Automatic renewal
DO NOT advertise in Verizon Super Pages!!!
You will think that the deal is done, but "no" it's not! The next year you will receive a bill. Yes, in the five page contract it clearly states that it is your responsibility to send written correspondences during a certain time period (located on a different page) to make any changes to your ad or to cancel your contract. Your sales rep will neglect to inform you of this. I called to complain about the situation three times. First call they hung up on me making me call again and go through the hour long menu choices. Second call I was told there were no supervisors, they had all gone home for the day. I asked when they were going to be available and was told the hours Idearc Media was open, Well, I was calling during those hours, hmmm. The rude man clued me in that the supervisors don't all stay all day! Well, what are their hours I asked... Ma'am I have already told you our hours. And then I was asked if I understood and he hung up on me! Sooo, I called again and asked for a supervisor, the lady said she was a supervisor and asked how she could help. Well, what a surprise, as I was told there were no supervisors! I once again explained how we did not want the ad we were being charged for. She once again told me that it was our responsibility and that there was nothing that could be done. Well I fully disagree! Everyday I am sending them every complaint I can find, a written cancellation, and a phone call asking for a reversal of charges.! Large companies should not be able to take advantage of small businesses. It is time to fight back. Please write in your complaints if you have also been taken advantage of with this horrible company. I would also wage a war of complaints and phone calls to them. Let's fight back!

Refuse to cancel
After 2 weeks of trying to get someone to call us back we sent certified mail to cancel our account. Finally someone called back to say that we can't cancel because the book has already gone out. We were informed that we were on an automatic renewal and it was too late to change and that we owe a year. This was done without our knowledge or consent.
After reading the other complaints, seems like this is IDEARC practice.

Abuse by Idearc
This company is the WORST. They refuse to cancel our account, saying that it is "too late" that their poor phone book has gone to press. It is always too late - they simply refuse to cancel.
Then they get abusive on the phone, use strong arm tactics.
My wife tried to get them to agree to a lower amount, and they come back and say that she can have 2 ads for MORE per month.
It makes one wonder about the brain capacity of these people.
Whatever you do DO NOT DO BUSINESS with IDEARC MEDIA>

Failed to preform
Idearc took my money for an ad in one of their publications then the publication folded. No refund, no results, no response to my complaints. Idearc took my order for Yellow Pages Advertising. They failed to get my number in the White Pages or on 411 information after promising to do so.
Glad to see the other complaints. Next I will send a letter cancelling my advertising so it doesn't renew.

Advertising
Sometime in 2006, Idearc took over the yellow pages for Verizon. I was notified by phone regarding putting an ad in the yellow pages again. I called back and left a message that I wanted to renew the same ad. I never heard from them, so I thought It was all set. I received a bill stating that as of then,
I owed nothing. The new book came out and my ad
wasn't in it. I called them and they said I owed $450 for 2006. I knew nothing about it because I got a statement that said I owed nothing. I should
have gotten a courtesy call bringing this to my attention. I have advertised with Verizon for 10 years and always paid my bill. They said they are
still part of verizon. If they were, they should have my records and know what kind of customer I was.
I kept getting a bill and then a collection agency called me. The lady was very sympathetic with me.
She mentioned to me that several others businesses
had called with the same complaints. We reached a
settlement in which I got about $60 off the bill. It doesn't sound like much, but it was at least something since Idearc cost me thousands of dollars
in business. This year came along and Idearc contacted me to run an ad in the yellow pages again. Well, we all know that we need the yellow pages for advertising so I explained what had happened and said I would like to try again. Do you know that they wouldn't let me put my ad in until I
paid that lousy $60 back to them. I paid them. To
make this really long story short, they put my ad in
with a web page that belongs to someone else. There goes thousands more. I have a transportation
co. With gas prices the way they are, I don't need somone else getting my business. This is the first time I've ever had a web page. This company is a joke and before long with all the mistakes they've made, they'll declare bankcrupcy and take a lot of other businesses down with them.
I would appreciate any help or advice you could give me.
Sincerely,
Sherry Hawkins

Direct solutions mail drop advertising
Idearc Media Direct Mail Postcard Advertising Drops. I was sold a 30, 000 piece ad drop for my business on their postcards. Sent to homes where income above 100k and home value $700k. One of first questions I asked salesman was "how many companies of my trade and how many cards per package in drop." He promised me 2-3 companies and about 3 dozen cards per drop. I was shocked to see when I got the sample packet, there were in fact 6 paint companies out of 33 cards, that is a one fifth ratio of one trade or specialty business in the drop.
After receiving only two phone calls, I got one small job under $1000.00 and other call was never returned by person who left it for me. So basically it is costing me $1200.00 per call. This as cost is $200.00 month or $2400.00 total for drop. I have since contacted four of the other paint contractors in my drop. They have gotten between 0-2 calls each also. Have contacted Idearc, they offered me Verizon phone book space which I politely declined. Will attempt to resolve in small claims court here, and am contacting class action lawsuit lawyers after seeing the many complaints on this site for Idearc Media & Verizon.
Any comments welcomed and appreciated.

