PREMATURE BREAKDOWN OF ENGINE
To,

SUB: PREMATURE BREAKDOWN OF SANTRO-XING CAR ENGINE
Sir,
1. I regret to submit the following to your kind attention:
2. I had purchased a Hyundai Santro Xing car on 02 Nov 09 from M/s. Orion Motors Pvt. Ltd., 7th KM Store, Opp. B.B.M.B., Delhi Road, Hisar – 125 005 (Haryana) and the details of my car are here under :-
Registration No. : HR 17 85 65
Chassis No. : MALAA 51 HR9M472553K
Engine No. : G4HG9M880208
Month & Year of Mfg. : Oct 2009
3. The first servicing was carried out on 20 Nov 09 at M/s. Orion Motors Pvt. Ltd., Hisar (Hyundai’s authorised service centre) at scheduled interval. The performance of the car was absolutely satisfactory, until early May and had done 8, 200 kms, when I started experiencing inadequate pick up and intermittent cut out of Air conditioning unit. The very next day the defect was referred to M/s. Hyundai Goa Motors Pvt. Ltd., Verna, Goa, since I am presently posted here. The car was handed over to the service center on 11 May 10, for the above mentioned defect and second servicing. On 12 May 10 the service engineer telephonically informed that the defect was attributable to the worn out piston rings and the rectification would entail replacement of piston rings and major repairs to the engine.
4. Engine being the sturdiest and the most reliable equipment in a car can not give up or develop such snags at such an early phase of cars life (6 months/ 8, 200 kms). The requirement to undertake major repairs of this order on engine in such a short span is a clear indication of premature material failure/ lapses in quality assurance coverage during production of the engine.
5. For a middle class Indian, buying a car is a choice made for lifetime for which he not only invests his savings but also his emotions. The extent of repairs being undertaken to restore the condition of engine at this stage is very unfortunate and has shaken the faith I had in the product quality of your reputed and prestigious company. Major repairs/ replacement of the parts of a new engine at this point of time would affect the engine’s performance/ efficiency greatly and would call for such repairs in future also when the same may not be covered by warranty.
6. Considering, the above mentioned facts, I would request Hyundai Motors to investigate the matter and act favorably to replace the malfunctioning engine with a brand new engine at an early date, which is covered under warranty and oblige.

Alternator Breakdown
I bought my Santro 2 years back and it is in third year of its running. Though the ride has always been comfortable, there 's a huge concern that I have with my car.
Concern : Issue with Alternator
What happens : The car stops charging battery due to faulty Alternator and comes to a halt.
How Often : This has happened thrice (or probably four times) in 2.5 years of buying the car.
It happened first time in first year of operation, second in second year and third at start of third year
Impact: I was stranded at 10PM on a road where I had no support
Car ceased while travelling during one of very big family functions causing me embarassment
Car ceased while I had gone for an exam to far off place.
Car gave problems in ignition while I was out of station(in chandigarh) for a meeting and marriage
This could be manufacturing defect or Improper repairs. I have lost my faith in my car although I have always been getting it properly serviced on time which can be checked from Samara Hyundai workshop's inventory. With such an uncertainity, how can one plan any travel on car.
I have been talking to workshop people at Samara and they have been repairing it all the time. It does cost me a lot of time when i have to give my car for repairs for half a day.
Although I have just written to Hyundai a week ago, but they seem to be not email savvy...No Response as sucb till date..!!

Poor service!
Hyundai Santro Xing suddenly giving me noise from the engine level. Upon showing the problem into the hyundai workstation , technician told that the crankshft has defect. I am shocked that just in 3 year from the date of purchase the cranshaft has defect. I purchased Santro Xing in July 2004. It has only 18000 km running till date. I had regular service done and also good petrol used. Now the repairs cost me around 25 K. They say the repair will be very expensive and can return the car only after another 7 days.
I read about a similar complaint about a Santro purchased in November 2004;
Hyundai spares are made of very very poor quality.

Horrible after sales service
I would like to inform you that i purchased a new santro xing-xo from your borah hyundai showroom situated in tinsukia (assam). I was very glad to be a owner of the new santro zing, but after the first servicing of my car i was very disappointed. It really made me feel that i have done a big mistake by purchasing a hyundai car, for i didn't got the after sale service from you. I thought that your after sale service would be much better than that of maruti or atleast not below that, but i was very much surprised that ur service was not upto my satisfaction. I would rank it as 0.5 out of 10. I purchased a new santro xing from ur tinsukia showroom on 19-04-2007. Just after 45 days i gave it for 1st servicing.
On arriving at your outlet i had to wait their far an hour or more to get a job card. Then i had to tell them if i had any problem. I sighted them 2-3 problems. To my great surprise they checked only the things that i complained and nothing else. After 15 min, they said that your car is ok and you can take your car after 15 min which they i think required for washing.
Well, to me my car was handed over in a very dirty condition after my first servicing fully covered with dust. The internal cleanliness was also very dirty. It seems that the company don't have a vacuum cleaner in their dealership situated at tinsukia (assam).
