Until recently I bought Huletts Sugalite which is a product that replaces sugar in baking for those of us who cannot use sugar. I found it to be a wonderful product especially for my father who is very sensitive to any kind of sugar.
It used to come in a 85 gram packet selling for R11.99. Recently, however the packaging was changed to 170 gram packets but the price shot up to R43.99!? How is this possible: double the product but 4 times the price???
I phoned the Customer Care line and was informed that the pricing is correct and it is so much higher because when the packaging was changed the price of their raw materials suddenly increased dramatically. This seems awfully suspicious - imagine the coincidence that the raw materials cost rose just as the packaging was changed.
I think that Huletts is just trying to cash in on people who needs healthier products! Could it really be that expensive to make this product as opposed to cane sugar? The health conscious consumer is again taken for a ride. If this is the way Huletts feel about their customers' health I will not support their products anymore!