Idearc incompetency reigns supreme
Our company moved to new offices over 2 years ago, which unfortunately required we switch from ATT to Verizon. We anguished over getting a new phone number for our business, switching providers would not allow us to move the number, but Verizon got us a good one. We maintained our old ATT listing and set it up as a forwarding number for continuity, planning to jettison it after six months or so. We went public with our new number in our web site, business cards and letterhead, email signatures, and all other listings. We contacted all the web database companies (InfoUSA, etc.) to ensure that they had our new number as well. So far so good.
The problem started when Verizon (Idearc), who gave us our new number, published our old ATT number in their own directory- right next to our paid, bold listing with the correct number! For two years now this has caused confusion with some of our clients and has cost us unnecessarily, since we have felt forced to maintain our old number with forwarding. ATT got it right, by the way.
This problem was then compounded by the fact that some of those web listings are actually driven by what they find in phone listings- lo and behold, our old number begins creeping back out and we find ourselves having to constantly check various web listings and database companies regularly to be sure they are not suckered in to Idearc's mis-information.
Long story I know, but here's the kicker- Idearc says they get their information from other phone carriers and database companies, and can't be held responsible if the information is not correct. Per one Verizon yellow pages rep I spoke to, they do not verify this data. Can you imagine any other venue where a company can publish incorrect information about another one, but is not responsible? By the way, we still have to pay for the bold listing. Nothing like having to pay to have our business hurt.
Since Idearc can't seem to correct their database after repeated conversations with our rep, we have taken the bold move of canceling the forwarding number. We have canceled our on-line advertising program with Idearc, as well as our bold listings, until the old number flushes out of the system. Once they prove they can list us without mis-representing, we may consider re-upping.
I'll comment on their terrible web directory listing services separately. Word of warning- Idearc does not have their act together, at least in the Dallas area. Proceed with great caution on all fronts, if you must.

Scam advertising
Idearc media is claiming i owe them thousands of dollars for advertising i never asked for. The rep from the company that sat down with me and assured me my add would cost $250 a month no longer works there and they charged me $1200 a month. Now they claim my credit will be destroyed if i don't pay them for the add i didn't ask for.

can't cancel ad
Be aware once you sign up any advertising with Idearc Media, it will automatically renew without your authorization. You won’t have a chance to cancel your ad.
My ad expire in Janunary this year. There was no sales rep calling me to discuss if I want to change or continuing the ad on the Verizon directory. However, the Idearc Media automatic renew the ad for me for another year. In March 18 and March 24 this year, I have try to contact any one who will cancel my ad. I got transfer on the line for at least 10 differnent persons for almost 2 hours. The phone number were 800-491-9701, 800-446-4783, 800-555-4833, 909-390-5000 and 909-390-2070. Finally I got to the person who is supposed to be in charged of my account : Scott Bower. I told him that after spending on the phone for 2 hours I want to cancel my account totally, but no one will help me. He said he will take care of it. I thought I would have peace of mind.
A week later, on 4/24/08, I got a call from collection for unpaid bill with Idearc Media, for the month of Februray, March and April. I thought this would have been taking care by Mr. Scott Bower in the previous week. So I got on the phone with Idearc Media, and of course I need to spend another 2 hours got transfer back and forth to different department. Finally, I got someone finally seem helpful. Her name is Lisa Caster at extension 4866, she said on the record, “the published book is cancel, but customer had request to continue on the on-line advertisting” Howver, I have never authorize for such an ad. I finally realized I am invoved in a scam and a rip off.
I feel so angry, I go online and type in keyword: Idearc Media complaint. Wow, the information is overwhelming. And of course, I am going to post my story.
How can a very well known ('can you hear me now?') company like Verizon allow Idearc Media to operate to the ruin of their good name?

Idearc Media lie to get a sale!
Idearc Media rep called to tell me they he started selling postcards. ie Valpak and it was a deal. He asked if he could he stop by the deadline was in a few days. He told me it was $333.00 for a one time mail out. While the rep was here another rep stopped in who ALSO sells postcards. They discussed prices with each other and I listened. I asked One Time? ONLY $333.00 the rep repeated the same time Yep! I deal one time. The other rep said my price is $526.00. Sorry I can't beat that price. I signed the contract that didn't have a start date or end date. I had to initial by the monthly because I was only buying one month but you could buy more if it works. He would stop back...
Well, I get the second month bill and I can't reach the sales rep for more than a month. I call customer service they take my information and say they will get back to me. I write to the BBB to get this fixed. It is 6 months later- Customer Service said they have a contract and intend to make me pay $4, 000.00 for the one time ad. They don't care I have a witness.
So now I have called the local news station so that I can get a story written about how they lie just to make the sale.
