Hudson Valley Roofing / TPO Roof Reviews

RFreier March 10, 2011
Poor Quality/Ingore Warranty
Got 3 quotes and theirs was the middle one. Paid over $14, 000 for a new roof with some deck replacement. Owner was not on job site until end. One roofer fell through our cathedral ceiling and damaged a keyboard. They reduced price for the damage by $2k which was appropriate. However, they did not supply what was promised, installed what was promised wrong and used poor construction techniques. They omitted insulation between decking and TPO product even though it was on the quote and was paid for. They installed the drip edge backwards on inclines (gap open to draining water), they left a gap on the high side of chimney in the roof where water just runs down chimney, nail heads weren't fully pounded down onto decking and TPO product was laid over top. There are hard bumps in places where it appears the didn't repair the decking properly. They installed the drip edge over top of the TPO product instead of under it so snow rips the drip edge off the roof as it slides off of the roof. They concealed the seam and drip edge installation errors by covering them up with seam tape. So they weren't visible until after a hard winter and snow ripped the seam tape and drip edge off of the roof exposing the many errors.

I had a signed receipt from the company (Randy Munoz) that said he was giving a 30 year warranty on materials and workmanship. However he ignores calls for fixing the roof and will not respond. When I asked him to fix the problems he said that he thought the roof was fine and if I had a problem with it to sue him as this was my only option. A warranty isn't worth anything if they won't honor it. It appears as if the company is out of business, but Randy told me that this is a family business for over 20 years. If this is so, I can't see them staying in business with these kinds of tactics. I've known a construction company or two that would stay in business for a few years and when legal actions piled up they just declared bankruptcy and opened up again under a new name.

By the way, he showed up at the door when we issued him the job and requested a $5, 000 deposit check to be issued in his personal name. I wonder if that got reported as income to the IRS? The remaining payments were to the company name. My only option is to sue, but that's not good either. Do I take a chance that I can get results and spend thousands of dollars or just cut my losses and try to fix his errors on my own. What a shame, I've been taken and I did most everything right. Got multiple quotes, got references, even went on the roof to inspect the final job. I should have monitored the work more closely, I would have caught the mistakes hidden under the seam tape and perhaps would have found that gap by the chimney before they were done and gone. I learned a lot, the hard way and paid dearly for it. Don't trust this guy nor any company he represents.
