Sorry Internet service
I've had Hughesnet since August 2008. I was told it was lightning fast. What a joke!! I can't tell any difference in theirs or dial-up. When I called to complain, I was told that satellite is not as fast as Comcast. Not what I was told when I was signing up. Also told me if I cancelled after so many days, a large charge. Was never told I had a thirty day guarantee and could change my mind. Of course, Hurricane Ike struck here just around my 30 day time and was without power for 9 days. When I called to tell them I wanted out and I should get credit for the days I was without was told, too bad. Contract sticks. I sit here every night pulling my hair out because this internet is so slow it makes me sick. Almost $100 a month for nothing. To cancel, $800.00. Tonight, every website I try to get in to it tells me webpage unavailable. These are websites I work in, not play time. It's important that I acccess to do my work. My next step is to write to the FCC, BBB and credit bureau regarding the false advertisement and to get out of this garbage. Any other ideas?

FRAUD
HUGHESNET commercials all over TV promising GREAT SERVICE, FASTER E-MAILS and BETTER THAN DIAL UP. Its all a farce and you are being warned right now. Initially it seems like you done the right thing even with the outrageous price and the 2 YEAR CONTRACT. Yes once you realize what a rip off you are stuck with a 70 to 100 $ bill for 2 years. Here's what happened to make you mad to no end and I mean NO END. If you are like me you like to watch youtube video's or browse myspace for new bands. After about 10 video's or 10 songs you lose service for 24 hours. They call it FAP ( Fair Access Policy) and for 20$ MORE a month they will do away with it. If its the slightest bit cloudy, rain or snow your service slows down actually slower than dial up.That has nothing to do with FAP. I have wrote to two OHIO senators and the Attorney General and still nothing has happened to force them to own up to their advertizing which is clearly false. I'm telling you all now if you are thinkig of hughesnet you better wipe that thought from your mind. It will keep you mad and on the phone to INDIA daily. Keep your dial up until they run new lines in your area and they are going to because the old lines are going out and becoming useless. So unless you can live with 60 minutes of internet service a day for 70 to 100 a month go ahead and waiste your money and time. Download 10 pictures and you are done for 24 hours. Don't think for a second that you will be downling any movies it just won't happen. Hughesnet is crap and proof of that is all over this message board. If this is not enough google it. HUGHESNET FRAUD.

Poor Service/Questionable Ethics
For about 8 months, I have noticed that my Hughes internet connection has worked great in the AM, but come afternoon and evening, I can hardly even do basic navigation of the Internet. Because of this bad performance, my small business has lost $10, 000+ of revenue, due to missed deadlines on contracts.
On June 12, I made an interesting discovery...
At 4:00 PM (Hughes Network's Time, according to the timestamp on my modem), my internet is throttled down to 85kbps download/26kbps upload. Keep in mind that I am subscribed to the professional plan (1000kbps/200kbps). This poor speed is consistent until EXACTLY midnight (Hughes Network's Time), when, all of a sudden, my speed is restored to 960kbps/196kbps. This is true, even if my amount of data downloaded that day is far from the FAP threshold of 375MB.
Essentially, I am being held subject to Hughes' FAP policy, even if I have not used my threshold. Because of this questionable action, I have lost a lot of money from my business, had my car repossessed and my home is nearly in foreclosure (due to all of the lost business).
Hughes is the only option I have in this area for internet, as I do not have a land line (too expensive in my area).
I am considering entering a lawsuit against Hughes, as I have fallen victim to them. For your safety and sanity, stear clear of them!!!
