little bit of knowledge on Root Cause Analysis suggest that proper investigation needs to be done before identifying and eliminating the problem. My initial research on the phone says that as the Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) works on Microprocessor it emits heat and when it is being kept in the pouch as provided by the manufacturer. There is no way the heat can be dissipated. I believe you shall look into it.

Thanks & With Best Wishes Your Disappointed Customer Imran Iqbal

Malfunction
My HTC touch just stopped working. It hangs while trying to access sms, I could not pick up calls and practically could not use the phone. All this only around 6 months after the launch.

I gave my HTC touch for repair at the authorised dealer –Cellucom in Dubai on 1st March 2008. I still have not got my phone back The phone gave up on me at a very crucial stage which caused enough and more agonies which I won’t get in to now.

When I went to the vendor with the problem, the manner in which they raised their hand and put me to the repair dealer was surprising since they acted as if they got nothing to do with it after the sale.
I gave my phone for repair and didn’t hear back from Cellucom for almost 10 days and I followed up with a call. I was told it is not ready. After a day or so I got a call from Cellucom saying it is ready for collection. I went there and to my surprise I was told it is not ready yet, and that I will be contacted when it is ready. Again no news and I called after almost a week. I was told that it is ready. I rechecked if that is the case and narrated the earlier incidence of false alarm. The agent said they will check and call me back. Till now I have not heard from them. I was told the delays happen if the fault is major. I have lost all hope and confidence in the product and now even if I get the phone back after repair I wont be confident using it.

I requested a refund of my money. The cost at the time of purchase, was AED 2299, the vendor was Jumbo Electronics- UAE . HTC HQ assured there will be a solution soon. This was a month back and till date there is no news from them either
