Idearc Media Reviews

No customer service
Idearc Media overcharged me so I had to call the customer service number. I was on hold for over one hour listening to a message that says how important my business is to them! Don't use Idearc Media as they will screw up your bill over and over again and then you cannot reach them when you have any problems.

I have never experienced such a pathetic company with such crappy customer service. APPARENTLY MY BUSINESS IS NOT IMPORTANT TO THEM AS THEY WON'T EVEN ANSWER THE PHONE!

Unauthorized charges
My company also received a bill last year and again today from this company, for pay per click advertising, but for only $20. I have not requested, nor received, any pay per click advertising. The logo on the bill shows 'Idearc Media Corp. The Official Publisher of Verizon Print Directories'. It also states that the top 'Billing for Verizon Yellow Pages Directories, Superpages.com and Solutions products.'

Last year, I contacted Idearc Media Corp. and they sent me an e-mail stating that the billing was an error and credited my account. This year, the bill shows a previous balance of $0.00, so apparently they did credit my account.

The problem is that I received another bill and again will have to spend time to correct the situation. I'm sure that they will correct the situation without any problems, but in the future, I will no longer spent the time to correct the situation.

By the way, I do not have to prove that I did not request the service. They have to prove that I did. Additionally, they would also have to prove that I received the advertising, which they would not be able to prove. Fortunately for me, I am an experienced litigation attorney. If I have to spend time litigating a $20 bill, I will be looking for substantial damages. I suspect that they sent out a lot of bills for $20 and most companies will either pay the bill without realizing that it was not due or will not want to bother to spend the time to dispute a bill for $20.

fraudulent practices
This company is the worst. They contacted our dental office and spoke to a clerk about including the dentist's name and number in their yellow pages. After one year we canceled but they said it was automatically renewed, based upon the fine print in the 12 pages of forms they sent over after the fact. Also, they claimed it was too late because the book had already "gone to print"! We did not pay, claiming they could not automatically renew without the Dr's consent or knowledge. We are now fighting the collection agency, who claims we are responsible for an entire extra year's worth of the yellowpage name and number. This is not only fraudulent, deceptive and illegal. We intend to fight it in court.

Ripping me as well as others
I thought I was one of a few that have been railroaded by Idearc Media but did a Google Search and its amazing. My story was my rep (who will not return my calls) told me that I could cancel anytime...just call him. Well I tried the 1st month and after 3 months have been contacted by various sales reps wanting to know how I like their company and my services. I explained that I would like to talk to to my rep and that I am not happy with their company while it continues to ignor what I am saying. I talked to come lady (Jessica) and she just basically told me I was going to pay the company no matter what. I called back a few days later and got a very nice lady and I explained everything again and she said she would file some kind of report on my issue. I explained that since they tell you before you talk with anyone (in a recording) that the call will be monitored or recorded for company purposes...Well pull mine up, you'll hear what the rep told me. She filed the report (she says) and said it would take about 11 days. Well, its been 30 plus days and now I got a bill yesterday for another month and today I got a call from some company Idearc hires to collect. Guess I'll spend another better part of the afternoon trying to get this matter straightened out. I wonder if the Public Service Commission (found in the front of a phone book) can handle a matter like this and the other thousands. They seem to handle the phone companies when the phone company won't do whats right.

automatic renewal
I have a small company with no employees I had been advertizing with verizon for 7 years and our fees for our ad was added onto our phone bill. about 2 years ago Idearc took over and started billing separately. 2 months before the end of our 2007 term was up (Feb) I contacted Idearc to tell them I no longer wished to advertise with them. they told me that it was too late to cancel and I would have to pay regardless. I asked how they could do this and Idearc told me they have the right to renew our ad and charge however much they want for it without getting approval. I have never signed anything with them to this effect. they also said that they got a 3rd party verification speaking with someone at my company with authorization. They faxed me over a 1 page form with my husbands name on it with no SS# or ID# just a name. well, my husband doesn't even work at my business! I think it is all B.S! I also told them I wished to cancel for the 2009 advertising since they would be automatically renewing my ad, and they said they couldn't cancel and I would have to call back in October to cancel for the 2009 issue because they wouldn't let me cancel until After October of 2008 (10 months later)
I don't know how Idearc can get away with this. It seems like they are doing it a lot to people. Has anyone complained to the B.B.B. or any other government agency about this?

