Never use this dishonest, shameful rip-off artist!

Contractor ascertained that my Trane furnace blower motor simply needed to be replaced - a smple install - but had NO idea of part number or cost. I informed him that I was greatly concerned of cost as I was unemployed and requested he buy on the internet, if cheaper. He said he would. For 5 minutes of work he charged me almost $100 that he said would be a deposit.

After several days, I had to call to request status, but he hadn't gotten around to it yet. (Nice when winter's approaching.) After calling back, he said it was a specific Trane part that cost $450 and not available online, nor were there any other options. I reiterated that I was greatly concerned about cost, and he repeated I had no other options. After several more days, he installed the part and charged me a whopping $$610 for the part and LESS THAN ONE HOUR of work with NO CREDIT FOR MY DEPOSIT. When I asked him about the credit, he stammered and then said it was buried in the charges. He then pressed me for payment and then left.

After he left I took the old part out of the garbage, found out that it wasn't a Trane brand part, but rather a Fasco motor readily available on-line for only $188. That and an hour of labor should have cost me only $270. Even with 2 hours of labor it would have cost only $352. Yet he charged me twice that, or a total of $700. When I disputed the charges, including his failed promises and his lies that the part was a Trane brand that only he could buy, I stopped payment on the check to amicably resolve the matter. He refused to discuss the matter and put a mechanics lien on my house - preventing me from refinancing. Despite his poor service, numerous misrepresentations and outrageous overcharging ripoff, I was forced to paid in full with this strong-arm tactics. However, the jerk still hasn't removed the lien after over 4 months.

Stay away from the phone book and find a personally referenced reputable heating and cooling contractor.