Should be Illegal
I have been calling, writing on my bill, and compaining for 18 months. Well ever since they took over the Verizon Yellow Book. Everytime I call they can't cancel until next year. So last year I paid them $1000 thinking it was cancelled for this year. Today, I receive a bill. Not only is it not cancelled they raisesd the monthly payment to $84.25. When I called and told them they have no consent and have never had my consent they say I'm enrolled in an auto renewal program. My question there is who enrolled me in the cause I never consented to that either. They are praying on people who don't want there credit ruined by collections people and just pay the bill so they don't have to mess with them. In hopes that when this issue is over and the next comes out it will all be over. They say they send out a letter and if you don't respond than you are automatically enrolled for the next year. Well, I own my business and I open all the mail. It's not a big place. I never got anything from them except bills. I even had one lady hang up on me when I asked to talk to her supervisor another guy says there supervisors only handle administrative duties and won't take my call. Are you kidding? There has to be something illegal about this. They passed a law against phone companies slamming customers to get them to changes serivce. This is slamming as far as I am concerned only they don't even record you verifying your address they just got your info and never stop charging you. Slamming is illegal and this should be too!

Advertising
This company screwed up my yellow page ad the past two years. First they put my home address in the ad and then lied about it when I questioned them about it. They said that they got it directly from Verizon and that I asked for that change. Who in their right mind would list their home address in an ad when their business is a mobile service?

This year after working with my sales rep (and his manager) for two months to get the ad right (after I threatened to cancel the ad because of the previous year screw up), going back and forth via e-mail, fax and phone calls and finally getting the ad the way I wanted it, guess what happened- THEY DON'T EVEN RUN THE AD!

They cost me business last year because of mad customers showing up at my home and finding no one home (I'm out conducting my mobile business); and, they will be costing me business again this coming year because they didn't even bother to run my ad in their book.

I also advertise with the AT&T yellow pages in my area and they get the ad right every year so I've been increasing the ad each year, I benefit so they benefit. Their sales reps make you feel like they truly care about your advertising needs whereas Verizon could care less.

Believe me, this is my last year with Verizon and their advertising arm, Idearc Media, and I am going to cancel the three phone lines I have with them and go with AT&T. In my small way, going to cost them some business like they have done to me. Don't know what is wrong with Verizon but they need to get rid of Idearc Media or continue to lose customers.

Rip off company
I signed up for advertising with Yellow pages (IDEARC MEDIA) in 2007. Dissatisfied with the results, I decided not to renew my contract for 2008. The rep had said I would be receiving about 30 calls a week. I had received none. Then, I received bills for 2008 advertising. I attempted to contact IDEARC several times to no avail. I finally talked to a costumer relations person who said that he would have a supervisor return my call. I never received a return phone call. Then, I emailed IDEARC, and received a reply email indicating that this was the first time I contacted them regarding this issue! I sent letters and have received no response. Finally, I talked to another representative who informed me that I signed a contract in 2007 stating that IDEARC can renew my contract any year at their discretion without confirming with me! I was outraged. Then, to top matters off... IDEARC sent me to collections for not paying!

This is a total rip-off. They do not care about consumer satisfaction! Do not give them business because you will be sacrificing more than you think!

Horrible customer service and outlandish, unconscionable billing practice.

Scam charges
I am an owner of a small business with 1 employee. While I was out of town Idearc Media called and told my employee that we would receive 3 months free listing. We did not get the free listing, but instead received a bill for $1, 295.64. They also promised that from this listing we would get enough business to cover the cost of this expense. We didn't receive any customers and I want them to stop harassing me about paying this bill. I have reported them to the BBB and turned them into the Attorney Generals of the states of Texas and Michigan. We are now getting phone calls constantly about paying this bill. Has anyone had any luck in getting these people off your back, if so what action did you take?
